Key Astrology Aspects for December 2006: Life Review, Focus, Open Mindedness, and Looking Within

The Astrological events listed below will affect us all, regardless of your sign.

"Intelligence highly awakened is intuition, which is the only true guide in life."

December 4th is a Full Moon in Gemini at 4:25 pm PST, 5:25 pm MST, 6:25 pm CST and 7:25 pm EST. This Full Moon emphasizes the mental, philosophical, and intellectual aspects of our life. During this time you may find that you are given or come across important pieces of information that are answers to things you are currently working on or dealing with. This information can come from a myriad of sources, such as the media, books, the Internet or your own higher mind. Also, pay close attention to your conversations, for these may well be the source of significant insights that play an important role in the days and weeks to come. The key is that your mind is more open and receptive now, so tune into this energy, be sure to refrain from judgement or any final analysis for the time being.

December 5th Saturn stations retrograde at 25°04' in Leo until 4/19/07. During the time that Saturn is retrograde we find ourselves doing some sort of reevaluation regarding the direction our life is heading. During this time, you may find that as you go through this process, it will be of great benefit to do some form of the following:

  • review your current approach or strategies from the position of what they have produced for you to date. This may encompass any area of your life (primarily determined by what house in your chart this is occurring in), which could include work, health, relationships, finances, etc.
  • look at the past and things that have worked for you before, as perhaps it is time to reintroduce something into your current situation that you gained prior benefit from.
  • reevaluating your commitments may well be in order now, especially any that are up for renewal during this four months.
  • an honest look at your habits and daily practices is in order now. In fact, it is a great time to establish new, healthier regimes. Especially those that create more rhythm in your life.

During the week or so that Saturn stations retrograde, it can feel as though things are standing still. Practicing stillness and mindfulness will help to place you right in the current of this influence in a positive way. In general, great things to keep in mind for now are patience and staying focused on the task at hand.

December 5th Mars enters Sagittarius until 1/16/07. While Mars is in Sag (once every two years) we are drawn to take action in some area of our life. It is quite an interesting combo that at the same time Mars is entering Sagittarius, Saturn is stationing retrograde (read above). These are somewhat opposing energies, so how do you handle it? For one, spending some time outside would be good. Go for a walk in the woods or near nature, chop wood, put up your lights (if you do such a thing, or engage in any focused and goal-oriented activity. If you try to accomplish too much at once, you may find that in the frenzy of activity, you ended up getting nothing done.

However, as the days go on, it is very likely that you will get into a rhythm with these energies and find you have some extra physical energy to get things done. Mars here can increase the amount of activity taking place in your life. You may do some unexpected travel or get fired up about something that excites you or sign up for some new course on impulse. Again, the key to using this fiery influence to your advantage is to stay focused and not go off on tangents.

December 7th Mercury enters Sagittarius until 12/27 (9:52 pm PST). While Mercury is here our minds open to things that can be inspiring and most interesting. Our thoughts move towards those things that are of an expansive and more optimistic nature. And since Mercury was in Scorpio for such a long time this year (because it went retrograde there) you may really notice and enjoy this influence since it is lighter and less intense.

And what is of great intrigue now is that once Mercury enters Sagittarius (9:52 pm PST), there will be SIX planets in Sagittarius until late on the 10th. This is most rare and quite potent. Truth, honesty, morals, justice, travel, higher education and knowledge are all themes now. I would suggest that you re-read Sagittarius MTT now to gain a clearer sense of how Sagittarius impacts us all and what areas of life this sign rules. Further, knowing where (which house) Sagittarius falls in your chart will give you a better sense of what area of your life will be most impacted by this event. Overall, this will be a most expansive and interesting time! (See 12/11 below for a "warning" of sorts!).

December 10th Venus enters Capricorn until 1/3/07 (late in the day PST). Venus in Capricorn is a very grounding energy, helping us to keep more focused on the task before us. This will be most helpful, given the excitement of the last few days! During the time that Venus is in Capricorn, you may find you are feeling more frugal and conservative, not wanting to over-spend or over-indulge. And since Venus is the planet of love and what we really care about, you may be inclined to be somewhat more reserved in this area of your life. That said, you may also find that you are feeling a deep sense of appreciation and gratefulness for the relationships and friendships in your life that are supportive and genuine. Showing that appreciation would be good now. Your finances and budget may well get your attention now. This will be especially true towards the end of the month, once the Sun and Mercury enter Capricorn. More on that later!

December 11th Mars conjunct Jupiter at 3°52' Sagittarius. This is a most energetic aspect that could activate the areas of sports, travel, speculation, world trade and education. Personally, you may feel energized, with a return of optimism in some area of your life. However, something to watch out for here is to not engage in conversations that will likely result in conflicts or disagreements, as it will only be too easy for them to accelerate into a major confrontation. Nationally and globally, there may be unusual news in the areas of sports (upsets or conflicts wrt to games or important trades?) and finances, and, unfortunately, war. This can be an explosive energy where people or groups are feeling very strong, perhaps defending their position and opinions-especially those of a religious or moral nature. This may result in violence or disorder of some kind. These influences will last several days, with the most intense being the 9th through the 11th.

December 20th is a New Moon in Sagittarius at 6:01 am PST, 7:01 am MST, 8:01 am CST and 9:01 am EST. This New Moon is occurring late in Sagittarius, just two days prior to the Winter Solstice, (which is when the Sun moves into Capricorn). Thus, I feel it will be somewhat of a more "serious" tone than other New Moons in Sag (they occur annually). Taking an honest look at your beliefs and how you apply them may be a theme now, as sometimes it is important to pierce our own illusions to see the Truth we live by (this NM is also very close to Pluto, the planet that always asks us to look deeper). A key to really accessing this potent energy for your good is to gain a higher perspective as well. Meaning, if you can be at least somewhat neutral as you view your life, you can gain the insights needed to move you forward in a positive and constructive way.

"It is easy to understand God as long as you don't try to explain Him."
-- Joseph Joubert

Do avoid being dogmatic and closed off to new ideas and another's point of view. One more thing-if you are someone who takes note of when important events occur in your life, this NM relates in a most interesting way to the Pluto station of late March/early April. Something that is begun now, or in the next several days, may take an interesting turn at that time.

December 21st Mars squares Uranus at 11°14' Sag/ Pis. Whenever Mars and Uranus connect, we can expect sparks to fly in some way. This is a very energizing and dynamic energy, so don't be surprised if things are crazy, or even chaotic, for a couple days (at least). This may well impact Holiday travel, so be sure to allow plenty of time to get to where you are going, and if you are driving SLOW DOWN and be extra cautious. Remember-others are under this influence, too!

It is very likely that some area of your life wants to change, ultimately clearing the way for more aliveness and Light. Yet, in the meantime you may be feeling a little queasy or disoriented. Stay grounded, and don't take on too much. The good news is that this aspect passes through quickly, and then moves on. But it can be like a tornado or summer lightening storm as it does! I will also add that this aspect is a significant catalyst, and therefore can trigger events of major proportion.

December 21st Sun enters Capricorn at 4:23 pm PST until 1/20/07 (Winter Solstice). The Winter Solstice (in the Northern hemisphere) is the shortest day of the year. This is when things slow down and we are drawn to go within to seek warmth and light. However, in our Sun-worshipping culture, for many this time of increased darkness can trigger depression, emptiness and feelings of isolation. The more our society moves away from the natural rhythms of Nature, and the understanding of these, the more prominent these feelings seem to be.

In other times, people saw this as a time to seek the Light within, hence the celebrations of Light that occur at this time of year. The traditions of lighting the menorah, putting up lights for Christmas or even just using more candles, are all ways we are seeking this Light. It is important during this time to stand still and to turn our vision inward. Doing this even for a few minutes each day will point to the source of all Light in our life, as well as accept this stage of Nature, considered in ancient cultures to be most sacred.

To consent to and engage in this most natural cycle of darkness and quiet, rather than resist or ignore it, will open you to the peace and calm that is truly available at this time. Some ideas as to how to do this are:

  • give thanks daily for the protection and guidance you received this past year, and to humbly ask for this in the coming year.
  • focus on one quality you'd like to enhance each day, such as patience, kindness, tolerance, simplicity, stillness, gentleness or love. Write the word down and put it in several places so as to remind you of it throughout the day. You could also visualize the word in front of you, then breathe it in for a few moments.
  • say a prayer daily, surrounding them in light, those you love. Also, add those who are less fortunate than you, or anyone you know to be going through a difficult time.
  • spend some time each day, even a few moments, seeking your own inner guidance and wisdom.

"It is in the silence of the mind that the strongest and freest action can come."
--Sri Aurobindo

December 27th Mercury enters Capricorn until 1/15/07. During the time that Mercury is in Capricorn our thoughts become focused on more serious things, such as what makes us more secure, our future goals and the direction and purpose of our life. As we enter the New Year, these are often topics many find themselves considering. On a more mundane level, you may find yourself thinking about your finances, budgets, projects or commercial ventures, especially in the New Year. As these topics may find their way into your conversations or thoughts, it is important now to be sensible and logical and use common sense. Discipline and habit are important keys now.

"You have in your composition a mighty genius for expression which has escaped discipline."
--HG Wells
