The Housewives Tarot: A Domestic Divination Kit with Deck and Instruction Book
The Housewives Tarot by Paul Kepple and Judy Buffman is possibly one of the most fun tarot decks around. Depicted in 1950's retro meanings, the housewives deck sports such major arcana as Duncan Hines chocolate cake for "The Devil" and a wood paneled station wagon for "The Chariot." Judgment is depicted as bathroom scales. The entire divination kit comes boxed in a retro recipe box, which has actual recipes in the dividers.
Rumor has it that the housewives tarot was originally developed by housewife Marlene Louise as far back as the 1950's, when housewives wouldn't think of using tarot decks or any other form of divination or that's what they'd have you believe. Writer/illustrators Paul Kepple and Judy Buffman currently own and operate Graphic Design studios "Headcase Design" out of Philadelphia. The Housewives Tarot is their first attempt at writing, and it looks as though they've cornered the market on fun tarot decks. This one would make an excellent gift for the tarot reader on your list who is also a domestic goddess.
Not to be considered a mere novelty, the Housewives Tarot has been reviewed as surprisingly accurate, proving once again that it is important not to take yourself too seriously. (The Magician is depicted as a Slick-Haired salesman.) If that wasn't enough to send you running out to buy this deck, here are some other depictions we found to be both hilarious yet relevant; Death is rancid mayonnaise and a host of other things one would find in the back of the fridge. The Hermit is a woman soaking in a bathtub, and the Knight of Pentacles is mowing the lawn. Cheesy? Not if you already have an understanding of how tarot cards work, and certainly not if you have a sense of humor.
If you are a serious tarot reader, you probably already have your own deck that you use for divination, but this deck makes an excellent addition for any collection.
