To be honest it scares me thinking about the world ending in 2012. I want to know apart from the fact that the Mayan’s did not write the calendar past 2012, what other prophecies are there?

Marie, do you mean the western’s interpretation of the the Mayan’s. I don’t think the Mayan’s have ever predicted that the world was ending. Just the calendar is ending, and a new calendar is beginning.

Like so much else regarding the peoples of the Americas, western commentators name things according to their own prejudices. The Mayan Calendar is far more than a way to keep track of what day it is, though it does that with an impressive degree of accuracy. The "calendar" is an integral part of a greater world view that sees the universe as a dynamic system based on intertwining cycles. The world is not scheduled to end on December 12, 2012 but several great cycles reset around that time marking a potential for tremendous changes. Of course there's always the possibility that mankind will do something colossally stupid or continue accelerating our assault on the natural world and our own self destruction. The calendar, along with the Mayan creation myth (another misused word) saw the dramatic potential of this age and saw that it's up to the human race to choose destruction or evolution. Point #1 is a fact, but doesn’t have anything to do with the Bible being accurate or “divinely” inspired. All kinds of fiction sell very well.

Point #’s 2-7 are based on the Bible, which includes some history and much myth. That’s circular reference, not a statement of “truth.” Do you believe in Zeus, Thor, and Poseidon, too.

The Bible just may be the greatest STORY ever told, with emphasis on STORY.

1) The Bible has sold more books in the world than any other and has more translations in every language around the world. There are now CD’s, MP3’s and DVD’s of the BIBLE and you can also find many parts of the BIBLE converted to movies.

2) If man tries to understand God’s Word without fighting about it comes wisdom and truth. God does not LIE that is what makes GOD…GOD. It is how man interprets GOD that causes problems.

3) Seek God and you will find Peace.

4) The Bible has no contradictions if you study it deep enough and research the various translations and go to the actual locations you will find truth and facts.

5) As for the End of the World “GOD’s Son only knows” the time and hour and day. But before that happens we will see His rule for 1,000 years. That has not happened yet.

6) Even if you did know the time and hour and day of the END…you wouldn’t be able to stop it anyway.

7) Live each day as if it were your last and ENJOY LIFE TO THE FULLEST. Be like God’s “angels” **LOVE without regard to self interests**. Else you will end-up like the fallen angels…always in wanting and never satisfied and damned forever.

What the Mayans meant by the calendar, or even when the calendar was said to have begun, makes for good speculation. But we should not forget that the Mayans also practiced human sacrifice and apparently had various interpretations of calendar events themselves. Even if some believed that the world would end, as opposed to the calendar flipping into a new cycle, what makes their interpretation reliable?

So what theory am I to believe? There does not seem much astronomical evidence for Planet X, which was first slated to destroy the world in 2003. Nostradamus stated that his prophecies were valid through 3797. Some astrologers refer to a galactic alignment that will not take place until the 23rd century. And others thought that the Second Coming of Christ would take place in 1989.

I suppose that if planetary destruction or chaos come, there is little I can do about it. If Planet X (Nibiru) makes an appearance, I will look at it in the sky. And if a world leader wants me to put his mark on my forehead or hand, I intend to refuse. And if there is a new paradigm shift and sacred sites are revealed, then certainly I will be interested in what might be shown. But other than that, it leaves me trying to “walk right,” do justice, live in peace, respect the environment, and impart these values to my children. Perhaps on the morning of December 22, 2012, I will hike up to a nearby ridge and enjoy the view and take in the wonder around me. Or perhaps not.

I think if the world is going to end then God has a new plan for the earth. He can step in from the blink of an eye. But for now its just a myth we’ll have to wait and see. But there were lots of other times when the world was supposed to end. But God will have a plan for you.

The Bible contradicts its self constantly. I am a christian, but I don’t agree with everything it says. I don’t think we are supposed to know when the world is going to end.

Everyday I look at the clock at exactly 9:11, no matter what. I have no clue why. My birthday is December 21st, 1991. And by everyday I mean everyday. It is just something to think about. Maybe this is just a cool coincidence.

I feel that biswadeep is right and we will just see a new myth develop after this date has past or they will say that the date was incorrectly figured or something. Man seems to need myths and storytelling and there has been a great many of them throughout time. I guess we will find out soon enough.

There is no end after 2012 as believed by the Mayan calendar. If it really ends the symptoms would definitely seems to increase now and onwards. These ideas simply create sensation nothing else. After Dec 2012, we will see a new myth developed to make a sensation.

If the world is supposedly ending on December 21, 2012, why would it matter to us what happens after that date?
