Hillary Clinton and The Storm Goddess

ABC Nightline reporter Cynthia McFadden interviewed Hillary Clinton last week, and asked her about her potential run for the presidency and about her relationship with her husband. The next day, when prepping the tape during Good Morning America, the sound was abruptly cut off just as McFadden was asking a question. Viewers could hear confused voices from the control room saying "What's going on?"

Such technological glitches seem to follow Ms. Clinton around, and a look into her horoscope (October 27, 1947; 8:00 am*; Chicago) helps explain why. With Mercury retrograde on her Scorpio Ascendant and squaring Saturn, Clinton tends to lack spontaneity, preferring to express carefully thought-out strategies and policies. Yet, her Moon in fluid Pisces and square unruly Uranus tends toward emotional volatility and is easily irritated.

A powerful Mars-Pluto conjunction gives Clinton drive and ambition, but may also represent repressed anger. Her Mars-Pluto forms a precise trioctile (135º) to Juno, best known as the marriage asteroid, but sometimes known as the Storm Goddess. Juno demands fair and just treatment, and when she doesn't get it, can flood the environment with a psychic storm, especially when propelled by Mars and Pluto. At the moment of the sound glitch, transiting Mars was exactly squaring her Juno.

A most bizarre technical glitch occurred during a "60 Minutes" interview on January 26, 1992, when the couple faced allegations of his sexual misconduct. A row of klieg lights suddenly fell down, shattering near the Clintons, just as she was making her famous "stand by your man" comment. The interview became a turning point in his run for the presidency, as transiting Pluto was conjunct Hillary's Scorpio Ascendant and exactly trine her Moon. Her emotional intensity manifests in strange, unpredictable ways....

Great Britain's Transition

Last week, British Prime Minister Tony Blair was forced to announce his departure within a year, a development triggered by growing opposition to his close ties with President Bush and the war in Iraq. Blair's eventual departure will undo one of the world's most striking political partnerships which combined American military muscle with British eloquence.

Great Britain has a number of useful national horoscopes, but the one that best reflects the national character and historical events is set for the coronation of William the Conqueror on December 25, 1066 (noon, London). With the Sun, Mercury, and Venus in hierarchical Capricorn, the British have a clearly-defined class system, and the traditional values associated with Capricorn of responsibility, frugality, and reserve.

Aries Rising describes the Britain as a warrior nation and capable of great leadership. This fiery Ascendant does not fear conflict, and helped forge an empire across the global village. The Ascendant is modified by a tine from Uranus and Mars in Aquarius , which add elements of individual liberty and personal freedoms. These values were instilled in the British colonies, including 17th century America.

Now, with progressed Mars squaring the Ascendant, Britain is at war in Iraq and against international terrorism. Last week's troubles coincided with transiting Mars square Uranus and opposite the Moon. With 22º highlighted now (by the natal Ascendant and Neptune, and progressed Mars), any transit to this degree will trigger important events. The next important phase is when transiting Sun and Mars hit 22º Libra in mid-October.

Steve Irwin, Crocodile Hunter

The week following famed naturalist Steve Irwin's unexpected death, a tremendous international outpouring of shock and sympathy filled the blogosphere. News headlines around the world described the freakish diving accident, and how the man who had tackled crocodiles, toyed with venomous snakes, and wrestled with sharks was done in by a relatively easy-going stingray. Could his horoscope reveal the lurking danger?

Steve Irwin was born with Sun in sensitive Pisces (February 22, 1962; 1:00 am**; Essendon, Australia), and conjunct the first magnitude star Fomalhaut, which means "fish's mouth". This bright reddish star brings fortune and power (Ted Kennedy and George Washington were also born on February 22), but when conjunct the Sun carries the "danger of bites from venomous creatures" (according to astrologer Vivian Robson).

Factor in Steve's eccentric, death-defying character (Sun opposite Uranus and Pluto) and his adventurous spirit (Mars conjunct Jupiter), and we get a man renowned for challenging fate. Predicting an early death is taboo in astrological circles, however, astrologer Richard Houck did just that in his book The Astrology of Death. The main clues involve simultaneous activation of the lunar nodes, the fourth house cusp (endings), and surprisingly, Jupiter. Jupiter, as the traveling planet, brings the ultimate trip.

Many astrologers have already pointed out that transiting Saturn and Neptune were right on his lunar node axis when he died. Then, transiting Jupiter was exactly conjunct his deceptive Neptune in stinging Scorpio. And, transiting Uranus was very near his fourth house cusp, bringing a sudden and unexpected ending. With his progressed Jupiter exactly conjunct his Sun, Steve Irwin had achieved his life's purpose.

* Birth time is for 8:00 in the morning, not evening, as widely reported. For more on Hillary's chart, see NewsScope June 28, 2005. For more on Juno and the other asteroids, visit http://neptunecafe.com/asteroids.html

** This birth time should be considered a ballpark figure, and comes to me through Australian astrologer Milton Black: "I wrote to Steve a number of years ago, and he thought it was very early in the morning, around 1:00 am".
