The Masters of Fuzzy Logic
The Mercury-Neptune conjunction is a fascinating aspect because we're never sure what is true and what is a smokescreen or evasive story-telling. Those who decipher the political tea leaves have enjoyed an unusually long bout of this Mercury-Neptune vibration (January 22 to February 2) since fact-oriented Mercury turned retrograde on January 29 while only two degrees from conjoining nebulous Neptune.
The change of perspective associated with Mercury turning retrograde was energized by Mars turning direct on the same day. As forecast in January's Top Five astro-events (see #5), these simultaneous planetary stations coincided with presidential candidates dropping out of the race, as John Edwards and Rudy Giuliani both called it quits. Meanwhile, the previously acrimonious debates between Hillary and Obama suddenly turned sweet and nice (that's a smokescreen).
Corporate America was spinning last week when Microsoft announced a hostile takeover of Yahoo during these twin stations. In what would be the largest technology buy-out in history, Microsoft abandoned its pleasant chit-chatting with Yahoo in order to compete with the search-engine gorilla named Google. While Microsoft sees the deal completing within a year, Mercury retrograde conjunct Neptune tells us that it probably won't happen, that the deal is based on fuzzy logic.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy (January 28, 1955; 10:00 pm; Paris) was born with Mercury trine Neptune, so he's naturally attuned to this current Mercury-Neptune atmosphere. His control over French political developments has been on hold recently due to his romantic fling with Italian heiress Carla Bruni. They married last Saturday as transiting Mercury (retrograde) and Neptune were exactly conjunct. What was he thinking?
Osama bin Laden on the Radar
Last week Abu Laith al-Libi, a top Al Qaeda lieutenant, was assassinated when a missile from a CIA-predator drone struck his "safe house". The attack was only the latest U.S. incursion into the murky frontier area between Pakistan and Afghanistan where Osama bin Laden is most likely hiding. American strategists are becoming increasingly frustrated by Musharraf's resistance* to tracking down and killing bin Laden.
The 2008 planetary alignment that astrologers are most interested in is the Saturn-Uranus opposition at 19º Virgo/Pisces, which becomes exact on November 4, election day. Coincidentally, this powerful dynamic is also aligned with Osama bin Laden's Sun at 19º Pisces (March 10, 1957; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; time unknown). We can therefore expect that around election time, he will be in the news in a big way.
Bin Laden's strict religious idealism can be seen in his Mercury-Venus conjunction in faith-oriented Pisces square Saturn in moralistic Sagittarius. In 2008, his progressed Sun forms a very favorable sextile to his Mercury-Venus, showing how he finds a sense of stability through friends and like-minded zealots. Also in 2008, his progressed Mars is squaring Jupiter, which describes an awakening adventurism, a call to action.
From these measurements, it's natural to conclude that he will release some ominous tape which triggers an outpouring of violence, or sponsor a terrorist act to upset the American elections. Since the transiting Saturn-Uranus opposition also hits the U.S. Mars, we can expect an increased American military involvement in and around Waziristan, with the possibility of bin Laden being assassinated just before the November election.

However, during her Saturn Return, she gave up the glamorous world of modeling to pursue song-writing and singing.
Her Venus-Neptune squares Mars in Aquarius, giving her an ardent nature that readily gets involved in romantic triangles and other sexual intrigues. Factor in her eccentric Sun-square-Uranus, and we can see why she says "I'm monogamous from time to time, but prefer polygamy and polyandry." Perhaps she will enjoy the limelight for a few years before moving on under the pressure of transiting Uranus opposite natal Uranus.
