Pakistan's National Horoscope
While Pakistan's legal independence became official at midnight, August 15, 1947, it's generally celebrated on August 14. Pakistani astrologers use several birth moments (notably, midnight on the 14th), but a solid case can be made for when the British Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten, administered the oath of office to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the first Governor General .
Pakistan's horoscope (August 14, 1947; 9:33 am*; Karachi) features Mars conjunct the Midheaven, where its influence has shaped Pakistan's colorful history with numerous martial events and politicians. Mars here explains why the nation has so often experienced military coups d'etat and the violent end to some of its leaders. Pervez Musharraf's coup on October 12, 1999 took place as the progressed Midheaven was conjunct the Sun.
Benazir Bhutto's Sun is exactly conjunct Pakistan's Midheaven at 29º Gemini, reflecting the important role she plays in Pakistan's history. She was first elected as Prime Minister on November 2, 1988 as progressive Uranus was opposite the Pakistan Midheaven (and her Sun). She was dismissed on corruption charges on August 6, 1990 as transiting Pluto squared Pakistan's Venus and opposed her own Venus.
The exact time of Pakistan's birth is especially significant now, since tumultuous Pluto is now entering the fourth house of domestic affairs. The last time Pluto was angular was in 1971, when East Pakistan violently seceded to become Bangladesh. Pluto is associated with dictatorship and extremism, a dangerous astrological influence which Bhutto is intensely aware of, since Pluto is currently opposing her Sun. She recently warned that: "the extremists need a dictatorship, and dictatorship needs extremists."
David Copperfield's Woes
A regular reader writes "I just love your NewsScopes and was wondering if you could do a little diddy on the magician David Copperfield and his current woes (sexual assault, show cancellations, FBI raids, etc.)." The reader is referring to an incident where an unidentified woman told authorities that Copperfield raped her after he invited her to his estate in the Bahamas, claiming he could help her with her modeling career.
David Copperfield was born with his Virgo Sun (September 16, 1956; 7:05 am; Perth Amboy, New Jersey) in the twelfth house of secrets, although it's close enough to his Ascendant that he fearlessly shines brightly. Jupiter is in the twelfth house, and this planet of abundance provides him with a library full of his trade's arcane knowledge. He has an actual warehouse in Las Vegas, filled with magical props and museum items.
On October 18, as transiting Uranus opposed his Jupiter, his warehouse was raided by the FBI, because they were looking for clues about his possible sexual misconduct. Copperfield fans know that he had a six-year relationship with model Claudia Schiffer, which ended in 1999. His Juno, the marriage asteroid, is placed in traditional Capricorn, giving him an instinct for committed relationships.
On the other hand, his Venus-Uranus conjunction in dramatic Leo thrives on exciting, glamorous affairs – even if they're short-lived. At the moment, transiting Pluto is conjunct his fourth house cusp (same as Pakistan!), as his world is being turned upside down. Still, he should escape this scandal (no charges have been filed), since his progressed Sun is entering a very favorable sextile to his Jupiter.

As for the ultimate winner, my bets are on Jennie Garth (April 3, 1972), with her Aries Sun on the DWTS Moon – if she doesn't fall! Her accident-prone Uranus opposes the DWTS Moon...
