Condoleezza Rice's Middle East Mission

Breaking sixty years of diplomatic neutrality in the Middle East, the Bush administration is preparing a geopolitical offensive aimed at ending the current conflict. Rather than shuttling back and forth between warring factions, the Bush team is pressing for an implementation of United Nations resolution 1559, which calls for the disarming of Hezbollah troops.

This week, Condoleezza Rice* (November 14, 1954; 11:37 am; Birmingham, AL) will present the case to regional players as transiting Saturn pushes deeper into her seventh house of partners and open enemies. Saturn here tests how much she can rely on Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Israel, while at the same time, creating stiff resistance from Iran and Hezbollah.

The strategy coming from the White House is to peel Syria off from its alliance with Iran, if that's possible. At the moment, transiting Saturn is exactly squaring Rice's natal Saturn in the ninth house of foreign affairs, as she sets off on the most important mission of her life. Saturn goes on to oppose her Mars in Aquarius, which will be exact on August 17, and then square her Sun in early October.

Rice's Saturn transits are structuring America's Middle East policy. Over the next few months, as Saturn moves into her natal Mars-Saturn square, we can expect plenty of high-pressured moves designed to force nations and their policies in certain directions. Transiting Jupiter is in Scorpio now, and heading toward her Sun-Venus-Midheaven, which gives hope for success. In the short term, we can't expect any positive feedback until Mercury turns direct while trine her Sun on July 29.

Pluto and the Lunar Nodes

In a fascinating branch of the celestial arts known as "Evolutionary Astrology", interpretations are centered around the placement of the Lunar Nodes. Any planets in close aspect to the nodes assume an extraordinary and fateful quality over the life, with hard aspects from the outer planets often bringing the more traumatic events. What can we expect now that Pluto is moving into a square with the lunar node axis?

In geopolitical astrology, the Middle East nations tend to have natal Pluto-Lunar Node aspects, perhaps indicating the periodic catastrophic wars that plague the region. Consider the three national charts reviewed here last week: Israel was born with its Lunar Nodes squaring Pluto (orb 1º23'), while Lebanon has Pluto Rising and conjunct the North Node (orb 0º58'); Iran has Pluto quincunx its South Node (orb 0º47').

Syria (November 13, 1970; 6:10 am; Damascus) is also a major player in the current conflagration, and has Pluto quincunx its North Node (orb 0º07'). This chart is set for the bloodless coup d'etat carried out by Hafez al-Assad, who died on June 10, 2000 when the progressed Midheaven was exactly conjunct Pluto. All these charts have Leo Rising or Leo on the Midheaven, and are now being fully challenged by transiting Saturn.

Historic events take place when Pluto aspects the Lunar Nodes, often involving decisive action from military factions. The U.S. launched the largest invasion in history when transiting Pluto was conjunct its own North Node (orb 0º19') on D-Day, June 6, 1944. What will happen when transiting Pluto and the Lunar Nodes square each other this coming October? Check your charts for 24º of the mutable signs.

Pamela Anderson to Marry Kid Rock

A Canadian reader writes that actress Pamela Anderson was a centennial baby, born exactly 100 years after Canada was formed on July 1, 1867. "Certainly she's a big star here, but while she was discovered in Canada, her success is as a result of American endeavors. ... I'm curious if she has even stronger ties with the U.S. chart."

Pamela Anderson (July 1, 1967; 4:08 am; Ladysmith, Canada) does have close links to the U.S. horoscope, beginning with her restless Gemini Ascendant, which is conjunct the U.S. Mars. Also, her Aries Moon is exactly square the U.S. Pluto, the nation's ruling planet. Her Venus is in the diva sign of Leo, where it favorably sextiles her Ascendant, and opposes the U.S. Moon, making her a crowd-pleaser.

The Baywatch star's Venus is the most powerfully placed planet in her horoscope. First, her Venus is angular (being conjunct the fourth house cusp), and from there it gains prominence by making numerous close aspects to planets around her chart, including an exact octile (45º) to her Sun and a sextile to Mars, giving her an abundance of animal magnetism.

Last week, Pamela announced that she's marrying Kid Rock on July 29, but curiously, her Juno, the marriage asteroid, is not particularly prominent right now. However, her Venus is: transiting Pluto is trine her Venus, while her progressed Ceres is conjunct her Venus. Ceres-Venus connections mix love and fertility, and this aspect is only getting stronger over the coming year. This has all the earmarks of a marriage due to a pregnancy.
