The Book of Stones: Who They Are and What They Teach by Robert Simmons and Naisha Ahsian

The metaphysical reference book, The Book of Stones: Who They Are and What They Teach, published by North Atlantic Books and Heaven & Earth Publishing is very appropriately named.

This rich and comprehensive gemstone reference book goes into great detail explaining the metaphysical properties of over 350 crystals, minerals, and gemstones.

You are given examples of how any person with an interest in stone properties or healing practitioner might use gems and stones combined with intention to address physical, soul, and spiritual issues.

Robert Simmons writes an exquisite first chapter titled: Why Stones Work. He offers a very persuasive theory on how it is possible for stones to heal and affect us in positive ways. Simmons explains how solid matter is made up of atomic particles that are arranged in some type of definite organized crystalline structure. This also includes the human body. Therefore, we are not all that different on this level, which may make interaction between the two possible.

You will find both authors, Simmons and Ahsian, achieve their mission to provide a metaphysical reference for the wide array of the crystals, gemstones and minerals described in this “big” reference book. They offer deeper explanations that most books on gemstones and crystals while also encouraging readers to listen to their intuition when working with gems, minerals, and crystals.

Golden GemstoneI followed one of their suggestions and intuitively opened the book to a seemingly random stone while having an issue in mind, and then I read their descriptions. My intention was to gain insight on enhancing my practice in Matrix Energetics (a type of consciousness technology which promotes change and transformation.)

The page I landed on described the mineral Kyantite. I found I was definitely drawn to the image of this rich looking stone. Listed first, I read a description of related Keywords, the Element, and related Chakras, followed by Robert’s interpretation and then Naishas.

As I scanned the page I landed on these words: Kyanite can take one back to past lives and forward to probable futures. It teaches one to experience interdimensional consciousness without losing one’s connection to Earth. Then after reading both author’s descriptions I continued to the last section about this beautiful stone. There I noted the Spiritual, Emotional, and Physical insights the authors shared along with a specific Affirmation. Seemed really spot on.

Another suggestion was to glance at the images until I felt drawn to a stone. I stopped on Papagoite, a copper based mineral. Again, Simmon’s description offered many great insights of which I connected to after experiencing a very physically active day. A perfect choice!

Next I read Ahsian’s description. She referenced a connection with past lives. I felt I was being given information that was useful for reflection. Perhaps I was experiencing a pattern that I may have acquired in another life. I had to smile.

With over 350 descriptions of gemstones, crystals and minerals The Big Book of Stones is worth every penny and would be a great choice to have among any gemstone enthusiasts library. I really appreciated the encouragement to use the book in creative ways, along with benefiting from the author’s descriptions, or the guidance to follow one’s own intuition.

Book Cover of The Book of StonesThe final pages of the book include a reference of stone properties and their physical and spiritual correspondence. Quite helpful content to complete the book while offering support to learn how to work with nature’s treasures.

If you love stones and enjoy collecting these gems this wonderful reference book will support you in deepening your relationship with the stones you already have along with helping you choose new ones to add to your collection.

If you are a healing practitioner you will find The Big Book of Stones a quality reference book to add another dimension to your tool kit. I highly recommend this book because anyone who purchases a copy will put it to good use while enjoying the wealth of information.

  1. I first ran in to a copy of the Book of Stones at a gem and crystal show in Florida. It is by far the BEST book on crystals and their metaphysical properties that I have ever found. We got rid of all our other crystal books after getting this one. As far as one reader counts, I give it a double thumbs up!

    Namaste,

Thanks Tanja, I too am so glad we have this book! I love opening it randomly to a page to see what gemstone wisdom I receive for the day! And when I go shopping for crystals and gemstones I can learn about which one I am drawn to that day and why. The Book of Stones is awesome.
