Spiritualism and Clairvoyance for Beginners: The Journey Within and Beyond – Part 1 of 3

Elizabeth Owens has the insight one would expect is necessary to write a book entitled “Spiritualism and Clairvoyance for Beginners: Simple Techniques to Develop Your Psychic Abilities.” A certified medium and ordained Spiritualist minister, Owens is not only a teacher and board of trustees member of the Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp in Florida, but she is also the author of “Discover Your Spiritual Life” and “How to Communicate with Spirits.”

Owens views psychic abilities as a natural gift for some and a talent that can be cultivated by others. She feels that an individual that who is dedicated to developing their clairvoyance skills will reap numerous additional benefits. For example a keen awareness that can lead to less confusion in daily life; Or the ability to make decisions that are more “accurate,” as people become co-creators of their own existence. She feels one can also lead a more peaceful existence and have a healthier and happier life because the development of intuition gives us greater creative potential.

In this book, Owens starts our journey on the psychic path with a glance over our shoulder into the history of the Spiritualism Movement. As children have such fresh connections to the Other Side and are more likely to have mystical and spiritual experiences than many adults are, it should come as no surprise that it was youngsters who “indirectly introduced the United States to clairvoyance and all things that are psychic.” It was the 1848 “spirit raps” initiated by sisters Catherine Fox, age twelve, and Margaretta Fox, age fourteen, in their Hydesville, New York home that led to the religion of Modern Spiritualism. According to Owens, “we haven’t been the same since.”

Owens also shares her psychic background, as well as those of six other prominent Spiritualist mediums including: Rev. Arlene Sikora, Rev. Dr. Warren Hoover, Rev. Diane Davis, Rev. Phoebe Rose Bergin, Rev. Jim Watson. All of these people work at the Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp, and also included is Carol Roberts, a medium in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

You may ask yourself just what is clairvoyance? Elizabeth Owens covers it all, from the French derivation of “clear seeing” to the official “Encyclopedia of Psychic Science” definition of “a supernormal mode of perception, which results in a visual image being presented to the conscious mind. The perception may be of objects or forms distant in space, or in time, past or future.”

It is also interesting the “sixth sense” or “third eye” reference pertaining to the pineal gland (situated an inch or so above our eyes) in the center in our head. This gland contains germanium crystals, the same compound that is used in electronic devices today. These amazing crystals respond to electrical vibrations, such as those emitted by a spirit entity/personality or a psychic vibration.
