Transformation: Alchemy and "The Pearl of Great Price"

By Jeri Noble

There are many terms for the "Pearl of Great Price" in Alchemy as well as ways of attaining it. As with many concepts in this ancient art, it tends to work best when approached from the viewpoint of mind over matter.

"The Pearl of Great Price" is supposed to be that magical catalyst for manifestation; that which will "turn lead into gold". Although shrouded in mystery in medieval times, when the ordinary person was illiterate and uninformed, today the only mystery is how to wrap our brains around this particular concept.

Attainment of this "pearl" requires tremendous purification of the soul, an ability to allow the putrification of old energies and the patience to allow the transmutation of the Self. These are 3 of the defined steps to attainment of this miracle:

Purification

Putrification

Transmutation

It all seems very esoteric doesn't it? There are modern day concepts, rituals and practices which easily translate to the same procedures, although I would never presume to imply that the activity is easy.

In today's terminology, what is this Pearl? Simplistically speaking, it is that part of our heart, our psyche, which is imbued with the essence of the Divine. Knowing what it is however, is not quite enough to effect manifestation. Many spiritually inclined people have plugged into this and still live lives of poverty and despair.

To allow that putrification that the ancients spoke of, means to accept and forgive our guilts, resentments and negative judgements of ourselves and others. We have to be willing to experience these things (our dark side) and fully embrace them as part of the Divine Essence. This is amazingly difficult even for a tolerant person because we aren't playing at being "bad" or "nasty" like a small child, but instead are honestly trying to understand how all of the parts can add up to a Divine whole.

The Transmutation is an automatic process which occurs when the putrification has gone it's course. All the ugliness has been consciously absorbed and absolved, creating a purity of being which is clear and honest. Then it's just a matter of time and often, repetition. Purification and putrification until the transmutation takes place. When it does occur, the individual becomes fully aware of their connectedness to the Divine and is then capable of beginning to accept the gift. The acceptance is a whole process unto itself.

Regarding the concepts of transmutation in the full metal alchemist, is it true that it goes that way transmuting things like magic? Creating transmutation circles? Could it be possible that transmuting some objects could really exist?

Yes, Alchemy is very real. Full Metal Alchemist is a fiction Anime, but a lot of things that are in the show are very real. The Philosophers Stone actually isn't red like people think it is. It is actually white or clear. Science has come a long way so transmutations are now possible. People have said that they have succeeded in completing a human transmutation, but they have no real proof of this. Alchemy is really just a form of early chemistry, and it is a practice that is very deep and is very hard to understand. I am currently studying Alchemy, although I do not know everything, I do know quite a bit.

Nicholas Flamel is a alchemist. He died in 1417. When people dug his tomb, they found nothing. People say he still lives because he found the secret to immortality. It's a myth and legend. Read the book "The Alchemist" if you want to read about him.

I strongly believe that "magic" like in FMA is possible, because the theory of equivalent exchange sounds really possible "magic" like this also needs an amount of energy. This would be hard to do with just some circles. Once a scientist called Nikola Tesla got a theory that all electricity could be stored in the ground and used all over the globe. He almost succeeded with his experiment but it all came to an end when he was financial ruined. His secrets went with him to the grave. He managed to make an earthquake so powerful it broke windows in a 14 Km range. He made it somehow, he succeeded powering up the earth surface anyway. I want to learn alchemy if its possible.

Alchemy is real. Alchemy is the knowledge of the world around you and being able to change the world around you to your design. Transmutation circles are used as a medium to be able to use the vast amounts of energy needed for any sort of alchemy. Don't get this confused with Full metal Alchemist parts of what are said on there are true and parts are purely fiction being able to create artificial life through a failed human transmutation is false, but being able to affect the materials around you and changing them to your design is not just possible it is basic alchemy. I know a lot about alchemy, and I openly use it and study it and there are only three ways anyone can learn alchemy. First find a master of alchemy and make a deal for him to take you as his apprentice. Second search for alchemy books but not any alchemy books true alchemy books. Some books you will find will be nothing but a load of rubbish and are not worth the paper they are printed on. Third, though this may be the least desirable, most people will say this way isn't possible, but there are people out there devoted to alchemy so much so that they have made it almost like a religion to them. I know of only a few which are truly driven by alchemy. It is the fastest way to learn about it.

I am a baby at this, and I can only say it is interesting. Therefore, it is for me and others to learn all they can about alchemy. I started reading about this a year ago, so it pleases me to keep learning, plus get to know more about the true meaning of alchemy. Because everything is possible, I give it my all to be wise, in all my endeavors. Of course one has to be true to him or herself, and the Divine, I believe this is so in every case. Again, I am very interested in this subject.

I can tell you all that alchemy truly exist. It is not a myth. If you saw full metal alchemist and you think you can start alchemy so easily you are wrong. Alchemy can only be performed by great knowledge but that is not all. You must have the will of Chi. Only by that can you convert your Chi into a transmutation circle and perform alchemy. I haven't tried it yet, but I have much knowledge about alchemy. I think I have the will of Chi. So, I think i can do it. But still if you want to use alchemy in every day life you must obey the rules, because if you get into some trouble and want to run away from it using alchemy it sometimes can fail. If you make even a smallest mistake, your alchemy will not happen. Of course there is an another way, you can learn to transmute without a circle but you must be very careful because then you must create a circle in your mind and all the components you need. If you forget something alchemy will not be completed. Alchemy is very dangerous so don't try it if you just want to do it for fun.

Yes, alchemy is real, believe it or not. I have preformed basic alchemy. The thing is, I'm just learning myself. You have to find the element that calls you most, Water, Fire, Earth, or Air, mine just happened to be water. I for example, changed the temp. of water.

Alchemy is the study of transferring energy from one molecule to another it is an un-advanced method of chemistry if you truly can perform alchemy you then understand the flow of energy from one object to another and with that understanding you can alter that flow and all you need is just a little understanding and you will be able to perform alchemy.

Its funny all you people have seen FMA. It's not like on the show. It's the process of understanding what something is on a compound level and then rearranging its molecular structure to make what you want. For example, making lead into gold theatrically it can be done but how would you separate all of its components and then recombine them into something else? Well people have been trying to do it for years. How come nobody has found a way? Alchemy is about understanding something and knowing what it has and then being able to change it to suit yourself. I don't think transmutation circles are possible but if you succeed then let me know.

Yes alchemy is real. Alchemy is the understanding and manipulation of nature. Alchemy isn't something you can just learn; it's really an understanding of your divine power and how to unlock it. It's more spiritual then it is a science. You first must even out all seven of your Chakras, once they are stable then you are at your highest divine plain. There you can manipulate nature.

Transmutation is a spiritual process that refers to first, putrifactio (putrification), second, purgatorio (expurgation), third, purifactio (purification), and finally, regeneratio (regeneration). The ancient alchemists hid their true purpose, spiritual transmutation, in a web of illusions and cover stories concerning the transmutation of base metals into gold.

Alchemy is true, the Illuminati use it everywhere to focus people masses only on the physical reality using hexagrams. They use forms and circles within ritual to summon demon or angel which is invisible to us because life is energy and we are in this world to live the opposite of what we truly are. Just soul like us living in a different universe where energy state and emotion are different depending on this energy of the quantum field of the universe your in. Mastering and your energy center chakras and anti-chakra is totally required to perform this art. Because emotions are senses that can conduct the energy vibrations. So felling a particular material can let you know of its energy. Caution is needed though and this takes total focus and great intuition also to do so. A good basic understanding of the 10 basic dimension and the 11 dimension cord theory and the quantum physic will make your mind logical understanding the phenomenon of power and alchemy. And you must think and understand you are able to do so and you are unlimited for with each barrier break comes a new possibility. Because we live in a universe with energy duality(+,-) you must always surpass a force that is going the exact opposite of your will, this is why these things are so tough in this universe. Caution, fear is the best way to failure. Eliminate all fear before a dangerous experiment or not dangerous. If you try to summon a demon and have just 1% of fear you may think yourself an orange for the rest of your life. Try a non dangerous technique if your sensing you are unprepared and not understanding the totality of the technique at any level. The only use of fear in energy is to hide your energy so with fear you are lowering your power. Get will, not fear. You must basically understand the subatomic vibration going trough all electron neutron and proton trough quark design and type, thus modifying all energy quantum field for the elemental structure, the molecular structure, and the macroscopic structure. If you want to evolve your soul through to the next universe use this knowledge with good and love and consciousness, not with ego and personal power reaching goal.

Naturally, you cant perform an transmutation with a transmutation circle. Like what you see in the Anime. But, its true you can be an alchemist with just practice and patience, and about the immortality, I don't know if that's possible. I have read many books about alchemy before and studied, and I found out that creating the "Philosopher's Stone" is possible and due to research some alchemists in Egypt a long time ago finally finished this stone. The "Philosopher's Stone" or "The Great Elixir," was said to give everlasting life to those who possess it, however there is no proof that giving immortality of this stone can be true. But no one knows unless you experiment with it yourself. And now about the transmutation of lead and other form of base metal into gold is quite true for those who believe. Alchemy is not performed through magic or anything else but as it says, it is the origin of today's chemistry so alchemy is a type of chemistry that focuses on spiritual and physical properties. Other information: read the book "The Alchemist Handbook" by Frater Albertus and "John Reid IIIs course on practical alchemy" found at Adam McLeans website. It might help you on what you want to achieve. Don't focus yourself on making the Philosophers Stone and obtain immortality.

Fire, Water, Earth & Air cannot be elements. That's an old myth, but it's not really true. An element is a thing, one certain substance that can't be broken down or split up. It just stays there. It is, that is the basic idea of an element. Air is made of tons of different things, like hydrogen, oxygen, or nitrogen. Earth is made of various minerals, and water is H2O. When fundamental elements combine, they create a compound, like wood or whatever. Sometimes, the combos react, like exploding, going on fire, liquefying, or giving off gases. That's a chemical reaction, and it's part of chemistry, and chemistry is the followup to alchemy. In fact, the guy who pointed out that air, water, fire, and earth are not elements was the same guy who came up with using the word chemistry. So, the truth is, alchemy was pretty flawed. It brought some big contributions to science, but not without a price. Alchemists didn't use a correct scientific process- data, hypothesis, and all that. Instead, they predicted what the outcome would be, and if they turned out wrong, they would change the experiment to fit their prediction. They also believed that fatal elements, like sulfur or mercury, could make a person immortal, and fed the elements to kings and emperors. Needless to say, things didn't turn out so well. Alchemy, of course, is a form of science best left unforgotten, but seriously, your not going to get far if you try becoming an Air alchemist and replicating original strategies. I mean, you might end up dead, but you know. Just study some chemistry before you get started on alchemy, and make sure whatever results from your mixes and transmutation is not capable of killing you or rendering you blind or whatever. Follow the scientific process, do your research, and whatever you do, do not test anything on yourself. Some of the alchemists I mentioned before sampled the mercury or sulfur before handing it to the emperors to eat. It didn't go so well for them either.

I am a 16 year old kid. This sounds strange but for a long time I always felt there was a world beyond this one. I was always interested in alchemy ever since I was like seven, and I always thought that many of the things that people thought of as myths like transmutation circles were possible. Alchemy is actually nothing like in FMA. It is a scientific field that is based on mixing Earth and Heaven; or, to be more literal, science and astrology. Transmutation has been achieved, but not by magic. The most famous case is the Alchemist who Transmuted ordinary metal into gold. There is also natural transmutation, such as graphite turning into crystal, coal into diamond, and the changing of the leaves colors. It is a very complicated and precise science, not some magic quick-fix. However, Circles are used in Alchemy, and the basic rules do apply: To gain you must give up something of equal value.

Alchemy is known as divine chemistry. It is changing yourself to a higher state, so that one can make a physical representation of that illuminated state other wise known as the philosophers stone. After the creation of the stone, the pentacle of the alchemical art, you can begin to transmute other objects as well. This is truly just a simplicity once you understand how the innermost mechanics of the hermetic arts work but only few people understand it. Imagine if everyone in the world had a infinite amount of gold. Gold to some alchemists is physical light, and it would lose value, and begin to be taken for granted. Money would be worthless and people would hardly understand what the point of alchemy was in the first place. It was meant to awaken the spirit and soul and recombine it to your matter, salt, mercury, sulphur. The matter being the body of the subject. People need to understand that consuming the stone is a spiritual act of awakening and empowering your potential for your own Christ form.

Alchemy as you perceive it does not exist. It is possible to turn an element into another but the amount of energies needed only exist in stars and nuclear fission or fusion environments. The process involves striping away protons from the nucleus of the atom. If you want to become an alchemist, take up nuclear physics. No one has yet devised a process that allows profitable element transmutation.

First thing, I do not require anyone to believe my words. Just experiment and arrive at your own conclusions. I've read the comments, and for those interested in Alchemy, I'll give you the most basic definition on the subject. Alchemy is the art of transmutation. Transforming anything you wish, from a low grade, to a superior level. Transmutation is performed on any aspect of life, spiritual, physical, mental or psychological, etheric, social, etc. So, this art is not just transforming base metals into gold. Secondly, there is a Philosopher's Stone on the physical plane, as also a powder of projection, and an elixir of long life, and an universal panacea. Thirdly, transmutation circles are possible. They are a map which is a scientific-alchemical formula. If you wish to start your studies on Alchemy, you can do so with any Alchemy book you wish to. But here I give my advice for starting on this science, for the basis of Alchemy, one needs to study at least chemistry, physics, and biology, for starters. For the studies in transmutation circles study about chakras, and the diverse energies this can be extremely helpful. Also one must train one's intention, imagination, thought, and will and there are many books on these subjects. Also many theories and laws of occultism. It sounds scary but it isn't. These are just basic things that I think you should study, remember this is just my advice. Studying alchemical texts is also a basic exercise, and extremely helpful. These can be found throughout the net. Alchemy is real. Alchemy is science. Transmutations circles are real. I've preformed them. But of course, I do not require anyone to believe me. Just experiment, and arrive at your own conclusions. I hope I've helped just a little bit.

Everyone who is curious, well alchemy isn't some kind of magic like FMA or what you have in your imagination. Alchemy is old chemistry which involved spiritual means. So don't expect alchemy to be like magic. It is actually an understanding of nature and of all your surroundings. Alchemy is real but alchemy is different from those chemistry classes at your school, but alchemy involves purifying your body mind and soul to make it work. So, it's kinda complicated.

I am an alchemist in training. I have been studying all about it as I can But most people don't think its real. All of you non believers when the world is in world war chaos alchemy in the end will save you all. When we lose all of our plants and trees we will use alchemy to make plants appear when the world is near its end the alchemist will take a stand and show them its very real.

Has anyone ever doubted alchemy? You say you can do it, and I believe you, some say you learn, but I have to ask you why, for personal gain, for immortality? If a higher power wanted us to be immortal, they would have made us immortal. I believe, alchemy exists, but I find it hard to believe that one can produce an elixir to cheat death, one would have to drastically alter or stop the multiplication of cells within our body. Alchemy, is not the solution to everything. But eventually, it all comes down to whether you truly believe that alchemy is real or not, because when you have that belief, you can have power over yourself. In light of what I have said, I am interested in Alchemy, and if anyone could help me in my thirst for knowledge, I would much appreciate it. An art such as this does not deserve to be forgotten, and it is up to us to succeed where others have failed. We are the new, and the responsibility falls upon us to teach others, that is why I request help in this quest for knowledge, because the more minds that work together on the same goal, the more hope we have on achieving the knowledge we seek. One day, we will find out if our search has been worth it, and the more people who join, the faster that day comes. And if alchemy does truly exist, and we can perform transmutations, then we can prove all others wrong, all those who doubted alchemy.

As we know alchemy is the science of understanding so deeper you try to understand it the mystical it will become. According to me alchemy makes use of some type of fusion energy, it fuses the human internal energy and natural energy in order to produce that much amt.of energy which will destroy something and again recreate the same thing but in a different manner. It is the alchemist who decides which form the matter will take and here the circles comes to existence. They direct the energy change and its flow to control the matter formation.

I would just like to say to all the people that have asked about transmutation circles, all of you have to understand that the circles apply differently to each user. You yourself have to understand the many planes that we as beings operate and exist in as well as what other beings operate in. Alchemy is a as dangerous as it is amazing so do your calculation before you attempted, so when it comes to T. circles please practice caution and remember that symbolism plays a vital role as well as your own understanding of the planes and fabrication of all materials. And something I've learned, always destroy your circle when finished, never divulge your own secrets because other people and things can and will replicate them and use them against you. That's all, best of luck to all of you in your quest for the greater understanding and reconstruction of yourself as beings.

First of all, how do some of these people perceive alchemy in Full Metal Alchemist as magic? It is taking what you have at hand, and using that, no more, to create a "new" result without exceeding the limit of what you can use. In the anime, it is as much of a science as it is in the real world. Second of all, from my research, I always come to a halt at the point of actually deconstructing an object and reconstructing it into something new. Even if I know it's complete composition, I do not know how to start this "reaction."
