Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home By Rupert Sheldrake

Have you ever had a pet who intuitively knew when you or someone else was coming home?

Perhaps a dog that waited in anticipation at the window for your loved one’s unexpected arrival?

In his latest book Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home, Rupert Sheldrake relates and investigates hundreds of such accounts of pets who know about events to come.

Rupert sheldrake PictureWith an extensive scientific background coupled with a love and affinity for animals since his childhood Sheldrake sets out to bridge the gap between what traditional science says about animals and what experienced pet owners and animal lovers know. He does this well in this informative, inspiring book.

Sheldrake’s Impressive Educational and Scientific Background for this Research

Rupert Sheldrake’s natural love of animals led him to study natural sciences at Cambridge University, philosophy at Harvard University, and finally received his PhD. In biochemistry back at Cambridge.

After studying the sciences extensively Sheldrake found a huge gap between how science viewed animal’s abilities (as soulless creatures) and how pet owners thought of their beloved animals.

He found that there is a taboo in the scientific world about even the possibility of animals being more than just mindless creatures possibly stemming from the defenses a person who works with animals in their dissection so common in most scientific research.

Sheldrake investigates scientifically in Dogs That Know Their Owners Are Coming Home by three means:

  1. Interviews with people experienced in dealing with animals such as veterinarians, dog trainers, people with guide dogs, zookeepers, kennel proprietors, etc.
  2. Formal surveys in Great Britain and the United States.
  3. Explorations of beliefs through experimental investigations.

Investigation of ESP in Animals

He investigates three phenomena associated with animals; telepathy, sense of directions (as with homing pigeons,) and premonitions. Discussed in his books are remarkable accounts documenting each of these phenomena with dogs, cats, horses, and birds.

Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home is easy to read and organized in a logical way that provides a background and brief history on the domestication of animals.

This lays the ground for the rest of the book into the investigation of the uncanny ESP of animals.

I found Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home to be interesting, engaging, and even hard to put down.

Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home BookcoverThis book flows smoothly explaining certain “scientific” concepts so a lay person can not only understand but gains interest in the subject.

In this book Sheldrake backs up what many pet owners have known (many without realizing it) about their pets for years; they are tuned into their ‘psychic’ powers in a way we humans have let slip away. This book will open the door for further research and contemplation of these extraordinary phenomena and remove the taboo of believing in the soul of animals.

I don’t need to be convinced that there is more to dogs than we realize. I feel that my dog has psychic abilities. I was wondering do dogs dream? My dog is super sensitive. Is there any research about ESP in animals? It is so interesting, but it doesn’t surprise me. Thanks for emailing me this information.
