Since 1983, the Louisiana Institute of Massage Therapy has been providing quality massage therapy education. Our Executive Director, Susan Salvo, is the author of two best-selling massage therapy textbooks: Massage Therapy: Principles and Practice (used by over one third of the massage schools from coast to coast) and Mosby's Pathology for Massage Therapists. Ms. Salvo is also the recipient of several prestigious awards – including Small Business Person of the Year. She has over 25 years experience as a massage therapist, business owner, and instructor. Ms. Salvo has a degree in education and is currently working on her master’s degree in educational technology.
Our 500 hour program provides students with the basic anatomy, physiology, pathology, and hands-on massage instruction needed to pass their state and national exams. We also have one of the best hydrotherapy programs on the Gulf Coast .
The classroom experience at our school combines traditional hands-on coaching by experienced therapists with state of the art digital technology. The anatomical science classes are all powerpoint driven lectures supported by digital projection and networked computers. Assignments outside of class are supported by email correspondence, website downloads, supplemental textbook dvds, and internet resources.
We offer two convenient and flexible schedules. The first is a weekend class that meets every other weekend for 11 months. This class allows students to commute in from out of town for the weekend. It has been so popular that we now have graduates from as far away as Houston, Beaumont, Port Arthur, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Alexandria, Shreveport, Bossier City, Leesville, and Monroe. The other option is a day class that meets Monday through Thursday and completes in only 7 months. The day class meets from 9am to 2pm and is very popular with students who have families. This schedule allows a parent to drop their children at school, attend class, then pick the kids up after school.
Our tuition rates are less than half that of the nearest competition and financial aid plans are available. We accept transfers of hours from other massage schools and can help you finish up an education that The school is easily accessible from interstate 210.
