Relationships - Predicting New Relationships

Question: Dear Elizabeth, I have an Astrology question if you don't mind answering it. It's hard to find information on the Internet on in any books that I have come across, regarding my question. How do astrologers predict a new relationship or when someone may get married? Is there any particular way to predict, that you have found through your own experience with your clients to be highly accurate? I have heard that when a couple gets married one person's progressed moon is often in the same degree as the other person's natal sun. Have you seen this often?

Answer: Greetings. This is a great question as it is a topic my clients are often interested in. When will I meet someone? When will I get married? Will the relationship I am in now develop into a committed one?

Yes, there are several things to look for as to when someone will either be entering a new (significant) relationship and/or when they will marry.

First, it is important to understand that in a horoscope, there are two different areas, called houses, which rule these areas of our life. The fifth house rules dating and causal relationships, whereas the seventh house rules committed relationships, such as marriage. It is not uncommon to see a certain type of activity taking place Astrologically that involves the fifth house and at that time, a person may meet and start dating someone. However, it then doesn't develop into a committed/married relationship because there wasn't enough emphasis on the seventh house. Both are required for a dating relationship to turn into a long-term committed one.

While there are many things to look at in regards to using Astrology to "predict" such events, the one I will mention in this answer involves using the house rulers of the 5th and 7th. This is a technique that has been used for a long time*. What it involves is that you look at the sign on the house cusp that rules the areas in question, find the ruler, and see how that ruling planet is being aspected by transiting Jupiter and/or Saturn. I realize this is a mouthful. Let's look at it more closely.

Let's say you have a Capricorn rising. In most charts (there are some exceptions), that would put the sign of Taurus on the 5th house cusp. The ruling planet of Taurus is Venus. You would then find Venus in your natal chart and see what aspects are being made to it from either transiting Jupiter or Saturn, as these two planets often bring something into our lives. So if you have Venus at, say, 15 degrees of Gemini, then you would look for aspects to that from either transiting Jupiter or Saturn. In fact, later this summer, Jupiter will be making an aspect (a trine) to that degree of Venus from Libra. This would be an indication that a relationship may be entering your life at that time.

To see if that relationship will develop into a more committed one, you would look to the ruler of the 7th house, in this case Cancer is on the 7th cusp and the Moon rules Cancer. Therefore, you would look to see if sometime fairly soon your Moon will be aspected by either transiting Jupiter or Saturn. If so, then it is likely that the relationship started in summer would have a better chance of developing into marriage.

Now, there are other things to consider here, such as what other aspects are occurring. What is the nature of your natal horoscope in regards to relationship? Are you inclined towards a more solitary life? Are you compelled to fulfill some destiny that relationship may interfere with? It is important to realize that no transit can "force" you to become what your natal horoscope does not suggest or incline you towards.

As to the progressed moon question, yes, I have seen amazing things with this. It does not only seem to occur when two people get married, but also when they actually meet. This is a big subject, far too involved to explore here, but I will say this: It is not uncommon for a very fiery, compelling relationship to begin under such a progression only to fall apart once it passes! Hence, there would need to be other things going on Astrologically to keep it moving along to the next phase(s).

I hope this helps you. Again, I realize these are big concepts to grasp. I think it's great that you are asking!

In Light,

Elizabeth Jones
