The Middle East Mandate Horoscope
Last week's Middle East peace conference in Annapolis, Maryland was held under the auspices of the Jupiter-Pluto conjunction, which facilitated the inclusion of the core issues, notably, the status of Jerusalem. Such rare geopolitical events, ie., ones that involve the entire Middle East, beg the question, is there a foundational horoscope that tells us what's happening in this region?
Astrologer Michael Baigent cites the Middle East Mandate* chart (April 25, 1920; 11:22 am; San Remo, Italy), which gave the French and British the power to divide the former Ottoman Empire into a hodgepodge of nation-states. This chart features Cancer Rising, with the ruling planet, the Moon, found in imperial Leo. The Moon squares Mars on one hand, and the Sun in Taurus on the other.
This T-square involving militant Mars (MC ruler) and the luminaries reflects the region's inherent violence and disagreement over the established borders. Mars by secondary progression describes very accurately the outbreak of major wars in the Middle East. For example, the pivotal Six-Day War (which began on June 5, 1967) took place as progressed Mars was exactly squaring the Ascendant (orb 0º02'). The U.S. invaded Iraq in 2003 as progressed Mars squared the Moon (orb 0º04').
Currently, progressed Mars is at 4º40 Scorpio, where it forms a precise trine to Uranus. This fortuitous alignment brings the prospect of doing something about the security situation on the ground. However, progressed Mars is only 0º01' from an exact opposition to the Sun, suggesting that a major showdown or confrontation is on the horizon. The most likely source is Iran, the only Arab nation not attending the conference.
Hillary Clinton's Day Disrupted
Although no one was hurt, a man who claimed to have a bomb walked into a Clinton Campaign office last Thursday and took three hostages for hours before surrendering to police. Ms. Clinton, campaigning in Virginia, flew back to New Hampshire, where she told reporters that he went to her office "because he thought he might get some kind of relief from his own pain and suffering."
The potentially devastating incident has many astrological markers in Hillary's horoscope (October 26, 1947; 8:00 am; Chicago), including the adrenaline-rushing transit of Jupiter opposite Uranus (orb 0º00'). Also, transiting Uranus was forming a quincunx to her Mars-Pluto conjunction (orb 0º03' to Pluto), which is a highly volatile and dangerous mix.
Pluto is the ruler of her 12th house, and as she reaches national prominence, this house's meaning will begin to include America's disenfranchised, lost, isolated, and crazed. Hillary has a tendency to want to save these individuals, as shown by her Pisces Moon. She undoubtedly feels their pain and identifies with them at some level, since she has her Sun, Chiron and Venus located in the 12th house.
Chiron in particular is familiar with a kind of psychological pain when in the 12th house, perhaps most readily identified as a disconnection from spirit. Now that transiting Chiron is in her third house of mental attitude, the pain that so abruptly intruded into her life is mental instability, neurosis, insanity. Her statement reveals how much she understands and empathizes with the perpetrator, which is further shown by transiting Ceres in an exact opposition to Chiron (orb 0º00').
DWTS Update: Helio Castroneves Wins One, Loses One
Brazilian race-car driver Helio Castoneves won the coveted mirrorball trophy last week on the Dancing with the Stars finale, scoring a perfect 30 in his last dance with partner Julianne Hough. Hours after that fast-paced quickstep – which ended with a four-second kiss – Helio's fiancee decided to call off their engagement, putting an exclamation point on an already bizarre Season 5.
In the October 8 edition of NewsScope, I predicted that Helio (May 10, 1975) and Julianne would be the most likely couple to win, though after looking at the DWTS horoscope** (NewsScope - November 12), I changed my mind and went with Jennie Garth. Still, Helio's Jupiter at 12º Aries is closely conjunct the DWTS Moon (13º Aries), so he would have been a good guess.
For that matter, so would semi-finalist Mel B (born just after Helio on May 29, 1975), since her Jupiter (15º Aries) is also conjunct the DWTS Moon. The Jupiter influence was recognized by the viewing public as their unbridled enthusiasm, which both Mel and Helio demonstrated with flair and style. What turned me away from these two finalists was their Saturns' squares to the DWTS Moon, an aspect which works against their popularity.
As it turned out, Helio's Saturn did play out as the broken engagement. His natal Jupiter-Saturn square manifested as good luck and bad luck simultaneously, or win one, lose one. The DWTS horoscope (June 1, 2005; 5:00 pm; Los Angeles) features a T-square between Venus, Mars and Pluto, a dynamic guaranteed to inspire romantic triangles. Plus, Juno, the marriage asteroid, squares Saturn, another major challenge to any celebrity's marriage or real-life partnership.
