Top Five Astro-Events for December
1. The New Moon in Sagittarius takes place on December 9, and features the Jupiter-Pluto conjunction at the Midheaven over Washington D.C. and New York City. Look for the wealthiest plutocrats to be making news, as they shape politics, business, and the publishing world with their considerable influence. Expect major mergers and acquisitions.
2. Jupiter and Pluto are conjunct on December 11, but this combination is in effect all month. For many, Jupiter-Pluto brings an enhanced interest in the Big Picture and a feeling of faith, trust, and spiritual growth, while others go overboard with self-righteousness and smugness. Those with planets connected to this pairing may experience phenomenal personal growth.
3. Jupiter enters Capricorn on the 18th, marking the beginning of a new age of social conservatism centered on national and economic security. The 19th and 20th feature a Sun-Mercury-Pluto triple conjunction, inspiring power plays by authority figures as they overcome vulnerable opponents. Expect big moves, important transitions, and major geopolitical events, especially in business and politics.
4. The Full Moon (December 23) occurs as Mars opposes the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter from the 22nd through 26th. The strong Mars vibration over these five days can make some people edgy, moody, and hyper-defensive, while the more adventurous will enjoy plenty of playful competitiveness. Attack politics may make the holidays seem like a war zone.
5. Mars opposes Pluto on January 2, but this astro-event is so powerful that it will be in effect for the last ten days of December. Expect major transportation snarls, and for many, an internalized sense of rage. Sports events will likely be intensely competitive, and bring an unusual number of severe injuries. Violence in global hotspots is likely.
Superstar Lexan and the Toxic BPA
A recent study conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that nearly every American carries Bisphenol-A (known as BPA) in their bodies at dangerously high levels. The most dangerous risk is to children, but because of the ubiquitous presence of BPA in polycarbonate plastics*, many communities are considering banning the toxic chemical, which is a known carcinogen and endocrine disruptor.
The widespread use of BPA can be traced to a manufacturing agreement* between GE and Bayer on February 4, 1956 (Pittsburgh, PA; time unknown). The Sun in systems-oriented Aquarius forms a close sextile to Mars, giving the new plastic – called Lexan in the U.S. – a jump start on a wide range of popular products. A Jupiter-Pluto conjunction aligned with the royal star Regulus describes Lexan as a superstar substance.
The Lexan horoscope features Chiron in Aquarius (near the Sun), and not until the Chiron Return 50 years after this manufacturing pact did the wounding side of this product become evident. San Francisco was the first U.S. jurisdiction to ban BPA from children's toys and baby bottles on June 16, 2006. At the time, transiting Mars and Saturn were conjunct each other and opposite the Lexan Chiron.
However, several lawsuits – backed by a coalition of chemical and toy manufacturers – successfully halted the BPA ban. Transiting Pluto was forming a trine to the Lexan Jupiter-Pluto conjunction, preserving the uninterrupted flow of the superstar plastic. Currently, the Canadian government is considering a similar ban, but Pluto remains in a close trine aspect to the Lexan Jupiter-Pluto, likely preventing any meaningful legislation.
Brad Pitt's "State of Play"
Last Wednesday, Brad Pitt dropped out of the film "State of Play" only two days before production was scheduled to begin. Described as a political thriller and based on a popular BBC mini-series, the film was specifically centered around Pitt as the lead character. Pitt had some problems with the script, which couldn't be re-written due to the writers' strike.
Brad Pitt's Sagittarius Sun (December 18, 1963; 6:31 am; Shawnee, OK) is in a close square with his Midheaven, indicating the natural tension between his personal needs and the needs of his producers (MC). His Sun is also conjunct Vesta, the asteroid bestowing devotion to one's calling, often portrayed as a workaholic. The prominence of Vesta shows his keen interest in the craft of filmmaking.
On November 14, Mars turned retrograde at 11º Cancer, while almost exactly opposite Pitt's natal Mars at 10º Capricorn. For the last three weeks, Pitt has been butting heads with the producers, precisely as this Mars-Mars vibe has been playing out. Pitt's Mars is conjunct Mercury, the planet associated with writing, so that his refusal to participate can be directed at the script's flaws.
Pitt's Mercury is currently being activated by transiting Vesta and progressed Vesta – they're both exactly conjunct his natal Mercury. It seems apparent that Pitt would do the film if the writing was up to his expectations. Although the studio is now asking Russell Crowe if he wants to fill in, Pitt may be playing a waiting game. On November 30, transiting Jupiter will be conjunct his Sun, bringing him whatever he wishes.
