End of World Theories: Will the World Really End on December 21, 2012?

Yes, humanity will go into a new Renaissance. This is with the help of extraterrestrial beings.

Just like Y2K, it will be a normal quiet day. Why scare people? Give the earth 5 billion years and the sun will burn out. Thats when the world will end.

Portals are like swiss cheese in our universe. Extraterrestrials travel in and out of them every day. They are elusive as the earth's magnetic forces plays a major role in determining where these portals are. As the earth's magnetic field changes direction over time, these portals will become larger and as a consequence the earth's rotation will spin out of control. Yes, the scriptures of Hindus state that the world will come to end only after some of millions of year and not earlier. We are only at the beginning of the Kalayuga Pada and each Pada consists of millions of years. So why to worry? Be cool. What ever is in store will happen.

Take the circle and turn that into a "hollow sphere" and the dot into a solid sphere trapped within the confines of the hollow sphere. Again, visualize the solid sphere in motion within the confines of the hollow sphere, and you will have the truest sense of what "infinity" looks like in the three dimensional world we live in. (You also now have a means to predict which was not present before, as well as being able to own millions of infinities all your own.) So please refrain from saying that "Infinity is impossible to grasp in finite terms." It does nothing to advance progress and assumes that we cannot grow into areas where one thinks we cannot (the only limiter we have is ourselves). James A. How can you compare this to Y2K? You can't, as it's two different things. Y2K was just some stupid thing with dates on computers that it will not recognize, just screw files up, etc. It had nothing to do with the universe or planets and just dumb computer time. But this calender deals with universe and planets.

December 21st, 2012 has been part of not only the Mayan calender, but also the Tibetin, Egyptian, and Chinese calendars. This is not a doomsday theory, but a reality caused by a natural cyclic event that we just happen to be living through. The natural frequency of the earth is increasing steadily and has been for the last 2000 years, (50% higher then it was 1500 years ago). Why? This is something I nor anyone else will be able to explain. Some things just are not meant to be understood, they just are. It has already been noted within the scientific and shamanistic communities that the earth's magnetic energy is rapidly dropping and will reach a magnetic 0 on or around December 21st, 2012. This is also included in the mentioned calenders. With the decrease in magnetic energy, we find the life force energy increasing, this is only natural as a balance will automatically re-establish itself. As we get closer to December 2012, a series of spontaneous awakenings and leaps in consciousness will take place in the human realm of awareness. I have already had to work with people who are going through it and have helped them cope with a higher state of awareness that would have otherwise driven them crazy.

I find it really interesting that the Mayans, the Chinese, English oracles, and oracles from Rome and Greece predicted that everything seems to end on 2012. I was just watching the history channel and to be honest I am little worried. I'm Jewish and this stuff scares me, not because I think Jesus is coming or anything but because of all these things adding up. I mean, we are with the exact alignment with the sun and the Milky Way on 2012 on December 21st? It is really weird. Because perhaps we can find a way to avoid the end of the world. As humans we can avoid the future. I know that.

I liked this article. I also believe that 2012 is when all evil will be wiped from the Earth, so there can be a Heaven on Earth. God has given everyone a timeline to get better. Everyday people are turning into bad people. Good people are being corrupted by bad people, and even killed once and a while. You don't have to believe in God to reach the Golden Age. And the right train isn't the easy train to get on, but the 9 3/4 platform, the one of helping those who can't help themselves, and living for the sake of others, takes discipline and respect to reach. Even if you don't believe in the theory of 2012; become a better person. God KNOWS what's right and wrong, which is why I recommend him. But even if you don't believe in him; find the path of good and you will find him. It doesn't take a devout christian or anyone special to do the right thing. The world is not coming to and end, is not going end, that�s impossible, that world is going to have a RENACIMIENTO. Yes, they will be changes in this world but we have to make theses changes by having a conscious. We have to take care of our world. All those predictions are just for us to change way we see and do things, is up to us to change our world. I have been so enthralled with the concept of this date and the more I research it the more I find that there are so many things tied to this date. You have the Earth's alignment with the galactic equator, which no one knows for sure if it will have an impact. 2012 is the next solar flare cycle which poses the potential to mess with our magnetic field and satellites to name a very few. Just recently stories are emerging about the tremendous numbers of vanishing honey bees. Billions upon billions of bees, reduced anywhere from 40-80% in certain parts of the US and Europe. These bees are vital to the pollination of our crops. How does this tie to 2012? Albert Einstein was once quoted as saying, "If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would only have 4 years of life left." Look it up. I couldn't believe it when I read it. At the rate they're disappearing, should they vanish in 2008, 4 year would be...you guessed it master mathematician, 2012. I did not notice any threads here revealing that (with only less than 2 weeks of precision) the Mayan calendar had CALCULATED that the sun should be PRECISELY in the middle process of that 1 per 26,000 years cycle! Great article. After reading it, I am not sure which side to believe anymore. The side that says the world will come to an end in 2012, was so very convincing. But, prophesies also stated that the world would go through some type of dark age in 2000, and look, we're still here. And they're is no dark age going on. If the distinction of the bees has anything to do with this, there is no possible way that ALL bees will vanish by 2008. The world may end 2013, who knows it might end 6233. My point is no one knows exactly when doomsday will come. For all we know, it could end in 10 minutes.

Hello Everyone, I am glad to be a part of this discussion. First and foremost there is no such thing as ANYTHING permanently ending. Matter & Energy are interchangable. Science has proved that energy cannot be destroyed. So life on earth or the planet may end as we know it (which may not be a bad thing) BUT we will then be part of a NEW beginning. SO Jes, you will see 18. My Theory & it may be shared by others: On December 21st 2012 the human race will end as we know it and we will "finally" evolve into the spiritual beings that we are. There will be less emphasis on divisiveness of religion, color, culture, country, nationality as we will ALL realize that we are connected and part of the same human family. Our true spiritual nature will shine through. So with every "seemingly" end is a new beginning. This change will not come easy as "pain" & difficult times usually precedes spiritual growth. I love your vision, Ken. My question is regarding those who choose to cling to their beliefs--like having the only, one, right, true god--and choose not to surrender to the vibrational shifts. Surely, universal love would never engage in the futile attempt of overpowering free will. It seems that most of us spend myriad lives surrendering to the love that we always have been, are, and always will be. I don't suspect that the end of this evolutionary journey--at least for all of us--is 2012.

Well, right now I'm only 12 and am in middle school. Today in world history my teacher showed us a video, it showed the Mayans and how they think the world is ending on 2012 December 21. But really, how can you know when the world will end? The world will never end,(I am Christian, the faith) and I think the only part in life that you will really take a second look at the roses and how great your life is when your body goes up to heaven and your soul is with God. That is when I think time will really stop--the second before you die and you think about the great moments in your life. In that second you see that time has really stopped.

it is a load of nonsense. when we die we die. it could be getting run over by a bus or a heart attack but the earth will not end cos that is what they said a couple of years ago and it never happened so what makes them think it is going to happen this time? to me, when we die it is our time to go so no one should be scared because there are some of the best scientists in the world and they make themselves out like they can do anything so to me i believe that they will be able to make something to help us live longer because they are so smart and they pretty much know everything. so i believe that they can do it. i might only be 12, but they have made so many things to help us im sure they can help us with this problem as well.

Hi all, I enjoyed reading this page as well as all the comments here. Seeing as all the coincidences came to this one set date, I do truly believe the Mayans about this date. But though it seems the end of time for us, I don't look at it with fear, I look at it with hope. Hope that the human race will finally coincide and become one. A little over 5 years and we'll see what will happen.

I don't know the date when this world will end, but when I'm looking around me and see how the human race population is growing and how the earth is destroyed by the human race, then I will say it is time for mother earth to take action and get rid of this demolishing... I must say that I am so pleased with this article and all of the comments and opinions on this. In my Global History class, my teacher showed us a video that talked about the Mayan predictions and that the world would come to an end in 2012. This though, I admit, scares the daylights out of me. But I believe that we will enter a new phase of humanity. With all of the bad in the world today, it's easy to see how cruelty has gotten progressively worse. By 2012, it's hard to believe that we, as a whole, will have anywhere to go but up. And also, I'm not shocked or worried about the fact that many ancient cultures had the same dates for the end of things. Many different pieces of information were shared, such as mythology. All cultures borrow from one another, so it would only make sense. But like Bryan said, we'll know in a little over 5 years. Oh, and on a side note, I love the comparison with the Hogwarts Express in this article. :)

My guess would be the year 2323 at 23:23 because after all everything revolves around that number apparently, however I have seen the end of the world in my dreams and it is in my lifetime meaning probably sometime in the next 50 years although I remember being about 25 in the dream so in the next 5 to 10 years in that case, if the end of the world is anything like it was in my dreams then it is something to look forward to because it was beautiful, you may choose not to believe there will be an end in which case your living a lie because everything comes to an end it's a case of will be it caused naturally or by man, going off my dream it will be naturally but at a time when man needs it to end!

Has anyone seen the new program on the History Channel regarding 12/21/2012? Very interesting show which tells of past "prophets" and "oracles" who foretold the year and in some cases the date hundreds, and thousands of years ago. The one area where modern science and the visions of these people connect is in the predictions of massive quakes and natural disasters world wide & rapid climate change faster than anything we're seeing now. The theory of the earth lining up with the sun and galactic equator on this date may create a sudden shift in the magnetic polarity of the earth on such a scale that the axis of the earth itself shifts dramatically. This causes the mantle of the earth's crust to rotate wildly, creating earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis. In all of my research it is one of the few areas where ancient visionaries and science meet. But as we all know, over the course of human civilization, tens of thousands of people have waited for "the end" to appear as predicted...often giving away their worldly possessions and taking every step one would knowing without a doubt this would be the end. Religious leaders with flocks of thousands on a mountainside, prophets, shamans, and the nuttiest of the nut jobs...yet here we are. Another generation of "This is the one!! This time it's for REAL!! It all makes sense NOW!!" And in many ways the signs are eerily imminent, but until I'm staring apocalyptic mayhem in the eye, I'll go about life as if I have another 50 years...reluctantly keeping my 401k. As much as many of you out there may truly believe the end is near, the actions of these believers tell a different tale. Think about it...what would you do with your life if you were absolutely certain that the end was near? The thought of what you would do probably doesn't match the reality of what you're really doing. Which is probably a good think. The smallest bit of skepticism and doubt creates the fine line between peace and total chaotic anarchy.

Hey everyone...I don't know what to believe except the one thing of how no one really knows when it will end. Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions on it, so why try to force yours upon others if they wont change theirs? As for the Mayan calenders, well, haven't read that much about them, but I have heard about the theory of "the end of the world on December 21, 2012." But I have to agree with what other people are saying and say that its not technically the end of the world, just a transformation of some sort. I've heard that the "end of the world" will bring a new Golden Age. In that case, I am looking forward to it. As for religions, those are own personal beliefs which cannot be changed, so believe what or who you want about who/what will be the savior or the one "returning". Me personally, I am Catholic, so I will live my life to the best, and my intentions are to help others. I'm planning on enjoying the Golden Age.

I'm not sure if this is true, but in my country there are people who predict people's lives and pasts and someone told my dad he will live till he's 79, which is in 40 years. Today is 2007, so if it's in 40 years it would be around 2047. I don't know how this could be true.

The Mayans were great calender keepers. They did not know how the calender would look after 21st December 2012. End of calender.

How long did we all expect the Mayan calendar to go on for? All that I have read is that the calendar stops at 2012. Ergo, all that happens is that the Mayan calendar stops at 2012. When do all the calendars in your house end? (and why does it stop when it does?). Who out there has any evidence that the Mayans said that the world ends after/or on that date? Is it feasible that they probably expected us to be sophisticated enough to pick up from there and carry on? Quite likely; as they would never have comprehended the shallow and superfluous distractions we have in modern life now. Ok. The thing is. I don't believe it AT ALL. Heard the one about "OH MY GOSH, THE WORLD WILL END ON THE 7/7/2007!" Remember that one? They said the sun will bake the earth. *Cricket* ITS RAINING IN SUMMER! The only one I believe is the Pyramids saying that the world will end in 2969 AD, Because they predicted the world war 2, and they predicted the death of Christ. To be honest, I think its stupid. I know that the world will end some day, and I know one we will all die, but not in 2012!! Personally, I think its pathetic, stop worrying about it, just think of the present. When I first read about it, it scared me so much I nearly practically threw up. After reading all of this, I must say I am also becoming a bit excited. Not necessarily in a positive or negative way, just excited and a bit awe struck. If what many of you posters are saying concerning other predictions and events, then something really will happen. I think you are wrong comparing it to the Y2K. Y2K is the rantings of some idiot who thought a computer was more stupid than he was and would be able to change the year in its smart chip. The computer has smarter brains than that idiot. Mayans created the calendar we use today. They knew when to plant crops and when to harvest. What makes you think that they can't predict something like an ending? Believe me, there is a difference.

I don't think that the world is going to end in 2012. When the world is going, we need to know Jesus. Just look in the news and if it doesn't say anything about the world ending don't worry and just live your life and be happy, and pray to god every day. Watch nothing is going to happen that day. The world was going in the 1970's then 06/06/06 then 07/07/07. Most of the stuff that we get our hands on we don't completely read or understand. I think people need to stop scaring people and live every day to it's fullest, and stop wondering when the world is going to end. For all we know, it's going to end tomorrow.

All of you that say there is a God how do you really know there is one? I am not saying that I don't believe there is one, but I would like some actual proof. Who cares when the world is going to end? If we knew, we would be tossed into chaos just like knowing when we would die. It would ****. So let the world end when it wants to and deal with it. Who cares if we go to heaven or are reincarnated? It doesn't matter. Live life the best that you can, and take risks because life is boring without them. This is just my opinion.

I remember all these predictions the year 2000, 6/6/06 also the 7/7/07 when we was apparently going to get baked by the sun, but it rained the whole day, but 2012 I really do think that something is going to happen in that year. The human race has turned back on it's self where we are just demolishing everything. I think it also will have something to do with Global Warming and Einstein prediction of the honey bee's. All I know is that day will be like no other, if it happens there will be mass panic.

I believe something will happen but if you read about all of these horrible things and then you read the good things that will happen you feel calmer. I have read many articles and am ready to give my spirited opinion. According to my studies something major will happen on this day, whether we are completely annihilated or we are visited by extra terrestrials. Who knows? Well one thing is for sure, if we don't all die that day, on February 2nd, 2013 we will enter the golden age. After 12/12/2012 everyone will be shaken up. Who will survive? I am catholic, and I believe that god has planned this. I have read that in the golden age more than 60,000 people will be enlightened, with abilities. Like healing or something, but I know god loves us all good or bad. Why would he kill us all and not just the horrible bad ones? 5000 Confirmed reports of people having serious problems like that little boy in Pakistan, found surrounded in a sphere of water. I think we are in for a rude awakening. What if god decided that he would set us humans here to see how we would live our lives? What if we are an experiment? What if we're not the only living creatures out there than he might send angles or extra terrestrials to save the good ones? Who knows? I mean it's like contemplate this and form an opinion. I am just fed up with the world is going to end theory. If the polls shift we won't die. We will if we go outdoors, but I mean wow. It's scaring me now that everyone's excited to die. What if the last thing you ever saw was a rock in the sky? That wouldn't be cool, because what if there is no heaven or afterlife? Then what? Or maybe in some beliefs you aren't reborn? What then? I want to die when I am 100 years old and have lived my life the way I have wanted to, and achieved all of my dreams. That's when I want to die. Not when I'm 17. So, I for one am changing my ways and in some way I am becoming pure. If something involving pure of heart is required to survive if there is a catastrophe then I will survive and will be able to achieve my dreams and live my life fully. This should go out to all of you, because it makes me sickened that you would want to die. Sure you believe your beliefs but that one thing sickens me. So if there is a catastrophe and you need to be pure to survive then I suggest all of you follow my footsteps. I may be young, but I can still take a stand and believe what I want. So please become pure, extinguish all of your dirty and bad habits. Commit little sins. Believe in your religion. And be pure at heart and do more good than bad.

If you think about it there is a world for every human being. No matter what it is, there is a world just for that person. We will all die alone in the end, so there is always an ending to the world. Just think about it and don't be afraid. Believe in your god.

I don't think we are going to die, because that's what they said would happen in the year 2004. How do we know it's not true for 2012. I think it's just rumors going around and predictions, but let us just pray it's not true.

I think the whole thing is flawed in the translation, or its all BS because its written in the bible that Jesus will come and we will not know when.

I don't think anyone should be scared. I understand when you first hear "the world is going to end" your first instinct is to be scared. What people need to understand is that every one in this world has a different interpretation of the world or what they read, or hear, or see. The Mayan calender for some may just mean that the Mayans had a calender and that 2012 seemed like forever for them and that's where they decided to stop. It may mean that they really did take into consideration the planets or the power of all our energies to be coincided. But through it all no one person knows what they meant, except for the Mayan who made the calender. We may all die. We may not. Hundreds, thousands of people die or are born all over the world each day. A day in the year 2012 is like any other day is. A day some of us will die. And for those of us that do, all we had is what we knew and what we made of our lives while we were here. That's all that matters. For those of you that are young and feel scared, life is not something you should fear. The year 2012 in the Mayan calender is a belief and a theory that some interpreted and voiced to educate people who knew nothing about it. Like all things in life, life is a learning experience, we make mistakes, we grow and we learn. Life is only what we make of it. So if you chose to believe in the end of the world 2012 theory, that's great for you. I assume you're living each day to the fullest and if you don't believe that the world will end in 2012. then just live your life the way you've always dreamed of and when your day comes to leave this world, be it 2012 or 2007 or whenever your "world" ends, then your loved ones will know that you lived.

Is that like 21 December in America, or 21 December in Australia? Is only half the world going to end at the same time? Get off your drugs.

People of earth: I should hope that all of you are at least a little fearful and worried. Emotions aren't binaries. They don't have opposites. I have faith in humanity but fear that the people in charge of our precious resources will let billions of people die as a result of war and the approaching energy crisis. In spite of all the horrible things we do, I still love humanity. We're in pretty bad shape, and I don't think a benevolent god would let this happen, let greedy, deceitful, destructive people control the means to sustain life. People influenced by negative forces, or vibrations or whatever, certainly have encouraged destructive behaviors, like wars and hoarding resources, including money. I'll get right to the point. We're running out of oil. The elites have known this for a long time, probably since the 70s. That's why we're in the Middle East. So they, the elites, can get the 60% percent of recoverable oil remaining there under the ground before China, Russia, India, or anybody else gets it. The FBI and the CIA knew 9/11 was coming. They needed it to happen as a pretext to get the energy. You may have noticed that the price of crude oil has set records for what, a week straight this month. Sure, it dipped a little lately but the trend is obvious. Eventually crude oil will become unaffordable. The shit is running out and when it does civilization cannot function without the energy to transport food, to illuminate the pages of a book or an art gallery, to make clothes, build houses, or anything. December 12, 2012 could be the end of the bell curve, when people decide to either band together voluntarily or be consumed in the chaos that will surely ensue when the energy runs out. Every so often, cataclysmic releases of destructive energy happen; it's just a matter of when and where. You can't stop an earthquake or a volcano. You can only hope to mitigate the suffering it causes. Maybe it'll be Guatemala in 2012, I don't know but at this point, wind, corn, bio-fuels, or nuclear energy combined comes no where close to replacing the energy we consume. The energy crisis is like Vesuvius or Pompeii. So I'll keep worrying and being fearful, as long as people think they have the right to exploit a person's labor for a profit, to enslave people in ignorance just so a handful of greedy people can get richer and more powerful. You can't just wait for Dec. 12 to happen, so get worried and scared and act upon it in a positive way. All the horrors of this world make me scared and angry sometimes. Some of you may feel the same but it doesn't have to control our lives; we can channel these feelings into the actions that can turn this thing around before our five years is up. Prove to each other you we can trust again and cooperate. Little by little, prove to your fellow humans that altruism, not greed, deceit, and self-concern, benefits the greatest number of people. Please, do this. I don't know if December 12 is the deadline, but considering all the data, we don't have much time anyway, maybe seven years. People might call me "alarmist" but if the house is burning and you don't wake people up, aren't you as guilty as the arsonist? I can't agree 100% with the calendar predictions, or Uranus traversing Pisces, or Jesus, or anything like that. I do agree that it's urgent to inform as many people as possible that the end is nearer than we suspect and that only love and solidarity can see our species through to better days. Treat each other well.

I'm not sure about what will happen in 2012. Not any more so than any other year in the future, I do "know" that I'm supposed to go on a pilgrimage of some sort in 2014. So, I think the world is going to be around at least until then, although I might not be afterwards. Anyone reading this ever been in a life threatening situation? Did you pray to God something like "if you'll just get me out of this, or I promise i will do whatever?" Maybe thats what 2012 is all about. The world as we know it ending because for a brief moment in time, the whole world is praying to God instead of fighting, cheating, stealing, etc. That could bring about a lot of change especially if God responds! Maybe that is God's plan. Stay safe and try not to worry.

The world isn't coming to an end. Think about what your saying. Nothing is going to happen. It's impossible to predict something like that. Even though the Mayans and all these other civilizations have made a lot of predictions nobody looks at the number of stories or predictions they got wrong. They all started around the same time, and they all have similar calendars. They probably based them on a 100 year mark for every symbol, and every single religion or culture has its own way of saying how the world will end. The world isn't coming to an end, has their ever been a global catastrophe like this in human history? Humans have been around for over four billion years, that's a lot of time. I don't recall a time when we were faced with all this end of the world stuff, and if something does happen, what are we going to do about it?

I first herd of this, this year in my 2007, Chicano study class. Whether it is true or not, I believe that it will come to an end someday. I mean everything that has beginning has and end. I have herd that the last true emperor of Montezuma will come back one day to reclaim his kingdom. Some say, it's a scientific event when all the planets will be aligned. While others say, extraterrestrial life will come and wipe all of us out. There are many reasons of why this might seem like a reasonable end of the days event, yet whether it ends or not, I'm looking forward to December 22, 2012.

The world has no end at all. The world ends when we die. The world lives on and on and nothing will end it, unless we make a bigger more powerful bomb to end the entire thing. Don't worry about this stuff. It's really stupid, and it just fries up your mind. Also some people actually worry, like this person questioning. Get on with your lives, and don't worry about when it ends. Because honestly how can you worry about the world ending the day it happens, when everyone else you love is dying around you. You adults are scaring the little kids like us. I'm 14 and my aunt and brother were discussing the Rapture, as you fellow Christians know that is when Jesus, our Savior, will come to get his Church. I know this because I have studied the book of Revelations. A gigantic earthquake will strike the Earth. It is one of the judgments God will unleash upon the earth. This giant earthquake will happen in two years, give or take, after the signing of a treaty that will leave Israel in peace for seven years. But the "earthquake" and meteors that will be rained upon the earth were mentioned in the Bible. But no one knows when the Rapture will take place. Jesus doesn't even know. Until God says "Go get my bride." I will live a Christian life and pray everyday. The end of the world is coming, and probably soon. The Mayans were smart, I'll give them that, but I doubt if Jesus doesn't know, then a group of humans would know things that he himself doesn't know. I will leave you with this thought, the huge earthquake that will change the face of the earth will happen, and I won't be here to see it.

On December 21st, 2012 no one needs to fear. Many of us obviously have many manh different opinions. Some people think that the world is just going to blow up. Some think that the space people will rescue us, and other's think that at a certain time all of our mind's thoughts will all come together, and you'll have the choice to stay on Earth to start over or move on into heaven to help with other's. I'm sure many of you have different opinions, but just don't worry until that day comes. Don't fear it. Live your life as if it really was your last day on Earth.

What gets me about these never ending prophecies is how everyone thinks everything all adds up so well. I don't think it adds up at all. I think people are not looking into it, all that much. I think we are driving ourselves insane about it, and if you look into anything hard enough you are going too make yourself believe in something that will probably scare you. It's like the guy who predicted all of this bible code stuff. A recent study showed, even using a book like Moby Dick a person could find supposed codes, because the book is huge, and its hard not too find something, when you look so deep. We all want to know the end, so we search and search until we believe we have found common reality. Look at all the wars, look at the weather cycles, they are worse now then ever. They have always been worse now then ever. They, will continue to get worse. That's what happens. A thousand years ago people could of thought about the weather cycles, and the wars dominating the world, and it would of been the same ordeal. It's always been this way. It's our sick human nature. The fact that the dudes predictions see no more in 2020 says nothing. Maybe the guy, just got tired of predicting. And the calender had to of end eventually. They couldn't go on forever, and I know earth wont either, but to think that this is reality is probably as bogus as the other 1000s of predictions. Are we destroying our world? Yes. Will our world end, eventually? Yes. Will it be in 2012? Maybe. Perhaps we will all be destroyed. After all, someone has got to be right. Eventually, but most likely, I see it being another normal day.

I purchased a calendar in 2006, it only ran through October. The rest was missing. I enjoyed the next two months and simply purchased a new calendar for 2007. I'm still here, and it's twelve months later. I plan to start 2013 on a good positive note as well. All this stuff is simply excuses for us not to deal with the situations, both environmental and political, facing our planet. Lets wake up and deal with these things in front of us.

I hope the world doesn't end 2012, but I do like the intriguing idea of the "new golden age". Reading in the bible it could be the "New Jerusalem", maybe, just maybe, the whole thing does mean world peace. I have a feeling that the turmoil in the middle east is going to get a heck of a lot worse, God Bless our soldiers, but I think in the end they would not die in vain. I am very fortunate in that I have almost a year's worth of sick time accumulated. If I have that much when I choose to retire from work in the year 2016, assuming I'm still walking around in this body that I'm borrowing at the moment, then they'll give me credit for it. But maybe with all this end of the world as we know it talk, I should call in and use my sick time now and do meaningful things like enjoy my family more and go fishing more. Maybe, run up my credit cards a tad bit around Thanksgiving 20012 and show everyone a real good time. Then again, maybe I need to get away from thinking like this, as I'm not superstitious, because I know that superstition is totally false and that it's bad luck to think like that. Perhaps I'll just plan on business as usual.

Why do all you people stress about this? The world will end when God feels that we should no longer be here. So, just chill out and let the future unfold on its own instead of trying to make it a big deal now.

I agree with all of the smart people that are saying that this is all bull. We aren't going to end. For all we know the Mayans could have just been mapping warnings that God is sending. And when you all think about it, God is the only logical thing out there. We didn't explode from an atom of nothing. We will be told if we are all gonna be blown up by massive super volcanoes. Rent the movie last days on earth and see that the top thing we are facing to wipe out the human race with is Global Warming. So there's no point in getting people scared for nothing.

Why are people so worried about dying? If you live your life to the fullest like you should, then why worry? The one's that worry are the ones who don't know how to live life. If I die tomorrow I won't be sad. I have had a good life. All you stop being a bunch of Sally's! You can get hit by a bus tomorrow, then what? Don't be dumb. I don't believe in any of this non sense. No one can tell the future.

Yes, the world will come to an end. Probably not in 2012. Palpatine is right, the date December 12, 2012 occurs at different times around the world. Will the world die in sections? There goes Australia. There's the US and UK, and finishing with South America. I think not. The human race is destroying the earth, but at a rate that can't be determined. With the bees, it is said that one bee is killed at every phone call made with a cell phone. More and more people are getting cell phones daily, faster than people are deciding not to use them. Bees are essential to human life on earth, they support our food system. And with the planets aligning, that's just bologna. I don't believe it has anything to do with it. I think people can save the planet by using less energy, not polluting as much and joining as one. People feed off the idea of being scared and having myth. It's just what people do. This sounds like the biggest myth possible to me. Death is natural and occurs everyday. It's not something worth being scared of, everyone will experience it.

Oh and for the record for everyone trying to say its the same thing as all the 6/6/06 and 7/7/07, for one its not 12/12/12 its 12/21/12, and neither of the 6/6/06 and 7/7/07 were prophecy's made 500,000 years ago.

If whoever reads this hasn't gone back and read everything before this note, please read the one before my own. I don't know who it is but I believe he or she has a few good points. I would like to add somethings though. Honestly, I have studied many different aspects of this prophesy, biblical, Mayan etc. I can't really say if it is going to be the end of the world or not. I believe we have this choice. We have the choice to better but all that I can see is people in fear. Naturally people run away from their fear and then there are people that impress that fear upon others to escape their own. Some people will simply choose to set it aside and pretend it doesn't exist. It does exist and you need to wake up to it. using examples like 6/6/06 and 7/7/07 is an ignorant excuse to not believe what has been a prophesy for years upon years of time. These other dates are but foolishness from the people of our time, believing ignorant uneducated beliefs could compare to the knowledge and wisdom of the Mayans, Egyptians and so on. The only thing we now have to fear is impure, judgmental, and stereotypical people. Our inability to work hard and educate ourselves is our weakness. Like 9/11, I believe this is a self-fulfilling prophesy that one of our own or many of our own, I mean humans not a specific race or religion, is going to fulfill. Because it was said, "It shall be done" so look at it like a meal that has been being prepared for a really long time, and on 2012 is going to be served by someone who believes it, on this date. So thank the believers of the calendar. I am excited to see what may happen, because we could only grow so much. How do you build something better before breaking down the problem you had to begin with? Now if a comet falls from the sky and kills us all, I will put my foot in my mouth.

All I have to say is that God said no one will know the date or the time the world will end, so you know this is not true. You'll see God will prove you wrong. Look at how many predictions there have been. Your just another one that is going to be proved wrong. Oh man I can't wait till you see that you were wrong and every one that predicts it will be wrong. I'm only 14 and I could argue about this forever, but I only have to argue with you until December 21st. I can prove you wrong because I'm on God's side.

Hi, I'm an 11 years old and this is all really scary to me. But even though I'm Christian, I believe that God set this date to end the world and to put us all together into peace. The world is already falling apart with global warming and all that bad stuff. So, I think God knew this was going to happen and set this date so we could go into heaven, and it would be some other creatures turn to "rule" the world. That's all I have to say, and I printed out this page to show my friends, who don't believe any of it. If we can get the world to know about it then maybe we could find a way to stop it, if that's what we want.

How can anyone be so arrogant to believe humans aren't just as susceptible to extinction as any other species. Why aren't there any more dinosaurs? What could possibly take down those giant beasts? A cataclysmic event on earth perhaps? In addition to predictions made by the Mayans, The Hopi Indians, Nostradamus, the Bible, and Einstein, there is plenty of evidence that our time on this planet is finite. Major disasters become more and more common place every day. Look at the past two years, the Indian Ocean Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina are the big ones that stand out. Now states are fighting over reservoirs, California is burning down and the Northwest is now under water. And that's just the "natural" stuff. Then there's war, war and more war. And this "God" so many of you speak of will save us? Just like "God" has lifted so many others out of harms way, right? Oh, that must be because all those innocent Iraqi children didn't give their hearts over to Jesus before they were blown up by the US "liberators." Wake up. On second thought, go on being sheep so you can sleep at night after you said your rosary for whatever horrible thing you've done that day. That'll make it all better, right?

I choose not to believe this theory. Although, I do believe the world will someday end and this whole thing does scare me. I think this is a time where the Mayans saw us falling apart, and that they used this date to help us pull together. Folks keep your faith, keep your head up. Jesus said we will not know when the rapture happens. That does not mean we will not predict. It means that when the rapture does happen, we will not be expecting it.

First of all I would like to say this was a very good read. I came across this from doing a little research. A few weeks ago there were people going around telling everyone the world is going to end in a little over 5 years. So of course, everyone freaked out. I came on to see what this is all about. Although, I do not believe the world can really "end". If anything, the world being "destroyed" or something would seem more logical to me. After reading some things people are writing on the internet, I was nothing but scared. But then again, I thought, "If the world is going to 'end', then that is how God intended it to be, and that's the way it will be." We shouldn't spend the rest of our "5 years", if that's all we have left, worrying about what's going to happen and rather see it as a new beginning of some sort for the better. That's the way I'd like to put it, or look at it. All I have to say is we should start treating others well, and start doing the right things. If we only have 5 years or so left, it's not a lot of time to start making up for your mistakes.

How did they predict that this would happen so many years ago. And what evidence is there to show this? Everybody has a different view or interpretation of what the world is. I don't think that people should be scared, because it depends on your interperatation of what the world is.

I don't know if I really believe it or not. I have my whole life in front of me. Its something that has been going through my mind a lot lately. My friend told me something about Nostradamus. I don't know much about him, if anybody could tell me about him. Hes predicted Hitler, Napoleon, and the World Trade Centers blowing up. Thanks much for the really good ideas.

What many do not realize is that the Mayan calender was completely misinterpreted. There are many Mayan elders who are disgusted that people are trying to interpret their calender. Only they were actually taught how to properly do this. All they believe is that in 2012 there will be a major shift, a good one. So for all of you that are feeding into this fear of the world ending, because thats why your here because your afraid, stop worrying because the world will become a better place for us all.

Reading this article was great. I'm glad that people are aware. This all seems to much to handle, time portals? Sounds like something out a science fiction movie. But really is it as impossible as it sounds? There are so many things that we don't know and an entire universe out there. It's our imagination that brings things to life. If you believe that strong in something it's possible. It has to be, why else would that thought be created. It's not nonsense. We are made of energy, and it is time for our third eye, shakras, our vibrations to be aligned. We are meant for something greater. Aren't you sick of working for the devil. I just want to live a life of being free. This life isn't free it comes with a price. It's an apocalypse but that doesn't always have to be a bad thing. Maybe its just the time of people really coming together and using our thoughts for the first time yo create something more and better. First of all, I'm getting tired of people who claim that the world will end or won't end on this date or any date for that matter. The answer is we won't know for sure until it happens, so don't claim to know what is going to happen. People are entitled to their beliefs, thats fine. Secondly, people who state y2k as an example for why the world won't end are thinking in basic terms. I think someone stated this already, y2k had to do with computers. December 21, 2012 has to do with planets and astrology, something completely different. And if I had to pick when the world would end based on the facts between y2k and 2012, I would definitely pick 2012. The Mayans were an extremely knowledgeable and advanced culture. Scientists still cannot figure out how they obtained their vast knowledge on astrology. The fact is, it is quite astounding that they are able to predict these rare planetary alignments. I don't think it would be wise to completely dismiss the Mayans prophecies. It is my belief that something very interesting may happen on this date. If the end comes, whatever that may be, total annihilation or a Golden age, consider yourself extremely lucky to be alive to be part of that time in history. We at least know, that there are going to be some fascinating planetary alignments, and that alone, will be special to witness. All I know is, I won't be getting much sleep before December 21, 2012.

Firstly, I love the Hogwarts Express reference. But, onto my point. We don't know when the world will end. We're all going to die in, insert random date here. Weren't we all supposed to die in 2000? Or on June 6th, 2006? What happened? A bunch of boohoo over nothing. Mayans are smart but not that smart. Only God knows when the world will end. My prediction says forget 2012. It is way far before the world will end but not too far either. I feel that something big is going to happen between 2025 to 2027. But again why worry, enjoy life.

I feel whatever happens, happens. It was scary at first, as many of the happenings thought to take place, are linked together and all lead to 2012. It doesn't mean we should panic. We believe this will happen, but we don't know for sure. Don't be scared for four years. What if nothing happens, however don't waste time, make the most of everyday. God is the answer if you feel lost or if you don't know what to believe. At the end of the day we are just human beings with convincing opinions and beliefs that may be true or not. You should just treat everyday as it comes and not stress over the future. If this happens then, it's a physical experience, and it will give us more answers to questions. After researching on this topic about 90% of answers on what will happen all say that this day will result in peace and a positive future. We'll have to wait and see, in the meantime make the most of what you've got and enjoy it.

I really do doubt that the world it going to end. I mean get real people. The world will end in five billion years, when the sun burns out, not in four years. Honestly, the things people will believe nowadays.

Yup thats the scary part about it. Chinese I Ching or aka book of changes and the ancient Mayans. What's scary about the Mayans is their calendar system. Their calendar system is so highly complex and accurate, even better then our own today. 1500 years in the past they knew about the moons. They also predicted when the moon would rise or set and when a full moon would occur. Modern scientists know the precise time the moon rises and sets. When the Mayan records of moon rises and moon sets were studied, the shocking part was the Mayans were only 33 seconds off the actual time.

I think that the world wont end anytime soon. I love Harry Potter, but I think the whole Hogwarts things is pretty lame. How do you refer the world coming to an end by a movie about witches and wizards, and they are not even true. You can't really say well maybe it will happen or maybe not, stick to one answer. Mine is, I think that it wont end. It's 2008 that means the world would end in four years. I don't think so. How many times is someone going to tell us that I'm starting to think it's for fun just to scare us. It's a waste of time for people who research it. Do something that is worth your time. Nothing is going to happen. It's just like when we went from 1999 to 2000. Oh my God everyone was scarred out of their minds trying to figure out what was going to happen to the computers and all that.

I'm fairly freaked out by the whole mess. My sister was the first person to talk to me about it. She went on about polar shifts and energy and all this crap that someone or other was predicting to happen. She threw in the Mayan factor too. Then I do my internet research and am left with my head spinning. This world has been here a long, long time. I've concluded that my time researching the end of the world needs to come to an end. We can't agree on how the world was created or what made the dinosaurs extinct-and being that hindsight is 20/20, it should be easier to know that stuff then, right? Heck, you can't even get an accurate weather prediction about snow. While the ideas may have scientific roots, I think that they are merely ideas and not predictions. Although, rather eerie for myself is that I will have turned 30 on 12/20/2012, and Jesus died around age thirty to thirty three. I believe or guess that I'm the only one who finds that weird, huh?

I'm 16 and I understood almost 95% of the article. It seems more than just simply amazing. The Mayans were pretty smart compared to many other civilizations of their time. Hats off to them for their excellent and almost accurate predictions.

I'm 15 years old and there is scientific evidence supporting this. The human mind is capable of great amazing things yet our society today tells us there is an extreme being above us that controls our destiny for us. I grew up believing that until I realized it doesn't work that way. You have to live for yourself and let your mind do the thinking. I have to say, I'm kinda excited for the end of the world. It will be my time to fully open my mind, and I will finally have the chance to live in peace. Millions of people have been looking into this over the years and have been studying the planets and stars to give us the evidence we have today. The most talked about calendar is the Mayan. They based their calendar on the planets. Their calendar stops in 2012 because of the solar flare. Is this true? Is this event going to take place? Evidence tells us yes. True maybe all the mythical stuff won't happen, but the solar flare may. When this happens, it is going to pull our magnetic field and alter it. When this happens, our axis, gravity, and human life could cease to exist. I know a lot of people need a God to tell them this is true. The power of the mind is amazing. We must think critically on this one. Can you really conclude the world ends on this day? No, it's just the end of a calender. I am 13 years old. I am Muslim. The world may end maybe between 5 to 10 years. There is evidence. For example according to science, according to Islam, Christianity, Jewism, the Mayan calender, and according to all the prophets of Allah Hazrat Isa to whom Christians call Christ. I am a little undecided about the whole end of the world on December 21, 2012. I have heard on the history channel that the world was going to end in the year 2029 from a huge asteroid that is going to hit the earth. I have also heard that the world is supposed to end at the start of the next world war. I personally think that not anyone can predict the end of the world. Not anyone but the man upstairs. I'm not entirely sure if anyone knows this to be fact or not but the Maiyan and the Mayan's are not the same group of people, nor did they live in the same region of the planet. After extensive research on the Doomsday theory, I have come to the conclusion that the calender simply ended on this day. As the region of the planet they lived it the season of harvest was over and it was time to plant new crops for the next harvest. The Chinese calender is for exactly the same reason but opposite. It was time to harvest their crops as opposed to plant new ones. The Egyptian god Kai was specific to the number 12, meaning the last Kai. Roughly translated means: "The last one," meaning that after the 12th Kai there weren't anymore gods. 12, 12, 12 will not in fact bring Doomsday. I suggest you do some research for yourself before stocking up on supplies or worrying yourself sick over this ridiculous myth.

Nobody knows when the worlds going to end. Only god does. You shouldn't predict when he is coming back when you don't know. Don't you guys read the bible? It specifically states that no man knows when he is coming back not even Jesus himself. Me and many of my friends have come to one conclusion without a discussion. We all gave the same idea oddly enough. Who's to say that the Mayans just get lazy and stopped making a calender? Think about it this way, why would they continue to spend all this time on making it? That is a lot of days. 365 days a year. Every 4 years 366. They did this for thousands of years. Just like in our lives today every generation gets lazier and lazier. The new generations of the Mayans just slowly didn't feel like going any further than they already had.

I really don't want to believe this, I mean, I graduate in 2010. Two years of college and then its all over. I remember July 6, 2006. The day everyone thought the world would end because it was 666. But it didn't. I think December 21, 2012 will be the same way, or at least I hope it is.

I don't believe the world will end on that date. I agree that it was the last day of their calender. I think we should worry more about our problems today. In the beginning this person said the 21st, and this is not correct it is believed that the world will end on the 12th not the 21st. Hey guys, I have been reading all this stuff for the past half hour. Basically too much to digest for a 16 year old like me. For me, I do believe that there is a god up there watching all of us and all of our actions. But just looking at this forum it goes to show that there are many people who do care about the end of the world. Forget about when it will happen, or how it would happen and all that. How about putting that care into more important issues like loving your loved ones and taking care of the environment? Seriously, I feel if the whole world thought like all of you guys here, I certainly believe that there will be fewer wars, a better world etc. For now, just live life to the fullest because if you do die, at least its without regrets.

The world will not end in 2012. How can you prove it? The Mayan calendar can be wrong this time. This calendar is not made by god. Some people made it, not god. If you believe in god then it means that you are not believing in such superstitious and rubbish things. Don't worry, we have many years more. Predictions cannot always be correct. Yes, there can be scarcity of food and water. There can be world war three too. But if you want to stop this then you have to stop polluting and over using our natural resources. We can ban polythene packets too to save us and our environment.

In southeast-Asia, in New Orleans, lately in Myanmar, hundreds thousands of people have already lost their lives due to extreme weather related disasters. Blame the global warming or climate change, something is already happening around the world and thousands of young people die before they see their graduation or age 18 or the first kiss. None of us in an exception. The storms, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, food crises, energy crises, water crises will continue killing people. It won't happen on one day. It has started and gradually getting bigger and bigger. By 12.21.2012 the magnetic polar will change, but that doesn't mean the catastrophe will happen on that day. The world time is too slow for human time. The catastrophe is happening but seems to be slowly progressing to human feeling. Mayan's did not claim that the world will end on 12.21.2012. They claim the calendar will end and a new one will start. They tied their calendar to major universal events, such as the alignment of the milky way and sun, as well as the polar change. That might not mean that people will be destroyed. However, as with all changes, there is some pain to suffer from. The polar change doesn't happen silently. We are observing its affects and those who can take precautionary measures will feel the affects the least. Just be aware and conscious. Follow the science and listen carefully what scientists suggest to survive with regards to sustainable management of water, energy and food. Don't go after sect leaders who may brain wash you to do something harmful to yourself and your beloved families.

If it is going to end, I hope it will be along time from now. I want to get very old and see my kids grow and see them get old too. I think it's preposterous to say that the world will end in a known particular date or time. I am not an agnostic person, but I strongly believe in the creator. According to the creator, this is something that no human or a created life will have a clue on how and when it will be destructed. However, in light of the revelations, definitely the world will come to an end; destroying everything on the face of the universe. As far as revelation concerns, this is something that we humans or any created life; past, present or future will not have a clear knowledge of. We will not know the timing of destruction. Now the topic about the crystal skulls, there has been evidence about the 13 skulls holding energy there has been 8 found and 5 are still missing around the world. As an apprentice to both Mayan and Peruvian shamans I can tell you their interpretation of the Mayan tradition. The Peruvians say that "a time of darkness is needed is grow the new seeds," of spirit. The world is gonna end when oil runs out. There will be no way to transport goods and we will all probably die of starvation unless you have a farm. What we need to do is invest in a good renewable source of energy that can keep everything going. I personally think that people who are making such a huge deal about the 12/21/12 theory will cause a huge uproar and destroy a whole bunch of stuff, leaving those with minds to clean up after them. The world will end in 400 million years not in 2012 or 2013. Animals live like 5000 years, so we have maybe 400 years left to go that is what I think. Many people just write in and scare others. Predictions are made that never come true.

I referred a lot of articles and every thing says something or other is going to happen on 12/21/12. Its pretty confusing when you go through the net and read all this stuff. I think we should forget worrying and wait and watch what is really going to happen on that date.

Call me selfish, but I really don't want the world to end. I'm just getting started on my life. I finally know what path I'm taking and where I might end up. Normally I get a sixth sense when it comes to bad things about to happen. Yeah, I'm probably crazy. I sometimes get a feeling, especially when I read this, that the world will, most likely end. OK, now that I have read almost all of these posts I am dumb founded that people can believe such crazy stories about alien beings coming to "take over" the Mayans, Egyptians, and whoever else says that the world is going to end on a certain date. Also that god is going to remove all evil from the world, and there will be heaven on earth. It's all a bunch of stories made up to keep good little children from straying the wild side. The Aryans were a very gifted people for their time, but honestly where are they now? If they were able to tell the future wouldn't they still be here now instead of their whole civilization being wiped off the earth? Morgan I think your thinking of Nostradamus, and I agree with you how fascinating the human mind is to predict these kinds of things. I think something will happen on 2012 but I'm still not sure that mankind will be destroyed or set into a golden age. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.

I don't think for a second that the world will end in 2012. I think something will happen, but not as extreme as the world ending. However, I do believe that the world is ending slowly by global warming. As a result of global warming countries like The United Kingdom are getting extreme weather conditions i.e heavy floods, small tornadoes, and soon the UK will be experiencing tropical extreme weather. So if the world will end it won't be because of a calender, it will be because of the pollution. Global Warming will end this world someday.

OK this is how I think about it, there has been so many different ways the world is suppose to end, a mass plague, the asteroid mentioned above, or the latest is the "big boom theory" happening in France as we speak. I believe this could be the end sooner than we expected. This is like trying to fit a dog in a tuna fish can. You can not recreate a world inside another world. I believe the world will come to and end, but it could be sooner or later than proposed. Take this in to consideration, the gas prices and all the murderers and all the disease going around, may mean the date might be wrong but it is coming.

I honestly don't know what to believe. It all sounds so convincing. I've heard so many things though. Like 6/6/06, I didn't believe that, but that day really was a rotten day for me, I had too much bad luck, like with the whole Friday the Thirteenth stuff too. I always happen to have bad luck, but I never believe in the world ending. We're still here, people even said the world would end this year, 2008. But it's nearly over and we're all still here, aren't we? But the thing that had me wonder is when my friend asked the Ouija Board when he'd die out of curiosity and it said he'd die at the age of 21, but it never told him how or anything. He is 17 until February 2009. And when will he be 21? In the year 2012. I don't believe those boards that much though, and really I just find it a coincidence. Though I am very superstitious. I don't know much about that Calendar but as far as I know, it's just another prediction on what may happen, just like all the other things I heard, and it's all very convincing but who is to truly know? Who can be sure? It's in the future. We have but to wait until that time comes to see what is to happen. We have the power to change our future. However, I do believe something will happen that day. I believe in some Golden Age. But look at where the earth is heading? The way people who live on it are taking care of it, whether or not the world will end that year, that date. The way we are taking care of it may be the destruction of it. Maybe not, I can't be sure. The world may come to an end at some point, but I'd like to think it'll go on forever. Look how far it's gotten already? I'd like to look at it as it will start all over again if anything. But really my hope is there to be an afterlife, like Heaven, you know? I believe, but who can truly be sure? I just have hope. I hate thinking of death, of the end of humanity, the world. Because then what? What else? Everything would have been pointless if it is to all just go away just like that, leaving nothing but darkness. What would be our point? We are we even here to begin with? Because you know, we could have never existed, yet here we are. I just can't help but think about it so deeply, you know? But I'm tired right now and honestly this has been eating away at me so badly considering I had a nightmare a few days ago about the world ending. And I got into all of this when my friend said something about 2012 to me again today, I had forgotten about all of this. Whatever is it come, in ways I dread it, in ways I have hope. I would, however, like to live my life longer than the age of 19. I want to live my life, get married, have kids, etc.. But I'd rather live my life to the fullest while I can rather than dread that date, though years fly by. You just have to make the best of it. I really don't know what else to say, everyone has their own opinion on it. But really, I hope for the best, and not the worst. And I believe that we can all live longer than that date. I want to have faith, I'm trying to think positive and it's hard, so don't ruin this for me. Because as I said, I'd much like to live my life to the fullest while I can, but we all die at some point, I just want to live longer than 2012. I'll stop my babbling now.

Right, all predictions and calculations say about 2012 will make the world end. If it does, what will the end mean?. Is it for life or the physical globe or in cosmic. OK even if you believe the current position of entire globe with all natural and unnatural happenings. A mother can kill a child and this is unimaginable. I do not understand about the Big Bang research. Is it possible to find the beginning of the world. If it is so, how is it possible to create life? They have been calculating the entire universe. Something like that cannot be calculated. And somebody says there are other galaxies apart from our galaxy. I hope they find what has happened and not how it was created? Hello, Everything that has been on the Mayan Calendar so far hasn't failed. And has came true. But, the Mayans are not predicting the end of the world in 2012. They are saying it's a new era. The Golden Age and not the end. I'm only 13. I'll be 17 in 2012, and people we will not die then because its not going to be the end. It's gonna be a new era. So don't panic. The world will end. The world is not going to end December 12, 2012. Do you want to know how I know that I'm right? The Mayan and Hopi Indians predicted that the world would end on the 21st of December, 2012. That's the answer. The Mayan's predicted this around 500 BCE before there was mass human civilization and before we actually started counting years in 2000. Now if you do the math the world was supposed to end during December 12, 1512. The world was supposed to end over 500 years ago. I bet when it passes 2012 and nothing happens people are going to predict that the world is going to end in 2022 because of dead dinosaurs killing every one.

Sounds like a lot of the "law of attraction" if you don't know. I suggest getting a book called "The Secret," I believe in this method and the way I see it, everything so called bad in this world that we allow to just go right on, is building up. We all know what goes around comes around essentially the "law of attraction". Becuase we as human beings no longer understand and respect the happiness and joys of being given life, living, and surviving. We automatically over step the meaning of life itself. Instead we go about our days worrying about things that don't really matter or focusing on the wants in life and not the needs. The way we see it is an afterlife, where the true meaning is finding heaven in life itself "creating heaven on Earth". Life is not a test, it is life. There is a reason for us wanting to do whatever it takes to survive and that is that life is the most important thing. What people believe is the end of the world is amplified by our imaginations. When it says that the world will end as we know it its literal. "The world will end as we know it." It's not that the world is gonna be destroyed, but that it would change so radically it will not be the world were used to know. In the year 2156 the age of Aquarius will begin. Now, what 2012 marks is the beginning of this new age where the world will take its natural course and slip in to an ice age like it normally does which is called the great cleansing, a time of total peace, the golden age. As all sin and negative things will be whipped away and the ones who chose to believe in themselves and truly know themselves will learn survival and know that life and living is the most important thing. What God stated as the 10 commandments creates an ideal being. Think if everyone accepted themselves and the true meaning of life then they would fully know love, the most powerful thought of all, and surround themselves in only love. Then all the world would know is love. Our ancient ancestors did it, and I will too. That feeling, the voice in the back of our head telling us all that something is coming, it is not fear, it is not the end, but survival kicking in. Yes, I do believe that the world is coming to that time, and I blame humans for all of this because we use automobiles, factories, nuclear power plants, etc. In the very beginning, humans found how trees animals, natural gasses, and much more became useful. We had a time were we overused all of that. We instantly made animals suffer and go extinct, used too much petroleum and now the economy is horrible and might go into a new "depression." I personally am disappointed and think that we humans are the most stupid species of all. Humans are always saying that we are the most intelligent species in the world, in the universe. Well we are not, a squirrel is smarter. I will tell you this, if you overuse gas or do not care about the environment, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I am only 11 years old, and since I was five I could just see how we humans are. We are the worst thing that happened to this planet. It is too late to save this planet even if we all use hybrid cars and stopped running factories. This is very likely to be the end, and the government probably already has the answer, hidden just like area 51. Why would the government hide area 51 if nothing was there? Because there was something. Humans are selfish and that is why the world will end.

It does sound strange how ancient civilizations predicted the future through astrological charts. It is just amazing beyond belief. Perhaps looking at the current world climates, the human approach may be true. We have become corporate robots with money and wealth, the only care we will have. As described "The Golden Age" will take over and produce better non-greedy but earth loving people. I do agree the way we treat our planet (mother earth) is pathetic. We no longer care about each other, and we have more care for materials things, cars, clothes, cash and higher rated credit. We are more focused on wealth and we waste so much money on things that we don't even require. The amount of poverty around the world is less important than the US defense budget. The question is how do you lead a good life? With money and greed, or with love forgiveness and compassion. The world today is a frightening place to live. No one cares anymore, and the world is getting smaller.

There is no way you can predict four years into the future. Only God knows what is going to happen to us. Although it may be in the bible there is still no guarantee. Things do change. The talk of this has my whole family freaked out. No one should open their mouth until they know for a fact it will happen. Anything can happen in four years that could lead this so called sun in a different direction. If anyone has any more proof or can give me hard core evidence for me to even consider thinking that this is going to happen, leave a comment back and stop scaring people.

This whole thing has been eating away at me for years, and I am a devout christian. I just hope it does not happen for another five billion years or so. But the world may never know. I have a massive headache from reading everyone's opinions after the article. The article was pretty great. I don't like to think about natural disasters being associated with 2012, I prefer to think of the "golden age" concept. It's less difficult to deal with a higher level of consciousness than millions more people dying in a flood, earthquake, or super volcanic eruption. That being said, I keep dreaming about natural disasters. Freud's dream interpretation has another idea about these dreams, but I think they're weird so I'm sharing, the first dream I had, which was a few weeks ago, was that I was setting up lawn chairs by a pool and there was popcorn like at the movie theater, and we (a group of people I must have made up for the dream) were in Chile and were going to watch a volcano erupt. Yes, specifically Chile. I am American and don't know much about that particular South American country, but I do have a nephew, by marriage, who is part Chilean. Next dream was a few nights ago, so it has really stuck with me. I was in the back of a department store, sitting on boxes and I was supposed to be working, but was just sitting around with a bunch of people (that I made up for this dream because I didn't know any of them) and I felt a small earthquake. No one else felt it, I asked them. And then I knew it was going to happen again, but didn't even feel like warning anyone. And when it finally started I was insanely happy. Weird stuff like that has me thinking, but I really want to stick with the Golden Age Theory, myself. Seems less messy.

My comment is reasonable. The theory of the end of the world is no doubt questionable. Now to have a better perspective on the subject what about religious beliefs like love, or power? What about most people like me who have an open mind to everything this world has to offer, and to the facts. Yet it still seems obsolete, but the more we know the more time we have to take the time and heal the planet's natural habitat etc. My question is how does someone comprehend the balance of something so immediate? I don't doubt the theory but it's hard to comprehend such a chance of change. A new era of either evolution or death. I believe that it is all based on your belief. Really all this is is another religion about someone's believe. You can sit here and read these comments and make yourself go crazy wondering what to believe these days because of all these different theories (either creation or science), you ask yourself. Well it's really just a test. Do you believe in god, and no I'm not that person that is closed minded because I read this whole article and put thought into it, but I do believe in god. The only thing is I'm a strong believer and just some things that happen in your life are unexplainable, because they deal with how much faith you have. We just have to be positive in every way possible and life will fall into place the way it's supposed to. Just live life and stop worrying about this stupid 2012. This is really creepy for all of us, specially for me. My birthday is in December 21, I don't want to have my birthday day present being the world ending, specially on my birthday. I have read many things about this whole world ending in 2012, I do believe something will happen, but the end of the world. I mean the Earth just can't blow up, or some meteor huge enough to kill us all. We have enough technology to predict some of the things. Well whatever happens we will find out in four years.

There seems to be confusion of the date. 12/21/2012, or 12/12/20012? In any case, here is my conclusion. This is not going to be apocalyptic, but merely the end of the world we are used to, and the start of a new age. New ways of thinking, being, and living. A truly new Renaissance era. Scientifically, The magnetic poles may shift, and the Earth may cause changes that test our survival. For instance, your body heats up, to kill infection. We are hurting the planet, like a nasty virus. However, the human race are survivors, and will use our new found understanding to start living harmoniously with each other, and the Earth. We will learn from our mistakes, and start a "Golden Era", of enlightened beings, and higher consciousness.

It isn't going to happen. The Mayans also believed that sacrificing people gave them a good harvest and hunting season, that don't happen either. Consider the level of there understanding. It was probably a meteor that they worked out at the the time but has now strayed off course. Or if you think about it there was some meteor or something going to hit earth in like 600 years I heard on the news, maybe they got there dates wrong?

First off lets understand something. It's not only the Mayans that predicted this date 1000 years after them. A few thousand miles north was a group called the Hopi Indians had the same date and time frame from their medicine man, and then Nostradamus and Edgar Cayce, all different people living in different era's where saying the same thing. They never met or read the other's work. As for the Y2K give me a break that was a man made device and everyone was concerned about time stamps with there computers what that has in common with the rotation of the earth and the galactic alignment is beyond me. I don't know what's going to happen, but what I do know is the movement of the poles should start to concern some people, and the galactic alignment. I'm not an astrophysicist but this can't be good. Anyway with any luck like the mayan and Hopi said the end of the word of God may just mean all this religion that starts all these wars and gets a lot of good people killed will be gone. Now that would indeed make it a golden age.

The time would be 02.21.21.12.21.12.12.20, which equates to 12:21.21.20 on 12/21/2012. Saying that there is a 1:10.21.20 time factor, estimated now but close enough for discussion. Remember the -7.5 degrees? The degree factor for 1:10.21.20 is about (17.0). The location at 11:11 12.21.2012 GMT is 7.5 + 17.0 = 24.5. Go to 24.5 east longitude on your world map as see where it is. Oh yeah, Really want to blow your brain. Use the Ying/Yang-0/1 theory and you get the location of -24.5 longitude/24.5 latitude. Real close to the Holy Land. Ponder that stuff. That's impossible, not only does one take 5000 years to be completed, it does not happen on set times and dates, so we don't know when the next one is. As for the Mayan calender, the completion of a calender was called for celebration, it represents the end of one cycle and beginning of another. The 2012 case is a hoax that many many people are cashing in on. Watch as December 21st 2012 rolls around, they say at 11:11, correct? Watch as it becomes 11:12, 13, 14, etc. Live the day just like every other day, don't fret and go crazy. Nothing's gonna happen.

I think that personally the world will never end. That the ones who say it believe the theory of an idiot. How can we know when a world war will be? How will you know the world will end? He's not there to listen to silly prayers. Okay, I like most of the information posted on here. I'm no scientist but lets take a simple example. I measured the Earths temperature increase in one min. It came to a 0.0000000380 C increase. In one minute. Do the calculations from here on your own. I came to the simple conclusion, even though not accurate, still disproves a lot of your so called beliefs of the world still surviving 1 billion years. In 1000 years the Earths temperature would approximately increase by 19.9728 C. The Earth is currently sitting on around 14.638958000 C. So in estimation, in 1000 years the Earth temp would be 34.611758 C and already a problem to survive. Forget the 1 billion theory. Take 1 million and the estimated Earth temp would be 19972.8 C. Finally to this subject, this obvious information I am very concerned wasn't considered by the 1 billion year experts. As for Ethereal worlds and fourth dimensional existences. A simple belief structure can form your own existence. What you truly believe coming true theory doesn't always happen. If one believed without a doubt that lets say the world would end on a certain date, yet another truly believes the opposite. Not both can happen. Why are we worried about all these theories? What happens happens. Even if a comet came and destroyed us. Knowing would be good but what difference would your death or time of death matter after death. If God exists as some say and believe then I don't see God sending us to eternal damnation under Christian beliefs. One aspect that does make me wonder, is the portal of other dimensions. We all live in all dimensions. But is there a dimension that is part of another existence and not where we are? If in the above we lived in all dimensions a portal would not be necessary. Just a state of your being. Please explain more about what you mean by portal. I am no scientist or highly educated individual. Just been to too many non physical realms. I'd like to enlarge my knowledge.

Our very own nature of existence prove that there is a creator who formed the entire universe and “this so called god” lives outside of our time lines who knows everything. As the saying goes that “there cannot be smoke without a fire.” Our limited 5 senses are not able to capture and fully understand god. It is same as when we were inside our mother’s womb, we felt happy and contented and sensed this is the only place that there to explore and when we come out into this world, we still think the same way. God has already planed our life cycle and each of us are unique and special to him, he loves us all and sent his only son to save us from our sins. He wants us to understand and love him through faith, so that we can all be his children one day in heaven. He gives us time to transform ourselves like Jesus Christ, so that that through him all mankind would be saved and we will be ready to deal with this so called magical “Year 2012” end of times. All you have to do is to believe in Jesus Christ and live according to his word and see how he would transform your life through faith in him. Read the Bible “the New Testament."

I personally believe, the world will never end, not after all these years. If many people knew that the world was gonna end for sure, it would be a world panic. If the world was going to end, it would be due to massive earthquakes or sand storms, and things like that. Please, care for the environment and nothing will happen.

It's pretty scary to think about all this. I personally wish I would have learned about the Mayan Calender conspiracy on December 20, 2012, that way I could live my life without the worries of December 21 2012. Regardless, if it happens, it happens. I'm personally pretty scared about it, but I'm just taking into consideration that I should enjoy the time I have left rather than worry about the problems that will occur in the next four years. I was reading through the first (maybe 20-30) comments and am so happy to see people and their views about this. I'm only 16, and will be going through this at the age of 20. The Mayan's didn't say the world would end in 2012, they said the 5th period of the long calender would end and the next period would begin, as per the previous 4 periods I presume. A little like the end of a millennium.

Why people get so worried is weird because if you do die on 2012 December 21, why does it matter you won't know that you died. People shouldn't fear death.

OK there is this thing called the Myth of progress. In this myth it is said that progress continues and everything will get better. I believe everything will get better, whether it be spiritually, physically, or mentally. We may even enter a new "Atlantis" age, no one knows. Since the beginning of time there has been progress, there has been the Neolithic period there has been the Enlightenment, the Industrial revolution, the scientific revolution, etc. Through all of these we have gained and benefited. If bad stuff happens then it will happen. I think that is what humans are partially made for to learn from their mistakes and pick themselves up. Look what is going on right now, people are seeing how all the stuff they have done and how it is harming our planet, through this there is the uniting of people and the uniting of nations. Whatever happens, I believe it will benefit us.

There have been a lot of inventions in this world, but no body can invent a time machine. According to Islam the most complete religion no body knows the future and no body knows when it's going to be the end. The end might be tomorrow, or it might be thousands of years from now. If any one can predict this thing that on the said date it will be the end then that authority is claiming to be God, and I think the God is the one who is forever. No one can predict this. So, don't worry. Keep it up and do good deeds and spend your life calmly and honestly and don't harm anyone.

No one is sure if December 21st,2012 is the worlds end because people can't see what's happening in the earth. Only God knows about it. That's why others do not believe in it. I'm fast in believing in myths but I'm not fast believing the earth ends. And there's no world end in the bible. Was this a coincidence? 20th Century, Mayan writings were decoded. In 2012 Dec 21st the calenders ended. A message was left for 2012. "A Great Change" or "A New Beginning". Mayans could predict lunar eclipses thousands of years in the future. So is it all that unbelievable that they predicted something else, something bigger? No one said the world would end. That is something the public made up. What was said is a New Beginning would occur, Not a end. If only in a year we can have 13 months, I believe this theory will be accurate for 13-13-2013. I think people are just looking for a sensation between the same numbers on date, month and year, and so far nothing is really happening. We only have 12 months in a year, and because of this, they said the world will come to an end. I think it is true there will be no more identical number after 12-12-12, and the theory will come to an end on that date, but not the world, my friend. Not our world.

How could the Mayans really accurately predict some universal happening and we can't. I realize they were smart for their time but they didn't even have electricity or anything. The more I read and watch on the end of the world 12-21-2012 the more I believe it is just another day. Other than we will have mass hysteria and the Christians will be out trying to save everyone’s souls on the street corners. Don’t laugh there is this guy in Sierra Vista who dances and plays the banjo on the busy street corner here, praising Jesus. He also wears a huge cardboard sign that says Jesus Saves. At first I thought he was a bum wanting some money. If that does not make you think that Christians are a bit crazy I don’t know what will. Not to mention Jesus did not write a single word in the bible. Name one scripture in the bible written by a woman? Not even Mother Mary wrote anything and she gave birth and raised him. Just some thoughts that made me stop and reevaluated my own beliefs. Also Jesus was not born on December 25th, there is nothing in the bible that states when his birthday is. We only have records stating that the shepherds were tending to their flocks and that would have been in the spring or summer time. Don’t get me wrong I am not against Christians I am just against people trying to push their beliefs upon other people. I am so scared. I have two small children 6 and 8 years old, and the thought of them not living out their lives hurts so bad. This is turning into a crippling fear and I don't know what to do. As I see it, beliefs on someone's theories have been false to this day. Oh many people were excited and thinking of The millennium that's it. It's over and nothing happened, same as 6-6-6. I think that in 2012 there will be a zombie Apocalypse. Although sounding weird like it wouldn't happen, it could. Just splicing together and reversing some viruses could make the T-virus. For example An Anti Immune Disease attacks the T-cells and eats the tissue in your body, if you reversed that, it could still attack the T-cells but instead of eating the human tissue, it regenerates it. That, along with some other diseases or viruses spliced together could make the T-virus or something close to it. I mean think about it.

I've often found one of the more interesting things about humans is the simultaneous ability to need to be individual and the mob psychology that occurs when we are faced with a situation where we attempt to find and explanation to the things we do not understand. Well I must admit there is some crazy predictions for this date, which do have some accuracy. First off, the Mayan calendar will end on 12/21/2012 but it says nothing about the end of the world. It is simply the end of a great cycle, which ends on this date, and a new one will begin thereafter. There is a major galactic alignment that will also take place on this date, and a magnetic pole shift may also occur, but according to scientists, this does not all happen in an instant. Pole shift in a slow process over many years, and some scientists think the poles are slowly shifting even right now. The shift could also cause major world disasters, but the magnetic level is not predicted to become 0 gauss and cause any crazy catastrophes, another great example of some truth that has been blown way out of context. Nostradamus is also another big name in these prophecies, also another example of people molding something into something completely different. Nostradamus did make 1000's of quatrains which are said to have predicted many events in the past and future, but the truth behind his quatrains are that they are so extremely vague that you can technically relate it to any event that has happened. People, especially Americans, have had an insane obsession with the end of the world. It is our own anxieties that feed into this year after year, it is sickening and ridiculous that people are so concentrated on thinking this way. All of the examples I mentioned do have a bit of truth to them, but the problem is that they have all been twisted and reworded and misinterpreted through all these years that they really do not have any truth left to them anymore. And most of you are reading this information from conspiracy websites hosted by crazy conspiracy theorists. The saddest thing is it is so hard to even get the real facts anymore because of all these websites and biased TV documentaries spewing false misinterpreted information. My advice to all of you is to take this all with a grain of salt, and take advantage of this precious time we have on earth. Trying to predict 5000 years into the future is like trying to melt ice in the south pole. It just will not melt, meaning it could be very inaccurate. As has most likely been posted on here already, I didn't really have the time to read through all of the comments, the thought of the world ending on 12/21/2012 is possibly not true. There is some chance that something may happen on that day, no one can predict that, but there isn't some fated thing that is going to happen. A calendar, made by a civilization who completely died off, is still a calendar. A man made tool to help measure something and try to gain control over yet another thing that we do not have control over. To try and explain something that we really cannot begin to comprehend. Basically, it is make believe or play time everyday. The truth of the world is that we have night and we have day. That is all that we should be allowed to grasp. We should not be going around throwing propaganda in the faces of people who will, most likely, act like sheep and cower because they don't want to take the time to learn something on their own.

People 2012 is a year that humans will perish from the Earth. The atmosphere will leave our planet, and all the oxygen will be gone. Nothing will survive. Everything will die. We will suffocate, and no longer exist. So, enjoy life while you're here, because after December 21st your toast.

Life is what we make it, so we should make the most of who we are and what we do. If the world were to suddenly end this very moment, there is nothing we mere mortals can do about it. While it may be tragic that our children may not enjoy the rest of their lives here on earth, I would rather believe that there is something better for them. I refuse to believe that God created life just to snuff it out as a consequence of metaphysics. God is better than that and if that were so, then all we can really do is go on, reach self-fulfillment in whatever vocation or career we take, and hope that this will all amount to something.

I'm not sure whether the world will end or not. I believe something will go down on 21/12/12 or 12/21/12 for Americans, I'm British, but will it be something relatively harmless like some constellations fusing together to become something that looks like the world or it might be something that could benefit us like a cure for cancer. It could even be something like the ice caps fully melting or Africa becoming inhabitable. I will have to meditate on this.

The Bible says that the Jesus will come for the Rapture whenever everyone has had a chance to accept him, taking into circumstances, babies who haven't sinned will go to be with Jesus. Technology is what will take everyone out. The military and government have the ability to tear a hole in the ionosphere by means of the radio antenna up in Alaska. Others also have this. Hi, I just visited the site, and my reaction regarding this whole end is nigh on 2012 stuff is that I would like to inform everyone that they have kept saying that the end is near for nearly as long as human civilization as existed and perhaps it's our own morbid fascination with our propensity for self-destruction, feminists would argue that it's because of too much testosterone and a patriarchal culture, the current global economic crisis a case in point. Actually I am more amazed that a lot of people around the world from different social strata, not essentially the usual religious loonies actually have lost confidence in themselves and have started to believe in this stuff. It's tragically ironic to see how the human brain which is capable of producing something as great and complex as culture and civilization can also produce such insane self-delusional thoughts. After reading all these comments, I feel bad for people whose brains absorbed so much media that they can't use common sense anymore. First of all, some people believe in spirituality and some believe in science. I have to say that people who believe in science provide logical arguments as opposed to believers of spirituality. I think everyone should take a step back and take a look at this as it is all science facts, as they can see and the calendars in the past have shown, Mayan, Chinese, Egyptian. I am not sure if 2012 means anything. I mean I know there is a lot of evidence from a lot of cultures, but why worry about it? If it is going to happen why stress it? I for one, think that the whole thing is just a myth. The Mayans may say that the world will end, but they also thought they were made out of corn by the gods. Why should we believe the corn people? It's not my place to tell people what to believe, but I know what I think is true, and I may only be 13, but I know that the world simply isn't going to end, not now at least, not for billions of years.

Two things, first prophecy is not what will be, but what may be. Second, the planet will survive even if man does not. Actually, according to my wife, an Astrophysicist, it has been discovered that the Sun will go Red Giant much sooner than expected, less than 5 Billion years, though how much less is still being studied. Certainly it will not in 3 years.

It's a scary thought, thinking the world might end in 2012. Everyone is saying "live life to the fullest" and all that. "Being a good person will help you in the end." I don't want to believe it will be the end, I don't want to think that God or extraterrestrials feel the need to kill off something so beautiful. If that is the grand design, then I say so be it. I don't believe it, I don't want to believe it, but on the 21st I'll wake up early, tell all my friends I love them. I'll call my ex girlfriend and tell her I didn't mean to break her heart that she was the only girl I've ever actually loved, and I'll eat dinner with my parents in the living room, maybe watch a movie. If I could do all this everyday, that would be my complete happiness: knowing that I went out, loving and being loved. A lot of people have been trying to say the earth will end on such and such a date, and this one's probably just as much of a crock as the rest, but it's making people think. Especially this guy.

Only God knows when the world will end, not man. I don't care what the Mayans, Nostradamus, Hopi or Einstein said. They are man. Apparently you doomsday folks forgot the Bible passage that Jesus will return like a thief in the night, not on a fixed date. Everybody is so negative about this date. And stop scaring people. Remember every December 31 the world doesn't end, but a new year begins.

It could be a turning point for humanity as you said into the golden age, but yet this wouldn't seem to be able to happen without the deaths of many people on the earth. The golden age would be one of equality and peace, where competition isn't a focus and people would learn to live their lives without needing to control others, not caring about death but rather happiness. This can't be with the current model of the world as it is of violence and hate, so there would have to be some cataclysmic event to cause this to possibly be able to come to pass. With that being said there is the chance that maybe the 12th is that event and the 21st could be a rebuilding and re foundation for our race. Tying in a religious feel of our time, most religions hint at an end of days which leads into eternal heaven. This is not just in one but many hint at this essential truth. Could they be describing what is to come to pass with what the ancient civilizations dated. If you can believe that the ancient civilizations dates why not their prophecy. If translated metaphorically this could point to a similar scenario as that of the golden age, where the reaping of the world, ends with the eternal heaven aka golden days you describe. But an end of days must come before the golden age could possibly ever begin for the world is to diverse and at arms in today's present age. And diversities like this couldn't possibly be sorted out through conversation as many people are to vain to abandon their views or admit faults. Just some food for thought.

The way I look at it is no one knows when the world is going to end. But there are "predictions" however, many people are scared of the ending of the world, no one should be, but you should dream as if you'll live forever and live as if you'll die today.

OK, for one who knows who's God is the one? How do we know there is any Gods? Everyone is so held up on talking about their God and pushing it on others that they don't even live their lives. If there is a God, I'm sure he wouldn't want us all dreading about his death or when hes coming back or when the earth is going to come to an end. Live your life. Just Googled "world-end" as I had a few recurring dreams about the date in question. I sense something big will happen, but to what that might be, I have no idea. I think an onset of a huge viral pandemic will probably be the main cause (ala Resident Evil) but that would be my worst case scenario. And for example by accident or what ever if you die tomorrow the world and life is ended for you. Yes of course that life in planet Earth will come to an end, but we are nowhere near. We are not even near the end of human race either. The survivors will live in precarious conditions probably. But not all the human race will die at the same time, it simply wont. The day that our closest star, the sun, runs out of fuel life on Earth will certainly vanish, until then Earth still has probably a couple of billion years more of life. What is the point of worrying so much about the end of the world. There is nothing we can do about it. However, how we treat Earth as humans we can certainly do something about. We must develop strong environmental awareness campaigns since it is a fact that global warming is occurring a a really fast rate and the poles are melting, the land will be flooded and the resources will be diminished. It is ironic how medicine will kill us back. The Earth has a population capacity and we definitely already exceeded it, therefore the universal system God created is so perfect that our cure became our disease. A complex cause effect scenario of humanity, which different from all other animals in Earth was given something that to all other animals was denied, choice. We might have greater intelligence than the rest of the species on Earth, but in the end the greatest uniqueness we have is again choice. We, humans, choose to be selfish and we use our superior intelligence to try to beat the universal system. The truth is that we believe that we are more intelligent than we actually are. We only chose to believe what we understand and deny everything else that is simply not meant to be understood by our incapable minds. We were given certain amount of intelligence which is greater than the rest of the animals. If so, then why is it so difficult to believe that there exist another species or intelligence grater than ours. It is perfectly possible but the universe is simply too huge to travel in a lifetime or simply existing technologies are simply not so developed. We don't have the same senses as animals. Some animals have senses that we cannot understand because we don't have them. crocodiles for example that can detect movement in the water many meters away from its body. There must be other senses that we simply don't have. The sense that humans were given was choice, therefore lets choose not to continue being a plague, at least individually. This way at least our next four generations wont have to suffer a horrible world full of diseases, scarcity of resources, and less tragic natural events. A great percentage of the population will be wiped out and the rest will live in horrible, precarious conditions. Population size will become greatly reduced, but life on Earth wont die until at least a couple billion years more when the Sun cools up and burns out. Meanwhile we still have an asset that might be a deadly weapon against ourselves or could also be our cure, choice. Choose wisely.

Well first off the Mayan calender does not stop or end on Dec 21st it restarts. There are many different theories about how the world could end. Like the regulars of zombies and Armageddon. I read a reply that talked about the room of mirrors, and what she said about looking at ourselves and fixing us before we can fix the world is a good point but what if the room of mirrors was not to show us that we need to fix ourselves but in fact to show us that we are the problem. It's amazing how much we take the world for granted, considering it would only take a week for plant life to grow over the whole of the earth with us gone. I know my husband wouldn't stop talking about the Mayan Calender since I met him 8 years ago. I didn't know anything about it until this movie "2012" came out. Seriously, it freaks me out. I'm a Mother of four. A four year old, two year old twins and a three Month old. My three month old will be three when this all goes down. I didn't want children because of the fact that the world is crazy. I didn't want them to go through a life that I had. Now I'm regretting having children and having them experience something like this, if it is to happen. I see people going back and forth about the year 2000, this is something totally different then New Years of 2000. This is with our hemisphere, nothing to do with computers and time or date changes going wrong. It's with the Mayan Calender ending on 12-21-12. It just stops. They never went on making it continue or anything as some of you are saying as well. I'm not sure what to believe. All I'm hoping is that my children get to see their children, so on and and so forth. I love my children to death and to see something like this just take them away from me is something I wouldn't want to see just before I pass away.

I find it strange that everyone wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die. The end of anyone's life is never certain. The people who leave comments on here talk like they all are going to live that long to see it. We might die before then. Truth is no one knows anything. All of life's predictions are just that. In this fast paced world we forget that we are human. And we will, as we always have been, be susceptible to the earth and what it goes through. And why waste so much of your time worrying about something that may or may not be true. If there is a time as good as any it would be now to live your life. Take from this what you want. But try and love. Spend time with your family, help a friend, spend time with your kids instead of putting them in front of that television every night. And don't be scared about what may happen. Hi, i do not believe this stuff about 2012. it can't be true, if they said that the world would end in 2000 and we are still here 9 years later then it will not happen, there is no way that something made 500,000 years ago will ever happen. They made dates which happened many years ago and we are still here many years later. Around 2011 and late 2012, people on streets will start falling down randomly due to lack of life force present on this planet. Any form of life depends on Ki, life force, that is naturally received from the previous generations. I think it is possible that we will have a dramatic shift of the plates and our world as we know it will be very different. Folks that have deep religious beliefs will stay put and possibly die. Others will adapt and overcome. It's hard to predict when this will happen, but life forms will continue to inhabit the earth in some form. I fear that religion will kill us all before this happens. I would like to think that the world will end by natural causes or alien invasion. The thought that we will kill ourselves is the most disturbing.

Everyone seems so worried about whats going to happen on 21/12/12. Truly we should be worried, but at the same time we should start focusing on doing the right thing. Because we all know that sooner or later everything is going to end. I am 13 and I am not afraid of dying period. Not tomorrow, and not the next day, and not on 12,12,12. I have recently, just started, to pray, and started thinking about my actions, and putting people before me. I'm a juggalo, if you guys know what it is. It's about finding individuality. I have a few things to say. I'm only 12 and I'll be 15 on that day. I won't even have the chance to drive, have a sweet sixteen party or do anything. By reading these comments I'm on the "the world won't end that day" side. I might be only 12, but I'm really smart. Don't worry about the world ending, what happened to the oh gosh, the world is going to end in 2000? I mean really people. Are we that smart to know when the world will end and how it will end? How are we to believe the Mayan calander? I mean seriously what is a calendar? It's a way to count the days, and if I'm not mistaken didn't Julius Ceaser himself remake the calendar, several hundred years after it was made to begin with. I mean seriously how hard would it be for one person to make a theory and get followers. History has proven it self time and again, that it only takes one person to start a movement. I'm not so sure about this theory. It's quite hard to make an opinion, but even if its true about the world ending it's nothing for you to fear. I mean, how is that going to help? On some levels, I believe this and on others, I do not. There are so many different possibilities of what could happen. Before all of this 2012 "hullabaloo," my science teacher explained to the class that there are still billions of years in Earth's future and that the world will end when the Earth finally gets too close to the sun and burns up. The 'Greys' work for the Reptilians in a sense. Although the Reptilians are bad, the other classifications of Aliens are known to be gentle. They are intelligent, and are more interested in humans than anything. I have read that Aliens are intrigued by the Humans capability of having emotions. The concept of 'love' interests them. The Ataiens resemble 6' praying mantis's. Although they look intimidating, they are quite gentle. They move quickly and jerkily, but they cause no threat to the human race. I think about 2012 a lot, and what is actually going to happen. The answer is, nobody knows. You can ask all the questions you want, but nobody will ever have a solid answer. I always knew there was more to life.

I'm confused why everyone is so scared. Think about it. The world can't get any worse than us as humans have allowed it to become already. Let the Aliens come. Welcome them. Let them help us. We need the help. More of us need to understand that the way we have organized things is not the best way. When 2012 comes, a better way of life is coming too. The world we know will end. But not the world itself. People of each individual religion believe that the religion they follow is the one and only true religion. And will do what they can to persuade others to believe the same. And yet every country seems to have a different perspective and specific name for our creator. The Bible speaks in metaphors as far as what happened in the old testament. But maybe we have only noticed the obvious ones. Who's to say the devil himself isn't a metaphor? Our way of justifying the difference between good and evil when really they are just points of view. People we believe to be criminals are labeled as evil all the time. And yet most of the accusers have no idea what type of life those individuals have had. The bible says that God got so angry with individuals on the earth that he flooded it. If that was his doing then technically he killed those individuals. Does that make him evil? Does that make him a murderer of course, not. But the world ended as they knew it. If we believe that God created everything and knows everything, then why not believe he has a purpose for everything. God sent Jesus down to earth to form a group of people to carry out tasks and to tell those in authority that they had abused their power. But because they had a physical crown, weapon, or army at their disposal they believed the only ones they had to answer to was themselves. So they crucified him, and as powerful as he was, he knew at that time that his purpose was not to stop them but to give them the opportunity to correct themselves. And to this day police officers, judges, social workers, and other authority figures continue to believe that because they have a physical badge, degree, or weapon at their disposal they are only required to answer to themselves. Schools are no longer allowed to say the pledge of allegiance. Freedom of speech seems to no longer publicly exist, people have even been arrested for teaching biblical practices. Everything the bible said would happen is happening and will continue to happen. People talk all the time of the day Jesus left. But the truth is he didn't leave. And it's those of us that believe that who will hear him. And no specific religion you label yourself with, nor scientific method you stand by will justify what you are to our creator and what your purpose is in this world. It is said that when Jesus reveals himself he will destroy the world as we know it with his angels of fire. But for those of us who have observed and experienced the brutality, selfishness, and deceitfulness of the system run by those in power and despite the rage inside of us have managed to survive and get by and continue to see the system for what it is, and despite what we may have done, been accused of, or have been labeled as by individuals among us. Who is to say that we ourselves are not his angels of fire? So although I do not believe there is a specified date, I do believe that the world as we know it will end soon.

Wow, I personally do not think it will end that soon, but you never know. Because in the past, think of how many times people have said the world will come to an end in 1900, 1700, even in the year 2000 people said that we will all die. They probably estimated those dates through their knowledge and technology, that made them think that. But then again we may all be dead and gone in 2012 years, or we may all laugh about this in the future.

I just think one day because the U.S. has to be in control over everything that one of countries is gonna nuke us and that will be the end. The world won't end. We will destroy ourselves.

I'm 11 right now and part of me thinks that the world will end on December 21, 2012, and the other part of me thinks the world will not end on that particular date. Well people shouldn't worry to much because maybe, that particular date may not happen. Because that date might just be a mistake. But if its honestly true then we need to live our life the fullest before that specific time happens.

Many people in my school believe that the world will end in the year 2012. However some people believe that the world can't end until we graduate. As for my opinion I believe that no one knows the exact day of the world's end. Maybe the Mayan's never finished their calendar, maybe they were tired of chiseling the dates into the leaflets of maybe rock, ore, wood or writing on paper. Who knows. I for one am going to live my life the best I can and hope the world doesn't end in 2012. But if it does, so be it.

Wow, This was so in depth and by using the Harry Potter example makes it relate to a kid like me. I'm 12 years old. I believe in the Golden Age and I'm staying up all night on December 21st 2012. What we all expect is something horrible like eternal torture or something but really we all have to look at the fact that when one door closes another door opens. For example with death everyone is so freaked out about it when no one really knows what happens. It's just that we are leaving our comfort zones which frightens people. So of course, people are frightened by death. Same thing with 2012, no one knows what will happen, It's just the end of the Mayan calendar, and personally I believe in it but there's no jumping up and down in fright needed. As in Harry Potter, Harry is constantly telling Ron and Hermione that "Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself," when referring to Voldemort. Therefore what is all the hype about? When it comes, it comes.

It was an quite fascinating and interesting thing when I came across this issue, but when things have been predicted way back to millions of years and their data are still being investigated, amazing facts comes out. But having said that given the conditions and situation prevailing across the globe we might have to think about matters in different ways. Who knows any thing might happen after all we are human and are controlled by mother nature irrespective of what we might have for technology. Its Nature who plays and we have to accept. 

Well my theory of it all is simple. For one the stages that were now in had rapidly developed fast over the last century. But as for these prediction, yes the Mayans were very intelligent, but their facts were simple facts and everything they studied was in a simple form that continued over and over. When this was created, the only reserved of how long their existence with what could be the end, but can't be proven because the facts were on stuff they kept record, that continued to happen everyday. If we were to die by religion, of course it would be disease but at the same time that epidemic is also false since we have developed and study medicine everyday and have found medical miracles everyday. The only true way of our demise is through our own self infliction which will destroy us from within. We control our destiny and our daily life. We are the disease.

OK so the Mayan thing is dumb yeah they were pretty good with time and the planets but they also thought that the gods would kill them if they didn't cut out the hearts of people as a sacrifice, and the sun would explode or something. Also the only legit scientific purpose for the world ending in 2012 is that the planets will all align on Dec. 21, which is true they will, just like they do every year on the 21st. Everyone likes to leave that out because they are making a Hollywood movie and they want you to go see it so they can make tons of money.

Does anyone realize that time and calenders are man made so really 2012 doesn't exist. Anyway the year 2012 on earth has gone. Earth is around 4 billion years old. It's just stupid that people actually believe this.

Look I truly know time is short in this hostile world we live in. I am taking my family and my loved ones to a remote place in the USA very out of the way building a livable underground shelter that is good for 2 years. I am also building my own home above ground. We are 100% ready from A to Z and have spent 3 years building and supplying. I invested my entire 450,000 in this project. We will live on into a new world once all the scum is gone. The government could careless. It's up to you to survive and carry on. The US government will probably be the major cause of the end, plan hard work hard and love your family. My entire family 4 kids 4 grand kids all there spouses and my wife have built a underground shelter that is 2000 sq feet, sleeps 14, air filters, medical, food, clothing, fuel, water, energy, and weapons, and 20000 rounds of ammo, with 3 foot concrete walls, with a 4 foot thick roof, air tight vents, and all the electronics we need start. Now it will be to late after 2011 to start.

I'm so scared that the world is going to end in 2012, that is not far away, I guess I'm more scared of dieing then I am of the world ending, and if it does end in 2012 I would pray to which ever God there is out there that I'm with my family and were all together. Because if we are going to die, I would like to be surrounded by the people I love so very very much. I think dieing is inevitable. It is going to happen to everyone sometime, but I guess the thought of not knowing what will happen after I die is the real scary factor. I don't Want to die. I'm too young I have my whole life ahead of me. But hopefully everything is going to be normal that day and my question is: why do we let the media scare us? Think about it, if we didn't have media we wouldn't even think of anything like this. I'm not scared. I'm worried because of the media and their facts.

You see, things will always end no matter what. Marriages of in death do us part, meaning when I die, we are over, ended, gone, never to be again. My brother and I have been reading this site for the past few minutes. I cried because I laughed so hard. The world will not end, nor will you die. Chill. Drink a beer or two. Earth is not going to magically collapse or what have you. This day will be like any other, except everyone who believes this will adapt to some other religion that supposedly will save their life later on. On this day, I'm going to be on Christmas break from school, likely watching Scrubs or Glee. Oh ya, live large.

OK I'm a little confused about the whole thing. I find it strange that people from completely separate worlds could come up with the same date without ever coming in any form of contact. I think that the end of the world will be a renewal of everything that ever was and that there will be nothing left. Don't get me wrong, I truly believe that God is the only way granted I don't believe in organized religion or that people feel the need to take advantage of it like they do. I find it to be a strong possibility that this could happen. I find it easy to study a lot of religions and form a common ground and connect the dots. God won't save us from the world issues or anything like that. It's not his job he gave us the right of choice, and I think that we as humans misunderstand that thinking he will fix every little thing that is wrong in today's society. I am in the tenth grade.

The Mayans told of 5 periods of human dominance, each lasting many thousands of years, known as the 'suns of mankind', or 'days of mankind'. There were to be only 5, and we are now near the end of the fifth and final period, which ends on 21st Dec 2012. Interestingly, worryingly, the 4th age/sun/day of mankind ended with a global flood. I'm not some hippy freak bible basher, but I do like to think I am broad-minded, and as such I do wonder just why the Mayans believed this, and why they saw no point in calculating their calendar past this date. I don't know what to expect, if anything, but I think it would be sensible not to simply dismiss this as rubbish. The world itself won't end. It's old enough to look after itself, but our continued dominance of the planet could be in question and civilization as we know it could be in serious danger at the hands of some as yet unpredicted natural disaster. Think of the dinosaurs, and remember they spanned a period extending to hundreds of millions of years with untold numbers of species, not our pathetic 2 to 3 million. And yet they were all wiped out.

I do not believe that the world will come to an end on December 21, 2012. I have just turned 16, and I am a full believer of God. I am christian and no ancient Indian civilization can predict something that big. God has a plan, the world could come to a end tomorrow, we just don't know. The Mayan calendar ends in 2012, that doesn't mean the world will end just because they ran out of dates. I am not going to worry about this because I know God has a plan for all of us and if it ends then it ends. And last time I checked the Mayans were no God.

Me, I don't think that the world is going to end to be frankly honest. I think just some major natural disasters are going to happen. Just because the Mayan calendar ends then doesn't mean the world is going to end. That means people just think the world will end. I doubt it.

Well I think that a lot of people are really scared and why not let them wonder and there minds wonder. I think that science will over come it and that our magnetic field will some day fall and then when the sun rises to the earth we will be just like mercury and be a big ball of fire. OK, everyone thinks the world is going to end, but its not. The Mayans never said the world will end. They said the world will end as we know it. This can mean many different things. We can end up going into the future where the world will have many natural disasters or anything. But it does not mean that all of humanity will cease to exist. I am completely sure that the world is not going to end on 21 Dec 2012. According to the Holy Quran the day of judgment will take place after Eisa bin Maryam (Jesus) come down to earth and preach the true religion. God the one and only, God the Eternal, absolute; He beget not, non is He begotten; and there is none like unto him, to the whole humanity. And when the war against the evil ones come and after his natural death, at least 40 to 80 years after the day of judgment occurs. The exact time, date, and year is known to Allah only. May Allah guide us towards the right path.

Look, I don't believe the world will end, at least not in 2012. I mean, of course it will end, everything does, but your all freaking out about a "prediction" that people made hundreds of years ago. Really, how do any of us know they were predicting the end, we don't. It is just a bunch of superstitious people spreading unnecessary panic into peoples ears. What if the Mayans just thought, "hey, we made a calender that lasts till 2012, I think we can stop now. I'm sure people will get the gist of this thing by then." None of us were there and none of us know why they stopped the calender on that date. It could have been the day they thought the "gods" would come to earth for all we know. The only thing these thoughts of the end of the world are going to bring is mass hysteria and chaos for all.

It seems to me that everyone is forgetting the prophecy in the bible, what is to come, and is. Jesus is coming back but only the Father in heaven knows when, in his own good time. Repent now or suffer the consequences of the anti-christ which is to come, whosoever does not have the mark of the devil cannot buy sell trade, or even give away. The world will not end because of several incidents. They say,"the worlds gonna end," but are we dead? The answer is no .I can remember Y2k and when Steven Hawkings released his new invention which people said when he pressed the button it will cause the earth to collapse but we are still here people, and we cant just wont put up with religions and science says, "The earths gonna end," and scaring everyone. But they have brought a movie out of 2012 which a high population of people are increasingly getting frightened and scared about. This end of the world none sense should stop because they are just going to do it again and again as they are now. Yes the world will someday end and I would bet that it will end unpredictably but my guess is that it will not end in the next 100 years.

There is a book that outlines in great detail what we will see in the next several years. There will be great changes in the earth, politically, etc. There will be a joining of all world religions, but not believers in the Jewish Messiah (Jesus- Yashua)or the Jewish people who serve YHWH. These people will actually be blamed for the troubles and will be violently persecuted. The prophecies state very clearly that those who will not join this one-world religion, or worship the world leader who will be in place, will be beheaded, and a mark will be put on those who do accept the world religion so that they can buy and sell. The prophecy says that there will be a major war in the middle east with several countries moving to annihilate Israel. This attempt will fail due to a cosmic intervention. This intervention will then usher in a thousand years of peace and be the time when the earth will be regenerated. The prophecy states that the move for world peace prior to this and during the great chaos on the earth will actually be a counterfeit and many will be decieved, believing that the Man claiming to be god and making people take his mark is the one who is going to save them. He will then turn on the people of the world and unleash great misery on those who worship and follow him. The battle is definately spiritual, a battle for the souls of men. Evil and good. There are those who say evil doesn't exist. But as these days are barreling down on us even now, the presence of unspeakable evil will become very evident. Ironically, the one group of people who will be tortured and killed will be the one group who will be trying to tell people the Truth.

Let's pray that our world will survive on December 21, 2012. We do not believe that our world will end. But we believe in God. OK, the world is not going to end in 2012. Why do you guys and gals just live life and not worry about when the world will end. You'll be wasting it, you live a worried life about "2012" you can believe it or not, but I think its not going to happen. I'm just a student so I'm just leaving a point.

I disagree on the world ending in 2012 this was said in 2006 but did it happen. I also don't feel you should talk about it. Leave your predictions to your self. I mean ancients say one thing but they are humans and only Jesus knows.

Personally, I am quite scared that the world is going to end in 2012. I am young. I am 15 years old and want to live past the age of 18. I want to experience college. I want to experience having my first job, getting married, having children, buying my first home.. spoiling my grandchildren. What I don't understand is why we all have to stress about this now. If the world is going to end, it's going to end. If we can't change when that will happen, then there is inevitably no reason to stress about it. I have faith in a higher power. I have faith in Jesus. And I suggest that if you don't want to live an eternal life in happiness, you should trust that he knows what is best for you. I am trying to keep this in mind while contemplating this "world ending theory." For now, let's just try not to stress about it. The world may not be wonderful, but hey, we're still living, right? Stop with all the God, Jesus, religious stuff, Einstein is man, etc. If we die, we die, at least we are here to see it. Yes scary, but kind of exciting.

Well if the world was going to end people wouldn't be recycling and trying to make the world a better place. They would just give up. The movie "2012" is nonsense. The world will probably end in a billion years. But right now, It's just the beginning. Oh, and how the calendar stops at December 21st, 2012 well that doesn't mean the world is going to end. It could mean a lot of things like, something good will happen or something like that. Yes our world is being destroyed by humans, but people now are trying to make it better. They are planting trees, they are saving water, they are doing all these kinds of things. So just believe in yourself or something don't listen to what people are saying. They don't know what is going to happen to earth yet. I mean humans are very smart but predicting that the world will end 2012? That is just a little crazy.

I think this could be true base on the Mayan's calender. But I think nobody realize that it is not coming from outer space or the universe. I think it is coming from here on our own planet Earth. Has anyone heard of the Large Hadron Collider? This Large Hadron Collider experiment was intended to test various predictions of high-energy physics to see how our universe was created. Maybe something will go wrong with this experiment and it will end the world on that day or maybe Jesus Christ is coming back. Who knows, only God knows.

Half of the world will be in the time zone for December 21 2012 first. So does that mean they die first? No it means it is not going to happen.

I believe that if the world really is going to end in 2012 it will be caused by human hands and not just any it will be by the American people. And many of us who read the bible and such know that if all of us came together and stop the madness of war, hate, global warming, lack of care, and self respect, if we can just stop for a moment and think hey what will my forefathers think, or hey what is the result of what we are doing now because in reality my generation is going to have to clean up your mess if we are still here by the time i turn 25. OK, so the article has got a lot of things wrong. For one thing the Mayan calender doesn't end on December 21 2012. If you had done any research you would know the Mayan calender simply restarts on 12-21-2012. And another thing is that our calender today is by the life and death of Jesus, and the Mayan calender goes from stars and stuff like that so even if the Mayan calender predicts things are going to happen they aren't on the right dates. Plus the planets alignment is definitely, scientifically proven to happen that day and it will flip our poles and gravitation but it wont change so much that every one will die, humans will adapt. Also there is planet X which is supposed to crash into earth on 2012 but it is out side of Pluto and will take thousands upon thousands of years to get here, and scientist have discovered it will be close enough to be between the earth and our moon but it is only about 20 miles wide and wont hit earth. In the year 2000 the world was supposed to end so people committed suicide and guess what its 2009 and I'm alive and so are you. So I'm guessing the world didn't end and while I'm on the subject how about the fact that the world will end in 2016 also, so if the world is going to end in 2012 how will it be there to end in 2016. I hope I have some of you convinced not to worry about 2012. If it happens, it happens and we all die but chances are it wont. By the way even though it is against the odds I believe it will end because I look at the glass as half empty. The movie 2012 just came out yesterday so go see it and see what isn't going to happen if the world does end. It will either be very sudden or take place over months or even years. It's not like the world is going to catch on fire and slowly disintegrate.

First off, nice site, you've all helped me with my coursework. But the Mayan's weren't just clever people, they were "guided spiritually" and most spiritual people claim that only God knows when the world would end. So which one is correct? Also, people having dreams about this date, could that not be cause you're thinking about it so much its on your mind? Its like Flash Forward. You haven't prophesied the future, you've just been dreaming about an interesting topic. I can see something big happening on that date merely because a few natural things could take place in that time. Polar shifts causing natural disasters seem a possibility. World War three is also a point to consider, but it could also be one leader of a country who buys into the doomsday theory and feels why not, so lets off a nuclear weapon, which if its true, the Mayans destroyed the world by putting the rubbish into the guys head. In my opinion, it would be nice to see a new Golden Age, but if were talking about mass murder or a cataclysm I don't think it would be likely. I read a point earlier saying the Mayans believed the sun was a God and offered tribute to it, so how clever could they really have been? I could say, "oh the world will end in 50 years because I marked it on my calendar." It doesn't make it true though does it? Just enjoy now and don't worry, what happens will happen.

I think this end of the world talk is non-sense. How many times has the world "ended" and re-born. I mean come on we are in total economic ruin right now but we will bounce back. If all the wars have not ended our world I doubt God himself is going to allow it or much less cause it to end. It is all scientific reasoning and scientists aren't always right. Even though we hear about their discoveries you notice they never tell us about their mistakes. No one is perfect and every one makes mistakes. So how do we know this prediction is not just another mistake or just some kind of way for someone to make a laughing stock out of everyone who believes it. Come on people you can decide your own life. Why let some one else try to scare you in to following them. Take a stand be a leader and prove that you don't believe everything you hear.

I think its a bit weird that everyone seems to want the world to end. Like, some people I know are all excited and talking about sharing a bomb shelter or something together for when the meteorites start falling. Sounds like a complete load of garbage to me. I think we'll survive. I just hope that things change for the better, and not for the complete destruction of humanity. Guess we'll just have to find out.

In fact the Mayan calender does not actually end on 21,2012, they give major references until at least 2055 or something. The myths about solar flares, meteoroids and so on are on predictions created by a few scientists. The Mayans believe that there will be a celebration of some kind, to a small ending and a new beginning, which does not mean the end of the world.

OK, well first off I'd like to say this is a great write up, really interesting stuff here. Now I'm not one of those advanced students or super smart people in schools, but I do a lot of reading. I understand its in calendars and such, but let me ask you all a question, who thinks that the world actually will end? Do you think the world will end 2012? Is it possible that the world can end tonight at midnight or tomorrow at 1:29 or Thursday at 3:26.59? No you do not know that, the truth is you can not tell when the world will end. It ends when it ends if you believe in God your time will come when the big man wants you. For those of you who are not religious, can you really predict the future? Can you sit there and tell me hard facts and show evidence that it is going to end? There is no reason to get sad, worried, or nervous if the world will end in 2012 because any one can die at any given time. You who are reading this could blow up into a million pieces in an hour, or the next person reading this can grow wings and fly to the sun and burn to death. You can't tell what will happen. Just live your life and don't let anything hold you back from what you want to do, or where you want to go in the future 2012. In my opinion it is just another date to look forward to as another year of life lived. We can all die tomorrow and not make it to the date to see if the world truly ends even if it does don't you think we will all be dead and wont even be able to prove that it ended? If your are dead, your dead anyway that is my point of view take it how you want, and for people reading this I'm not intending to scare you or anything about death, but its just examples I mean no harm to anyone so please forget about the scare factor just live your life how you want to make it and how you want it to turnout. If I remember correctly, the planets were also in alignment with the earth back in 1982, and it was predicted that the world would end at that time also. I was 16 and very scared; the day passed by uneventfully.

It is sad to think that the earth will finally meet it's final destination, including us, if it is really true. But I still believe that movies like this are created to show human kind or to warn us about nature's revenged. If it is Allah's will, then there's nothing we can do about this chaos. But somehow, praying helps. It was stated in the Quran that all living things will eventually die. No one can escape death.

Hello friends, don't worry about 2012. It is far from 2009. It is good to motivate ourselves all the time and think about the present, enjoy life to the fullest. No one knows the future. If we would have known, then we'll be the God. So, the one and only one who is responsible for all these creations and destruction is just God. So, guys have faith in God and believe in him truly. He knows what needs to be done with all of us as we are all his children. I believe something completely different. I believe that there is no God or Satan nor is there a heaven or earth. I am 14, and I have put many years of thought into this and came up with a theory. There is no God or heaven nor a Satan or hell but there is a earth. That is it, earth. And when we die we go to another side of the earth, no not Asia or America, but a side we can not see, a spiritual side. But there is no such thing as this spirit. It is your thought and your consciousness that exists. The body you are reading this with right now is a temporary holder, container, book if you will. You are probably thinking "book? What is he talking about? But you see you are using this chance in your body or book to learn about what the world is like and where things are so that when you lose your body, or once again book you know what things are like and where they are. Where do you go after your body is used up? Well you stay not as a reincarnation but as a consciousness. This is where that voice in your head comes from. It is a deceased who was destined to help you. Because she or he was either close or destined to meet you in body. Where did you come from? Well when to body forms a peace of their consciousness is put into his or her body. Is there a destiny? Are we meant to do something in our life? Well I would say yes but a consciousness is one and self so no there is no destiny. We do what we do. Have a good one and if you believe something then don't believe because I said so just keep believing.

Many scientist from all corners of the world have proposed many theories of how the world will end. But many of these are really frightening. Like one say's that in 21st Dec 2012, all the planets and Sun will come in a line which will affect the earth's magnetic field. Imagine, only moon's gravity and affect the world causing high tides and low tides, then what will all of us on the planet do? Many theories are out there many say they are foolproof. I'm from Pakistan. I am a Muslim and a university student. I don't believe on ending of the world on December 21, 2012. Because only God knows when will be the Dooms day such like that the time of death of any person is only known by the God. Dooms day will not come before, unless Dajjal a devil with one eye will appear and will claim that he is god, but in actuality he will not, than Jesus will come and defeat and kill Dajjal and then he will rule the world for 40 years. After it Dooms day will come and on that day sun will rises from the west, all the living beings in the universe will die, and then by the order of God all the dead will rise from their graves and that day will be the judgment day. So don't worry about 21st Dec 2012 because only God knows the exact ending date of the universe.

Why must you believe in the end of the world and not see into the future and only see something good shall come your way and in the ever lasting words of spock "live long and prosper." Please don't spend all your time worrying about nothing. All the theories that I have heard are all hog wash. I have seen reports of people talking to an actual Mayan priest saying that the calender was misinterpreted and the date of December 12 2012 is the mark for a new beginning.

It's a nice article. But, seriously, I think the Mayans would have kept writing but they ran out of stone to carve one. Why do we all have to be freaked out about the end of the world just because the Mayans ran out of rock. Really? But the train thing is interesting. The earth has been here for millions of years before us, and will be here for millions of years after us. We are not causing global warming its a natural cycle. The earth doesn't even know we are here. 2012 is something for us as humans to think and ponder about, our brains need something to think about that doesn't have an answer at the time. If we had answers to every question, there would be no reason to live. Therefore the fact that we are questioning 2012 means that we will be around well past that date, great news for all you leafs fans, you might actually see them win the cup. Humans have created their own illusions. We fail to see what is really there in front of us. Believe what you will, let the fear overtake you. But know one thing, life isn't always what is seems.

I believe that all of this is very logical but no one man can tell the future and will not ever know when the world will end. So only to wait is all we are able to do at the moment and wait for the end. I don't believe in any predictions. They all have flaw. The flaw is: human. We are not perfect.

I don't think anyone should worry because what ever is going to happen is going to happen it is all faith, and if the world ends we all die so its okay were not leaving anyone behind that we love.

I believe that the prophecy is correct. As we all know, we are already experiencing different disasters. The end of our generation is near and it is inevitable. So we must now start to confess our sins and become a better person. Give importance to our nature and take care of it. Let us love one another and prepare for the upcoming era of the golden age.

I don't choose to say that the world will or will not come to an end. The Bible states that only God knows that information, but I do know one of the possible events, according to the Mayan Calendar, that will affect our planet is a massive solar flare that I have heard so much about. Solar Flares happen all the time of course and every so often we feel the effects when our cell phones, internet and TV's go on the fritz and we go on with the rest of our day really thinking nothing more about it. In the case of this massive flare it has been predicted by some that when it occurs, everything we use here on this planet from cell phones and computers to the security systems that keep us safe will go out. This includes anything that uses a GPS or any other system used to monitor ones progress. It is also said that this flare maybe enough to bring about cause and affect with our environment bring earthquakes and floods etc. To get to the point, I have learned over the years that life always finds a way in one form or another. If total destruction and chaos occur and if there are any survivors then we will simply be brought back to square one. A life without the technologies and ways of living that generations over the last 50, 60 years have become so accustomed to. If it is to be just another day then I think the date will act as a focal point for us. At a date that we set for ourselves to make those changes that we have been putting off till tomorrow and while not needing immediate attention are still so very important to be made both in our personal lives, but also with our family, our friends, the environment and the world in general. Some of us are already doing it with very little effort. I believe that more and more people will be offered the chances to experience that choice to make what was wrong right again as that date approaches. Either way, everyday 12-21-2012 will be looked at very differently as will our world through the eyes of us of anyone else that comes along. What happens in 2012, will happe. It could just be any other ordinary day, or it could be the end of the human race. Whatever happens, we can't change the future. It's far too late for that. But as our ecological system slowly crashes that point and onwards, there will be a massive extinction event of the human race. A polar reversal would have the same effect. Most of our technology depends on the magnetic poles. If it where to shift, that technology would completely shut down. Imagine the confusion: all radio signals would crash, armies and people around the world wouldn't be able to communicate with each other. Anything that was flying at the moment would crash. It would be a long term effect. We need to develop independent technology, or else we'd be in a age of confusion for a long time. A more scarier scenario would involve the earth's crust doing a 180 degree shift. More like the movie 2012. And yes, it is very possible, very real, and it has happened before. Yellow Stone Park would blow up America, and the ring of fire would go off. The earth would be covered in a thick blanket of ash and toxic gases. Hey, did I forget to mention the giant tidal waves that would occur? But all of this is just a hunch, unless my great, great ancestors, the Mayans, have anything else to say about it. So don't spend the rest of you're time worrying about it. Just live your life well. What you have left of it, that is.

I really don't like this prediction. First because I want to live my life to enjoy it but now I'm commenting because I'm also thankful because when people know about this prediction they will be afraid and they will change into good persons. They can change anything and prevent this end of the world. But as I observed nothing has changed people just think that it is just a story in a movie. They didn't know that it is a prediction that can come true for those people who will read this comment. I'm just a 12 year old student from the Philippines that is full of dreams. I dream to be a scientist, but I think I do not have time to fulfill my dreams. My dream is also to heal the world by disciplining all the people to teach them the right disposal of garbage and to teach them to recycle. I believe that this whole thing is fake. The Mayans said Jesus was going to come in the year 2000. I don't see any Jesus people. You are ten years late. I think that they got tired of making this so they stopped at 2012, such a coincidence. The move 2012 was not real and was just a money making film. You make cash off fake things. Did knowing come true? no its fake. Same with everything. How would the world come to an end at a certain period of time, and how would the Mayans know it? You would have to be some super time traveler. Anyway, what I am getting at, is that people make up stories. Everyone does it. This was there made up story. Its made up. Not coming true. So everyone just relax. Your not going to die.

The world is not going to end on 12-21-2012. Only God knows when the world is going to end, it could happen right now. Who really knows. Why do people sit around and make these stupid stories up? I graduate in May of 2012, I don't believe these stories, my Physical Science Teacher even said these stories are stupid, and he does not believe them. They said it was going to end in 2000,6-6-06, and 2008 plus 2012. My Mama told me that her great grandmother and grandparents told her the world was going to end in the 70's, or 80's, and look it hasn't happened yet so don't believe it.

Just for us as we get in to it in full it has a special meaning, and who passes through will go in to better times, times where we reflect more on our spiritual being and we will recognize that there is the real power, because with our spirit we are connected to the whole Universe. Once you understand the beauty and power of the spiritual realm, you understand what real power are. What today is rated as power, nothing else than just animal behavior within humans, who torture fellow humans. Is that God? No all what has be done under his name, was the work of the Devil who has deceived mankind and we have and still believe in his lies. That will be history, after that we will know how foolish we where within our beliefs. For the benefit of spirituality and mankind a great and needed cleaning is on the way.

According to Buddhism 2012 is not the end of the world. The world will exist at least another 2500 years. There can be a some disaster in 2012; like tsunami, earthquake, thunder storm etc. But it will not be a total disaster. So be cool and try to be good people by doing good things and that will help you to save your life, or if you died in 2012, that will help you to have a good rebirth.

You state "This date represents a galactic alignment seen only every 26000 years." False. There is no alignment with the center of the Galaxy in 2012 or any time. As to the Sun being in the center of the Galaxy, that is impossible; the Sun and solar system will always remain at about 30,000 light years from the galactic center. People rely too much on lies conjured up by those that truly believe such things. No scientist or anyone has yet to confirm such things backed up by factual evidence nor are the majority of the things you state fact because they aren't, they reside on conjured up beliefs. Coincidences are not evidence, and most of the coincidences mentioned here are conjured up by lies or false information that develop when a individual or a group read into something completely wrong. I've seen this done on a documentary regarding the Mayan civilization. Decorated images bearing volcano's and other natural disasters upon Mayan stone is read as "predictions". This is just an example of how a human mind will read into something, especially if the individual goes into something with a firm belief already established. I truly don't believe anything significant will happen on that date, 2012, because in all intents and purposes, there is no evidence what-so-ever to suggest that something will happen. you have got to learn something about the internet. It is a bit like a line of people whispering to one another. You start of with something like "Mary had a little lamb" and by the time it gets to the last person, its "Mary was a cross-dressing wolf". I think, well why do we live then die and its a cycle that keeps going and going and people wonder well the earth has been around for a long time but only the creator of all things is the answer? You do live and love every body including your mother and father and your close ones and live life every day and wake up and say today is a new day and be positive and happy about every thing if your in a bad time make the best of it. Nothing is going to end us or the planet for an extremely long time. You Christians are writing down all these things because you do not understand anything further than your book. If anything should happen it should be to abolish religions. Just look at what this planet is doing in the name of Jesus, the bible or God. Its sick. Stop scaring the youth. To all you youth, you need to question your faith more and more as we humans evolve. You can all think for yourselves. Stop believing so blindly what others tell you. The world is in a bit of a mess, so perhaps it could be the last of the last days, but apparently, if you believe in the bible, there is a lot of stuff to go down yet before end times. Anyway, there is no point in worrying about things that we can't change.

Seriously all need to chill nobody knows when world will finally fall apart, so relax and stop making a big deal just because some guy has predicted all the right things so far. The end of the world is way bigger than any other prediction you can think of.

I am a 15 years old, I believe that there will be a time when God, Jesus Christ, comes back or the Rapture, but the focus shouldn't be on the end but the now. Now is the time we should be worried about the time when the world needs him the most. I know that the world isn't going to end on December 21,2012 because the bible says specifically that man can't put a date on the end and even God himself doesn't even know. Hello all, I'm no scientist, and I haven't been doing crazy amounts of research, but I have been thinking about this a lot. Four years ago one of my little brothers friends came in and said, "hey did you know that the world is going to end in 2012?" I was a little freaked, I thought he was just kidding. I looked it up, and apparently lots of people had heard that too, because quite a few websites came up about it. I figured whatever this is all wrong. This past year they came out with the movie 2012. I gasped and was struggling for air when I saw the commercial during the previews when I went to see Transformers 2. I was thinking about it quite a lot. I have to say that I have enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts and comments on this. However I have to agree with the article, that none of us know what 12/21/12 is going to consist of. It could be nothing. It could be a really big something. Who knows besides God. I do have to say I'm strong in my faith, and when I began to fear this day it only brought me closer in my faith for fearing I would spend the rest of eternity away from him. Then I held my breath while the ball dropped and declared the world into 2010. Maybe we only have two years left to live, in which I will fall one year short from graduation, and 2 years short from legally being an adult. God created me, you, and the earth. He knows what's going to happen and he hasn't failed to provide and come through for us yet, so I'm trusting he will not fail to provide and be there for us on 2012. All is well. Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens Me.

Guardian, the world is due for another ice age did you forget that? And along with that Global Warming caused a cooling period. So yes the Earth will be getting colder as time goes on. Whether or not we're in for another ice age within the next couple thousand years, I'm not sure about.

Excellent article. I'm a 10th standard student, and I find this very interesting. Human being have been playing on their chances ever since their evolution. They have been exploiting resources and all. We were warned by the concerned authorities worldwide of such a day very soon in future. I don't mean that human being deserve this or not, but it had to happen. Well, another fact is that the world will be starting to get destroyed a little before December 21st, and the final impulse of destruction will be on December 21st, 2012 at 11:11 AM. I'm sorry, but I'm 12 years of age, and I'm bright and very clever, and I worked this out from about the age of 9. The world cant end on that day because most countries are either a day in front or day behind. So if the world was going to end, the countries in front would let us know so we can find a safe place underground to survive from the apparent "fire" that covers the earth and about three quarters of Britain would survive. Then all the other countries behind would obviously survive.

Let me point out an obvious fact that people don't seem to think about, how many people have started a project and decided to stop doing it after a while either because it didn't seem to matter or they got bored? The reason the calender could have ended might be because they got bored with writing a calender and never got around to finishing it. I mean writing a calender which is supposed to encompass all of time could be a tedious job after a while. Think about it, time never ends so that means if they kept going there would have to be some Mayan today still writing. Could be boring or seemingly pointless. Or maybe they were wiped out and that was the last day the wrote down before they died. But with the advances in science it seems pretty improbable that they are right. Natural disasters have always happened but the technology to report on every one did not even exist until recently. So when you watch the news and see all the floods and earthquakes and so on of course it seems like there are more because they are covered faster and reported almost instantly. Remember Achem's Razor, the simplest answer is usually the correct one. So which is more probable, an ancient civilization somehow predicting a future they cant see or possibly conceive. Or that they just stopped with the calender? My guess is the latter. We as a people tend to over think and analyze everything past the point it needs to be. To those who would use some random date to tie to a false apocalypse, shame on you. No one knows when they will naturally die or when the world will end. That is a fact.

How about all of the other significant events that the Mayans did not predicted. Saying at some point there will be a war is pretty vague. I predict that at some point in the next year Milwaukee, Wisconsin will see a temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Are people going to call me a prophet? No that is a random prediction anyone could make. So called psychics use this all the time. They make a vague comment that someone responds to and narrow it down until someone thinks they are real. The world ending as you know can happen everyday of your life. If you lose your job, someone dies, you get a divorce, etc. the world as you know it has changed and therefore the world as you know it has ended. I encourage everyone to read these "predictions" only for entertainment value. That is all they are worth. Don't let false prophets or anyone tell you what to believe. These people have zero credibility. They are not competent sources and certainly are not experts on the matter. They want to scare you. I'll be fine. You'll be fine.

I don't believe in it at all. No one knows when the world will end only God does. So, people need to stop feeding into the drama. Has anyone stopped to think maybe the Mayans all died after making their so called calender and never got to finish it? Give me a break. When it happens it'll happen. I believe God will tell all his children when its time to go and who knows the world could end tomorrow. Think about that.

I have three main ideas. The first, everyone knows that South Korea now has nuclear weaponry. I believe by human error, missiles will be launched, and may not be shot down in time, even if they are shot down, the radiation will seep into the ocean and kill many creatures. The second; I think we may collide with an enormous mass of mirror matter, and there will be a planetary cataclysm. Buildings will be leveled, and the oceans, dried out. My last is that it will be the same as Y2K. Everyone will just live their lives as they have been although there may be some changes in culture and the way people think by then. Although I am believing in these three, there are many more events that could happen.

My opinion is no the world won't end at 2012. And if you believe some stoned oracle or some well carved rock you are an idiot. There will be a nice quite day, and we will continue living for a good amount of time.

It's the start of a new cycle! Not the end of the world. And the planets align every 26,000 years. It's happened before. Stop worrying please. Remember humans are wired to stress and worry so that we stay aware of our surroundings. Remember most of the things you worry about never happen.

To me in December 2012 the end of the world is not going to come because one time my brother and I were talking, and he said that in the year 2060, about 50 years from now, Jesus is supposed to come and unite with the U.S. and some other country and fight the Devil. So if people, Christians believe that that is supposed to happen then the end of the world can't happen in 2012. It is supposed to be in 2060. Also I have another reason why the end of the world isn't going to happen in 2012. People used to say that the end of the world was going to end in 1999, 2000, and 2001, but that never happened. So, if it was going to be the end then it would have happened. I believe that this is just another stupid prediction that isn't going to happen. Those are the reasons why I think the end of the world isn't going to happen. But if the end of the world did happen in 2012 what would we do to protect ourselves?

2012 is a joke. Once again religion lies at fault here. Mayan's predict the end for us all, Christians believe the rapture will happen, and Scientologists think the mother ship will pick them up. Basically, it's more rumors that go by unchanging, and tend to leave quite the effervescent gloom. Y2K is the same deal. Christians cried thinking Jesus was coming, and people cowered in fear computers were going to cause a global holocaust. There's plenty of examples in the past to say 2012 is irrelevant to anyone or anything. Even people of the world today still make calendars. Now why would a Mayan calendar stop at 2012? Well why do our calendars stop after 1 year? Same concept. It's easy to add onto the next year round and even the Mayan's should have known 2012 was too far for even them. If they "predict" the end of the world they should have been able to predict their own extinction. It doesn't add up right. 2012 is a joke.

After looking at the data and listening to all the doomsday prognosticators, it appears that the only catastrophe that may take place on 12/21/12 would be the sun passing under the equator of the milky way. This has not happened in 26,000 years and since there is no data to back up what will happen when this event occurs, it appears that the poles may shift, causing global devastation. I have not even attempted to look at other posts on this site as I do not believe in "spiritualistic or apocalyptic" ends due to Jesus Christ, Mohammad or any of this other religious mumbo jumbo that I was brought up believing in my younger naive days, that make that point irrelevant in a "new world order". If the shifting of the poles is a realistic concept, I would suggest that everyone make peace with their friends and family and whoever they can without causing harm because this will cause the end of the world. If this is not the case, December 21, 2012 will come and go like any other day, and it will be like the hundreds of other doomsday predictions, bogus. I have been on this earth much longer than I ever thought I would be and what I have learned is that if people are treated with respect, they will treat others with respect, bottom line. If the end of the world is at hand, so be it. I look forward to the next life, and I will be looking forward to seeing the so called righteous people, as they will be in for a big shock in the after life.

Well folks after seeing the movie by John Cusack, I was really impressed no doubt about it but you know what I am a realist, and to me it is not possible. But as everything is finite no one can say for sure. I don't think its humanly possible to predict the end of the earth. I suggest you all watch the movie, nice action and food for thought.

Gentlemen we have nothing to fear unless you want to. It is all in our heads if you wish the world would end then it will end in your point of view. But the end the Mayans predicted was that of a new year a new start a fresh start. Believe what you may but for me I believe I will survive. I believe that through all the trials man kind has faced that there is nothing we cant handle. 

People please wake up its not going to end. Global warming is what you should be worried about. And also God is not real no one has seen a heaven or hell and how are you supposed to give him your soul when he isn't real and there is no evidence. In the Bible it says "The earth was created in six days" Absolutely impossible and dumb. If the world does end you will not be here to see it but wouldn't we love to be.

My idea on this whole prediction is that, earth is so minuscule to the rest of the universe, it is almost as if we do not exist in the first place. So what with the Earth being so small, and humans, being even yet smaller than that. How could a human or a group of humans predict the end of the world. All it is, is a guess, they predicted the world would end in 2000, because of Y2K, and it didn't even phase us. Some people freaked out, and panicked, just to look like an idiot the next day. For everyone paranoid about the events "said" to happen on December 21 2012, relax, because that is the exact goal, is to make you paranoid. Humans are irrelevant when it comes to the universe. We mean absolutely nothing in the greater scheme of things. There is no possible way of anyone predicting the end of the world. Sure it will happen one day, but humans are not going to be able to tell when this happens, until Moments before, if we are even here, not 5000 years before. Humans will most likely become extinct before we see the end of the world, just like the dinosaurs before us. Someone will see the end of the world I'm sure, weather they are human, alien, animal, or just simply bacteria. It will happen one day, but that day will not be the 21st of December 2012. So everyone trying to encourage this pathetic idea, is simply ignorant, and out to scare people with a weak heart. Earth has been around since before humans were even thought of, and will be here long after we are gone. This prophecy is nothing more than a non-humorous joke. In terms of religion, there are hundreds of them, such as there have been hundreds of prophecies. No one has proven their religion to be accurate, and many if not all never will, because many or all are incorrect, but the human mind will believe what it wants. There will be more and more prophecies to come, as I'm sure more and more people claim their religion is correct. People all you are is a large group of cells, one day you will expire or die. There is not a greater being out there that is going to take your soul, and take you to a better place, you will rot in the ground, and one day that ground being Earth will disappear. The world will not end in 2012, so don't freak out. The way I look at it, the Earth is "God" you are alive because of this planet, and you will die, on this planet, and once this planet dies, it will vanish, and there will be no memory of humans. Nothing, no souls, or bodies, everything will be gone. Religion is a lie, and so is this prophecy. That's the way it is. 

I do not think the world will come to a dramatic stopping, but I think that just because the Mayan calendar ended on 2012 doesn't mean that the world will end. This is just like the conspiracy theory of 6-6-06. We did not all die, we survived. But that is just my opinion.

Oddly enough, NASA is not predicting a solar cycle peak until 2014 or so, and as they have the satellites, I doubt that someone on earth knows better. The hype about solar cycles baffles me. As I read this article, I was confused when Mr. Koven begins assuming the idea of a global consciousness is familiar to everyone. Until I read articles on this site, the idea never occurred to me. Perhaps I wasn't tuned in to it, and am now becoming open to the idea. But I think not. So many cultures hold this date as a world end times, yet so many more do not. The approximately 1 billion people of India tend to agree with their Hindu faith that the world's end is not for millions of years. Isaac Newton, after an intense study of biblical literature, proposed 2060 as an end-times date. Nostradamus made predictions up until the year 3967, unless I am mistaken; I do remember the date being in the fourth millennium AD. The Classical Mayans themselves made predictions well into the second cycle of their Long Count Calendar, and prominent Maya historians say that the Mayans considered this event as much of a renewal as 2000 would have been, if not for Y2K threats. It was momentous to have such a cycle begin during your own lifetime, just as I will likely tell my grand-children about the year 2000. As for the topic of global consciousness, I am a firm Christian, and as such may well be considered biased. However, it is also my firm belief that analytical reasoning was given to us to be used. This is my logic: If we believe that 2012 is the end of the world, we will likely choose to start attempting to save ourselves. Such is human nature. If we don't believe that we must save ourselves, we can choose to turn our energies to helping others. Such is also human nature. Therefore, by believing that 2012 is not the end, we can live better lives in our remaining time. If there is a global consciousness telling us that 2012 is the end of the world, then our global consciousness may cause us to turn against each other in our rush to save ourselves. If 2012 is not the end, but renewal of our selves, a global consciousness can only be one of two things: An new active entity in our world, or a disappeared former state of being. Human nature is such that a global consciousness may cause us to deliberately choose our deaths for the good of humanity, something that would destroy individuality. If the global consciousness was banished, we are left with no ties to others, and therefore nothing earthly that connects us. We are either left with a cruel world of people who want their own success, a world with one individual, or an apocalypse that ends all. I believe it is imperative to live our lives for others. We must live as though our actions will matter beyond a date foretold by long lost nations. I believe quite firmly that the soul of each person exists apart. That causes war and evil. I also believe that each soul must find some way to connect with others and a larger world. To me, the only way to do that is faith. If 2012 is of any importance, we can only get through it by faith, because anything else will abolish either our selves, relationships, or planet. "Today has enough troubles, without worrying about tomorrow's." Amen.

By the way, the Mayan Calendar begins on 13.0.0.0.0 I may have missed a set of zeros. Any Mayan historian would tell you so. The date predicted for world's end is also 13.0.0.0.0. The Mayan Calendar didn't really end. Their prediction's translation is that "the world would be renewed." Not ending, but renewing according to Mayan literature. Who first said it would end, not renew, anyways?

I don't believe it. The bible says that no one will know when it happens. There has been hundreds of "end of days" predictions, and not one came true. As for the Mayan Calendar ending, the people probably died, that's probably why they didn't finish it, who knows? I will not believe in the 'end of the world' until it happens. Scientist are always wrong. also, they have not been able to 'disprove' the bible, or the Quran,etc. Until The Lord comes to claim his people, I will live everyday like I always do.

I'm not saying that this comment is fact or should be believed or trusted, I'm just going to state what I concluded. A major thing that humans are afraid of is death, after life is unknown, mysterious and frightening. People use faith to accept death as they see a existence beyond passing, no one wants to believe that when they die there is nothingness. I'm not saying that faith is a false belief or that it is bad, having faith people have done great things in uniting with each other and showing kindness. I would have to say that speaking of past events faith hasn't always been so kind. Now, we all know there are people on this planet who must achieve beyond everyone else, dominance is human nature, we are on top of the food chain for a reason. Power is what they seek and they need support to hold that power, fear is the best technique to control others into doing what an individual or group of persons desires. What better way than to come up with the possibility of certain death to make others conform to the ways that are expected for the success of a goal? When there is a bank robbery what do criminals often do? they take hostages, they can then progress their plan a bit further, making others conform to their plan. Perhaps this is only a hoax that is being implemented into a much bigger picture, perhaps the main goal is best for the future of humanity. It could be for good or for bad, but I see it for whatever reasons there may be, an attempt to make people follow a predetermined path. By using religion and faith and twisting it to make others confirm to it, not necessarily a bad thing, but it works. Perhaps it is to make more people united and to work as one. If I was wanting to gain supporters for ensured success towards a goal and I thought to myself how I could gain the most people the fastest way possible, then I looked at religion and seen the beliefs and how they worked, and I understood the fact that humanity is afraid of death hence seeing that most religions tell of an afterlife after death which would make death to be unwearied. Its the perfect plan, and perhaps the person(s) at the wheel will be punished for using religion for their own goals if they are for greed or power. Maybe I'm completely wrong, but it is easy to see this as probable, tell a tale of death that is near and get people to unite under faith out of their own fear. This would also mean we have a lot of people who follow to get saved from death but do not have faith in their hearts.

Solid article, I enjoyed it as well as others insights, but in my opinion I feel that people need to stop conveying or transferring so much faith into "God" or other deities and actually use such faith as motivation to take steps towards what they believe in. If you don't want the world to end, regardless of whether it may or may not, then take action to save yourself or prevent such occurrences. personally, I kind of want it to happen, simply because this world needs a refreshment, and clearing of all that has been conditioned, in order for a fresh start. As it is, nothing we have is permanent; it is all borrowed, your money, your homes, even your body is borrowed, nothing is promised. So why fear the end? It'll happen sooner or later. Make the best of what you have and what you are at this very moment. I'm only 15, but I feel fortunate to have what I have and be able to think the way I do.

I don't think the world is going to end in 2012. The only person that knows when and how it's going to end is God. I don't care what people say about it. I would just take that day as a regular day of my life. The earthquakes that you see coming suddenly are not warnings or signs that the world is going to end. God is just testing us to see if we will believe that crap. The world is going to keep existing like for the next five billion years. Also, we should help our earth if you want to keep living. We should not litter and we should not contaminate. Please recycle and find greener ways to live. Stupid people are the only ones that believe gossip and myths and stupid predictions. I believe that that all of you guys are a bunch of crazy people if you think that there is a such thing as "extraterrestrial beings" and also the sun is not going to burn out and we will not enter a new Renaissance. Also the world is not going to end any time soon and by the time it does end we would have found a new planet that humans can live on.

I think that the world will be there but all the human beings will for sure be dead, because one day it has to happen that humanity must come to an end and what after that no one knows. So if you are living today, live it to the fullest. We will all have to face this problem one day. We all have to die one day, so why be like that we are dying every day with this fear? I feel as though God has complete control as to when the world will end. The Mayans have had some serious predictions and just because the calender ended December 21, 2012 whose to say that it will be the end of the world? Maybe another calender just wasn't created. Let us think positive here. Everybody get your bible's out because that is where the truth lies. Science is a beautiful thing that is sometimes mistaken with the upper power. Many of the things that Nostradamus envisioned has come true, but I don't think people should worry themselves because tomorrow is not promised and who is to say that we will be alive anyway?

Hello all and good evening, I just wanted to say that you can predict whatever floats your boat, but in the end, morals, rationalism, and common sense will prevail. If God decides to end the world, or the human race for that matter, we will have no control over it. As for the Mayans, it could be they all died off without trying to finish the calendar. Either way, regardless of the numerous predictions, theories and such, there is no way of telling when the world will end. All you people that put your faith into science and scientists are just bullheaded like all the rest. No offense to anyone here. Just stating an opinion because it still is a free country. If you really think bout it, all the people in power now in America, whose to blame, them, no of course not, we are to blame because we put people in that position when we voted wanting them to change things for us and the world alike. Politics and even law enforcement is corrupt nowadays. No one is to blame except all of us. We put those people in that position thinking they would do good, and instead, it made things much worse. Regardless of whether the rapture comes or not, I will still have my faith in God when that day comes. I had a vivid dream in June 2001. Seven moons or suns, not sure. It was narrated to me in a male voice that these moons or suns will split in half and turn red then a bell will ring and the old black locomotive train will come. I was at a station and the train came, and I boarded it. Sounds nuts to me but my guess is the moons or suns splitting is to do with a calendar or time and a train could mean a different path coming. Maybe it has to do with 2012 predictions, maybe not, maybe it's just a dream and means nothing.

OK everyone who is talking about the Mayan Calender does not get what it means. It doesn't mean the world as we know it will end. It means that there will be a new beginning. This is supposed to be a celebration not a nightmare. With that being said, I hope no one believes in this 2012 stuff anymore. And live your life with happiness and not fear. Thank you for reading.

It may well bring a new beginning and a new era to us as people, but hey do you really think we are gone? What is a world without end? I honestly don't believe that the world will end in 2012. In my opinion I just think that something bad will take place. Maybe we'll end up going through another Great Depression again? Take a look at our economic situation. It's not just happening here in the states, it's happening with other countries too. With that getting worse every day, every month, every year, something horrible is bound to take place because of this. It may happen in 2012. Then again, these are just my thoughts. I am twenty years old and an atheist. I do not know what to think of 2012. I do not think the world is going to end. I believe that something amazing will happen. However I feel that this may be what I would like to believe. I feel that people will believe anything to make themselves feel better. This is why I feel torn, I am young and I want to grow old and live a long life. I believe that there are many things we do not know about or choose not to know about. I feel that the ancient people were much smarter then we are today, and they knew something about December 21, 2012, however for whatever reasons did not share with the next generation their knowledge. People were pretty freaked out in 2000. I agree that 2000 and 2012 are two different things. But I also agree that people are over reacting on 2012 as they were in 2000. 2012 is a date on the calendar that most of us will face. All I have to say is people do your homework and decide for yourself what you believe.

Ya'll are making such a big deal that this will be just like the y2k incident. It is nothing like this at all y2k was not going to be the end of the world just the end of electronics. This has to do with our magnetic field. When planets align our solar system won't be able to handle it. You people say we can't just die a meteor could wipe us out at any time. There was a time about a year ago where we had a thirty something percent chance this meteor wouldn't hit the right spot in our atmosphere and it would hit California and wipe us out. Let's worry about that before 2012. Space doesn't care bout our tiny planet in this infinite universe we are a grain of sand and our lives don't matter. According to the prophesies, the world is to end in earthquakes. There is to be also a lot of human error, as it was in the last ages. The only difference is, we will figure this out before happening, unlike the previous people-species who inhabited the prior worlds. As far as being made out of corn is concerned, we are what we eat. Let's just hope we don't end up flat as a corn tortilla, flipped on a scorching grill. Earthquakes have been on the increase within the last few years, especially ones in populated areas, causing immense devastation. Floods too have increased. Economically, we are a disaster already happened and waiting to happen. Socially, many are all caught up in cyber affairs instead of real ones, and also caught up in texting, tweeting and non face to face communications. World wise, we are engaging in way too many conflicts and wars. Nashville went down, New Orleans, Galveston, and now the worst oil spill in memory! Hopefully, hurricane season will not bring more disaster? We also have a possibility of more volcanoes spouting off, like Katla in Iceland.

Want some cool coincidences? Well I'll give you one. Oh not only one but three coincidences regarding the Mayan prediction of the end of the world. The Solar Halo, May 5 2009. (7/5) 7+5=12. The heavenly phenomenon where the moon and the planet Venus seem to be a one eyed smiling monster, May 16. (7/16)7+16=21, 12 and 21, December 21 right? Now lets see 2012 20+12=32. And now look at what will happen on June 26 (6/26) 6+26=32.

If Mayans have predicted it to be in 2012 then it may be true. But if we look into history there was a 3000 years leap in it from 7000 B.C. there was a direct jump to 10000 B.C. We don't have any record of it. People say there was a calender change. So are we omitting that or is it counted in Mayan prediction?

The Mayan calendar is going to end in 2012. OK, that does not mean the world is going to end. If you ask me, these rumors of the world ending in 2012 is garbage and a hoax. 2000 already passed, and did the world end, no. 06/06/06 already happened, did we die, no. I'm not saying I don't believe in God, I do believe in him. The Mayans never said the world will end. It is just the end of their calendar, and the last solar eclipse, that is it. If you believe in God and the Bible, you will not believe in these lies and rumors. The world is not going to end in 2012.

Ok first it was 2000 now 2012. Seriously this is just a trick to get people to believe things that some sort of "Scientist" came up with and to get everybody to panic. Get a clue people! This theory has been haunting our minds forever don't you think it's time to live your life to the fullest and not be caught up in some story or fantasy that the world is gonna end? So what if the world is to end on a certain day, year, or month? Everything will eventually take it's natural course and happen for a reason. So for right now cut it out. This all is scaring me. I've had nightmares after nightmares about the world coming to an end. Me being a Catholic means I should believe in god and when time comes he will save me from time of pain and suffering. But how do I know if this is true? But if 2012 does end mankind I want all my family to gather together and pray before our death.

Whether or not the universe is infinite or finite in all directions doesn't matter, relative to our small minds it is infinite in all directions. There have been five major mass extinctions on the planet in the earth's history, the largest one happened about 251 million years ago called the Permian mass extinction when over 90% of all species on land and in water disappeared. The event has been attributed to vulcanism and asteroid activity. It took over 100 million years after that for life to re diversify and arrive into the age of the dinosaurs. The last major mass extinction event was about 65 million years ago that wiped out about 50% of living species including the dinosaurs and this event has also been attributed to asteroids and vulcanism. We are now in the midst of the 6th major mass extinction event that may be faster and greater than all those mass extinction events that have preceded it and it is being caused by human activity. 12-21-2012 may usher in events that manifest to the masses great changes that will make human, animal, and plant survival more tenuous and less certain.

Oh everyone is so gullible, just like people who say they see the Virgin Mary. I'm a man who believes in God, but there's always one area that people overlook even to this day is that God other then sending his son Jesus to us, has never, and I mean never in history sent anyone to talk in his place. The Mayan calendar, all that happened was they were destroyed before they had a chance to complete their calendar. That's like saying oh the world is gonna end every December 31st because our calendar ended. Guess what they didn't get that chance. Also, it was a known fact that they were heavily into cult things, believing in multiple gods, doing sacrifices, and guess what, demons can make people see things in the future too, but that doesn't mean its going to be true now is it. Like I said about the Virgin Mary. The only thing people are seeing is a demon shape shifting to portray that to fool the people and to deceive them, and it works because people are so crazy they'll believe anything without even thinking of what it is really. Nothing is going to happen in 2012. The only thing that could cause a little havoc is the sun and you better wear some sunscreen because of the solar flares, which may or may not disrupt some communication equipment like phones and what not. They are already making plenty of back up systems in the event that does occur, so I can't wait for December 21st to come and nothing to happen. The bible states when things will end, actually not end just all the evil will be wiped from this planet and we will usher in true peace.

I don't believe the world will end in 2012, anyway not for all of us. We will probably go through some massive changes that many of us may be able to withstand. Like in any system, there are periodic "maintenance periods" where herds need to be thinned out for the good of the overall species. WWII and WWI with all their horrible weapons were only capable of killing 50 million and 25 million respectively, a very small percent of the total global population. In the Bible Christ says that there are two in the field and one is taken. In order for us to suffer the loss of fifty percent of the Global population, before he directly intervenes and saves all human flesh, some powerful forces must be capable of that kind of destruction. Nuclear war followed by sterilization of soil by radiation would render the earth inert and incapable of growing food. This might do it. Global warming with the loss of fresh drinkable water could also do it, although this could take some time. I think that maybe one could trigger the other. Nostradamus was able to see a little past the year 3700. The Bible calls it a time and half a time. If we haven't figured out how to travel to other worlds and begin colonization in the next 1700 years, then I do believe our goose will be cooked.

I think every so many years around 64,000 years the earth goes through a transformation like being born all over again time does not move we move through time. I think the poles will reverse themselves and everything will change. Life will always be in one form or another sometimes you just have to start over and the earth has been doing so for millions of years. This isn't the first time were the earth refresh itself the earth is always change non stop we just cant see it on a day to day basis. But we can see the difference in 10,000 years. First the earth was born and the kinds of life that was there nobody knows about. Next the earth transformed to a new world like the world full of dinosaur for some time. Then the world went through a new change and then came the ice age after that. The earth came to be as we now know it. Now its time for the next stage in earth growth. If the earth didn't grow and change it would die. The earth is growing and changing constantly. Besides if the earth didn't transform we would destroy it our selves. The world is not going to end in the year 2012. The earth will just transform it's self and the way thing are will not be the same. It's time for a change earth is the only home we have and we are killing her and killing each other. God promised us a better world and since God works with law and order of the cosmos this just might be the time for God to make do with his promise. I really world like to live in a better world where people can live together and no greedy corrupted government would control us. It's time for a change in this world if men can't fix it then God will.

Is this the same stuff that happened with y2k everyone was going crazy over that? I think if nothing happens in 2012 on Dec 21st then we should take a stand with them not making movies or anything about the world ending?

Hello, I've studied world history and sociology for the last 6 years earning my BS and MS. Both academia has provided a lot of insight into the psyche of society as it relates to world history and its' events. One topic that has intrigued me and prompted my limited but objective research is the Mayan culture. Like the Mayan culture, there are other cultures who exhibit a great understanding of their "then" world as they knew it, assigning reason as to why things happen based upon the winds, the stars or how a ball passes through hoop. I feel that the reason why so many people are on edge about 2012 is due to sensationalism, quite frankly just as other cultures predicted the end of times, this too will come to pass. It's only exacerbated by the fact that we have a firm date by the Mayan's (2012) and that date is near, thus making it more appreciative in temporal respects. Did anyone really think or concern themselves with this date 15-20 years ago, No, its only due to several things, the date is near, the world is small, meaning with the advent of technology, i.e. web, satellite communication, face book, cell phones, etc, the world seems much smaller similar to knowing everyone in your small hometown, make sense? Or of course the downside to this is the mass spread of media good and bad. It can be used to spread falsehood or direct societies into undermining their own governments, social engineering! Additionally, this same media coupled with our current culture of "I want it all, and I want it now," makes for good movies which equates to profit. Enough of my sociology. The Mayan culture never stated whats to occur on 12-21-2012 that is a fact, and we'll never know because most of their writings were destroyed. What we do know is that yes, it's the end of the long count calendar, much the same as our Dec 31 23:59:59 every year. Also, what occurs every year at the solstice, the sun hangs high for a bit and then passes, this happens every year and no one cares to think about it. Furthermore, the rotation of the earth can't change and there's never been an explanation as to how that would occur. It has never happened and likely never will. As far a solar activity, yes we're due 2013 according to scientists (called solar maximum, which occurs every 11 years or so), but that's not likely to cause cataclysmic events, much more likely is mass disruption of communications or power grids, nothing we haven't experienced before. So while I'm not a hard science guy, I can do my own research and come to conclusions based on information that I can readily see as objective. Again, the Mayan never predicted the end of the world, only an end to a certain time or date. Hey and if it makes for an enlightened period and is cause for society to change for the better, then maybe, just maybe that's what the Mayans were attempting to do all along, provide a mechanism for societal change. Looking at facts, looking at life as we know it, we as humans have evolved into beautiful intelligent beings who know forward is the way forward and only to embrace the past and do better in life. I love my life. I have a great family and have been brought up right to care for others before myself when needed! But I feel pain and suffering when I look out and see man kind at work destroying what we have, whilst we have it. We are destroying mother earth as we live life to our full, for example simply driving our motors to work. It's a simple way of life but if one car sets carbon monoxides to a high level what is a 1000 cars in my area alone doing to the environment? My theory to life is to enjoy life as we know it, and to become better beings, to see and hear new things, forget about the worlds end or a new start. We need to just believe in what we have, and if that means waking up next to my other half knowing I have to go to work I should do it with a smile, and look at my child and feel great knowing I can teach him things that I could never do as a person, but now as a family! Also when you walk outside, when it is sunny, cloudy, rainy or miserable, just look up and see how great our earth is and be apart of Earth's creations. I believe there will be help coming and there will be something in our world's path due to come, but don't worry, because what happens-happens, and it happens for a reason. Either follow and enjoy with hope of choice, or go another way again using choices, only you can make a choice. I realize that there really are some kind and wonderful people out there, but facts are facts the human race does not deserve the right to live on this planet. I mean it has always being pain, look at the medieval times, and the stone age, was exactly the same and even now the present day has who owns what and power control. We don't deserve the right of say anymore unless it is change and we develop the power to work together to fix lives and our planet as we know it. If nothing is nothing,then there is nothing to worry about.
